A great park that has views of trees and forest ocean and ships historic forts and guns and very large cranes. One of the nicest urban parks you will find anywhere. Point Pleasant is almost 200 acres but feels much larger because there is so much to see and do. Some trials follow the water where you can watch the ships or get gorgeous views of the ocean in every direction. Other paths wind into the forest by fir trees and a menagerie of plants, eventually up to the strange looking Prince of Wales Tower at the summit. Side trails go off in many different directions and frequently end up at old fortifications that still are scatter around. Canada seems to have a thing a for old cannon. It seems you can't walk for more than a few minutes in any direction without bumping into one. Point Pleasant is no exception; some old big guns are proudly displayed here. At any time of the year you will see people hiking, biking, yaking, skating, skiing or walking their dogs. Many events are held in the park and Shakespearean plays are frequently performed. Most people wouldn't think that Nova Scotia would have to worry about hurricanes but In 1993 the park and area was devastated by Hurricane Juan. The memory of the storm is still strong and people in the city talk about it almost with reverence. Point Pleasant is one of those rare places that can be bustling with people and activity and still remain peaceful and serene. The forest, ocean, history and interesting people doing enjoyable things combine for a wonderful park. Even watching the gigantic cranes silently dance and sway in the shipyard below the park only adds to the fun and atmosphere.

Point Pleasant Park is the kind of urban gem most cities dream of having. Close to downtown Halifax in one of the cities nicest neighbourhoods. It has trails for walking and biking, theatre in the summer courtesy of Shakespeare by the Sea, a beach and old fortresses celebrating the cities military history. If you know where to look there is also some fun hidden graffiti. Random fact: The park is still technically owned by the British Crown and leased by the city for one pound per year. This spot is great for residents and visitors alike. Perfect for a solitary walk or a bike ride or that first date. A must visit spot in Halifax.

I went on a trip to Halifax this summer and I ended in this park after dinner. I was looking for something to do before going to the hotel because it was to early to go back. I Liked this place. It's free to enter, they let dogs in and there's a parking lot. This park has a lot of things to see, has different walking paths, a pabble beach... It's beautiful and peaceful. I spent 1h30 there taking photos and walking around reading historical plaques. Stop by if you're ever nearby!

Truly one of our favorite places to meander. Seriously, all though there's many an athlete that passes us by, we love to leisurely take in the views. Note I said views - as in more than one. forest-lined paths, beach with sand (of course swimming is out of the question, but we can pretend), views of the harbor cranes or out to the mouth of the Atlantic, the little isthmus with sailboats parked...well, I could go on forever. Not sure which parking aspect I like more - down near the port where you can get a closeup view of freighters being loaded and unloaded, not to mention a snack, or the higher border where you can park and pick up a delicious ice cream cone at Point Pleasant Grocery before or after your walk. Either way, it's a delightful way to pass the day.

I am so glad I found this park. I always assumed it was less of a public recreation area and more of a wildlife preserve with walking trails, like pacific spirit park in Vancouver. Turns out it's a beautiful piece of nature on the edge of the city, fully outfitted for use by people. I also loved seeing all the happy dogs frolicking off leash. And there were some interesting war bunker ruins to boot. We'll definitely be coming back when the weather in nicer to take advantage of the large expanse of grass by the sea for a picnic.

I guess one of the great things about Point Pleasant Park is that it's one of the few places you can go in downtown Halifax where you can enjoy Halifax at it's fullest without any noise, crowds, or marketing clutter. Point Pleasant Park is truly beautiful. Of course, it was even more beautiful before Hurricane Juan hit, but it's peacefulness and serenity makes up for any damage that was done. I've jogged many trails at Point Pleasant Park, gone on many leisure walks, and even spent many of my University days there nestled on a benches, reading chapter upon chapter, and text book upon text book. To me, Point Pleasant Park is much more than a park or a walking trail - It's nature, serenity, comfort and memories.... I guess it just goes to show that the best things in life are free.

Just beautiful. Walked along on a spring day. Lots of families and tons of dogs running around - it was like heaven on earth (I love pooches!). Loved the trails and the bunkers to explore. Intend on going back when I have more time !!! Just plain awesome.

Point Pleasant Park is the largest forested park on the Halifax peninsula, and also the park plagued the most in recent years by a number of different misfortunes. First there were a number of trees (and by a number I mean hundreds) that fell during hurricane Juan that ended up closing the park while paths and entrances were cleared. More recently a beetle infestation threatened the trees of the park again. Despite the hardship Point Pleasant remains one of the best places to experience the outdoors when in Halifax. When I have time and the weather permits I take my neighbours dogs to run around and play, there are lots of other dogs around though so it can be tough at times to make sure they don't get a little aggressive. Point Pleasant is a staple in this city, and makes the tasks of exercising and taking care of pets enjoyable, if the unpredictable Nova Scotian weather allows.

Point Pleasant Park back in the day was the place to be in the summer. Remembering that good old days when we used to swim in the water and play in the sand, then the breeze blew through the plentiful trees and the dogs ran freely. Many Sundays the park would be packed with people having picnics and family events with BB Q's. This still does go on but the rules have increased. Walking through the little hidden hide aways it is a great escape anytime. Many hidden treasures are located through the park with alot of history. It is nice to sit on one of the bench's and looking out over the harbour watch the boats. Over the years times have not been so good to PPP with all the trees that have been cut down or not being able to swim in the water. Something needs to be done about this so that we are able to enjoy PPP to the max like the good old days.

After writing my Yelp review.. I just had to go for a bike ride in the park!

You can still see the devastation from Hurricane Juan, but the landscapers are taking very good care of the park.

Asking us if we had a bucket to put it out?! We explained that her employee was bringing water she proceeded to yell about fire wood and then speeded off. We packed up and left. I believe that there are better ways to talk to people without hostility especially in front of children!

"The Ovens" are a series of Sea Caves that branch off the Atlantic Ocean carving some beautiful holes into the cliffs of the land. Located on private property, this location is open from May till October. There is a mandatory admission ($10 for adults) to see this place. At very least, you get to hike the 1.5 kms long trail along the ocean to see the caves. If you are wanting to stay longer, they have a campground (tent, camper and cabin) should you wish to stay in the area. They do have size restrictions, so you'll have to leave you larger trailers or RV's at home. We spend 1-2 hours roaming the trails and taking our time reading the information provided about the history of the property and the area's gold rush past. We created a YouTube video of your experience as well which will really help you get a sense of the location. This is a beautiful area and well worth the trip. Perhaps a little on the expensive side, however, being able to see the caves was really quite amazing. If you come, be prepared for the temperature difference compared to inland - it's a bit cooler being on the ocean (even in the summer). Smack on the Bedford Basin, this is great park for all seasons and ages. For families with kids,…read morethe highlight would be the large playground. It has a rubbery artifical surface which means it doesn't get muddy, and softens trips and falls. The worn-out previous wooden ship playstructure was replaced in Fall 2015. There is a bathroom which is clean, heated and open all year round. As a bonus for those in the diaper way it also has change tables- in both bathrooms. There are lots of benches around the playground so it is easy to sit and keep an eye on the kids. In the Summer, the park is close to cool breezes from the Basin. It is fun to spread out a blanket and watch the ships sailing in and out of Bedford yacht squadron. There is a brick walkway that goes along the waterfront that is great for casual strolls and running. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Narrows. It is kept clear in the Winter so you often see people pushing strollers and older people getting some fresh air.

There is basically nothing blocking your view in the park. Which I'm guessing is a plus when you bring kids to the park to play, a pano view of the surroundings. It's basically a big patch of grass between the ocean and the parking lot. Lots of benches, lots of fantastic views of the basin. It was winter when I stopped in to check this park out, but I think there is a paved path/boardwalk that goes pretty far. It's a great place to walk your dog (on leash) or go for a stroll if you're in Bedford and in the market for that kinda thing.
