This rest area is rather nice. It looks so unassuming on the outside but once inside, we were pleasantly surprised. There is a room made to look like the inside of a cabin with 2 rocking chairs placed by a fireplace. Another room has brochures complete with a cardboard cutout of Dolly Parton. Dolly is placed strategically by the brochures that talk about the area surrounding Dollywood. The restrooms are kept clean. There is an information desk but it wasn't manned when we were there. All in all, a nice respite before getting plunged into the nightmarish interstate traffic in Chattanooga!

Welcome center located in Tennessee not too far outside or Nashville. Me and my buddies was on a trip home from Atlanta to Lousiville and stopped here for a pit stop of emptying the bladder and grabbing snacks. Very large rest stop with all kinds of green space. Inside was well maintained and they had some good options at the vending machines. Our behind the restrooms was a cool piece of public art as well. Overall solid rest stop. Restrooms were decently clean and it served its purpose for us.

We stopped here during the day to use the restroom and stretch our legs on our way from Atlanta to Nashville in late November. Although the place was busy while we were there, there were lots of parking spaces available. Restrooms were clean, as was the inside public areas of the Welcome Center. The Tennessee Welcome Center had lots of free maps and other information about places in Tennessee. We didn't go into the vending machine building, but a bunch of vending machines are housed in a separate building that's next to the Welcome Center. There were grassy areas where families with kids were kicking soccer balls. We arrived, did our business, took a short walk, then left. This stop was everything we needed it to be.

This rest area and welcome center serves both sides of the highway with a loop around and underpass for those who are travelling east into North Carolina. Pretty cool. I spent a few hours here, parked with the doors locked and the windows rolled up and sleeping rather than risking running into a deer or something before continuing onwards once the Sun came up. There are occasional security patrols and I was not disturbed. The parking lot for cars has some very good shade and there is a very large parking area for trucks. They have even set up a dog play area. [Review 16332 overall - 275 in Tennessee - 1839 of 2021.]

I stopped here to use the restroom. It has a beautiful lookout area, but there were some sketchy people and I felt really unsafe. Bathrooms could use some upgrading. Some of the doors didn't have locks.

Really nice welcoming center. It is located not too far out from Nashville. It is very large and offers many snacks, restrooms and other items. I wish all rest stops would be taken care of this nicely and have such opportunities for picnics and things

This is a well laid out area with a stunning lake view. The staff is friendly and it is a convenient spot to stretch a bit and escape the rigors of the road.

We stopped just for the views! Having never been to this part of Tennessee I was shocked about how gorgeous it is here!

Smell, there is something wrong with the septic set up for the floating cabins. We camp and have used campers with septic tanks that have to be emptied but the whole cabin smells of horrible septic gas... we even used air freshener with no help. 2. No real heat, I get that we visited off season but one small space heater does not heat a cabin of this size. There is a central heat system that does not work. We went to Lowe's and purchased additional heater and the place got comfortable. It could have been helpful if the heat wasn't set to off, even though we requested a late check in and pre paid the staff could have at least turned the heaters on being in was in the low 30's. Also the window air conditioning units let in a large amount of cold air. 3. Off season, no on-site restaurant, no available delivery and no bait in the store. The toaster oven in the cabin was barley operational and was missing the power button. All items that could be added to their website to help off season guests be prepared. 4. Their cancellation and early checkout policy. Guest beware they will not refund you even if their equipment is not operational. This is not a fair business practice to me, since it's apparent they are not big on maintenance of the units. 5. Not a clear path to floating cabins. Gas pump with a door that is open and flapping in the wind makes it hard to get pass during windy weather.

When we finally got out on the lake, that boat kept shutting off and the oil light kept coming on. We ended up stuck floating in the middle of the lake because the boat wouldn't start. When we called, they basically brushed it off and said the oil light "always stays on." That's not exactly reassuring when you're stranded on the water. The boat kept dying until they finally brought us another one. That boat as well would only go a few miles per hour and would beep loudly after driving for more than 15 minutes at a time -- making us have to stop to take a break. All of this took up a huge chunk of the time we paid , and even though we were told **repeatedly** they'd "make it right," we got absolutely nothing for the inconvenience. No extra time, no refund, no discount. What really made me mad was trying to contact management afterward. We called multiple days in a row and nobody would even talk to me. Problems happen sometimes, but renting out TWO bad boats and then refusing to deal with customers afterward is just bad business. Zero stars.

I'm really glad that we took the time to spend a few hours and even spend the night here. This is a really beautiful lake to be able to have a very calm and relaxing time. There are a lot of folks doing night fishing but they do a pretty good job of not shining their lights into the camping area where the tent campers are at. We camped with our tent about 15 ft from the river and it was lovely. The day we arrived was a little bit tricky because we stopped and inquired about camping and we were told if there was not a tent, then the spot was available and to pitch our tent come back and tell him the site #, pay the fee. We did that. But when we got back he said "oh except for that spot". So then we had to move our tent over one spot, however nobody showed up in the spot that we were at that night or the next day so not sure what happened there. But when it was all said and done we had a nice little corner all to ourselves. This is definitely a place that is very convenient to get to off of interstate 24 and if you are on a road trip I would definitely recommend stopping and paying $15 to park there for the night. They also have on the other side of the island an area for RV parking. $30 rate per night, however you can rent an RV spot for a month for $500 and it includes water electric and there is a dump station. Oh! And there is a bathhouse. There is 2 men's rooms with toilet sink and shower, and there is 2 women's rooms with toilet sink and shower. The use of these facilities is included in the camping rate. If you were just here for a day trip there is a really nice boat ramp as well as on the other side there is a park area that is available for use during the day and there are picnic tables and a swimming area that looks really nice. We launched our kayak off of our campsite and went around the lake over to the Tennessee River. When you get to the Tennessee River if you take a left (SW), there is a beautiful cliff face that has birds singing very loudly and it's just stunning. If instead, you go to the right, there is another large area with a big lake and if you look forward and a little to your left (SE) you might see a train going by in the distance.

The park itself is very nice with a huge lake. Do note we decided to get a spot directly on the lake side since there was a ton of open spots. However I would recommend staying away from the spots at the edge of the lake. There are a lot of geese here and apparently they take quite large and nasty poops... the edge of the lake is covered in geese poop... you learn something new everyday. Other than that it's lovely. Only water and electric although there is a dump station.

Overall, the campground was clean, well maintained and the manager was very kind! It definitely is more catered to RVs than tent camping, but it was still not too bad. It is next to the water and has a boat ramp and swimming area. We paid by adult tent ($20) and not by tent site, and they are dog friendly. The manager sells ice and firewood but that's it. There is a a cute little park for kids to play, but the whole place is not very large. Some of the highlighted pros: the kind staff, very clean bathrooms (minus dead bugs, but you're camping so it's to be expected. They also have someone who comes and cleans them often). And capabilities for water activities were a plus! Some of the cons include: the swimming area was very unclean (it seems that we must be in a cove of the water or something because there was a LOT of debris and trash in the water.), the "overflow camping" only has a fire pit and picnic table - so be prepared to bring your own grate (we made that mistake). It didn't have grills, or water taps. Also, there is only 1 bathhouse. It was clean and well maintained, but only 1 shower for each gender, although we didn't have to wait to long if we went early in the morning. And the last major con for me was the price. I think for it being a fairly basic site with limited amenities... it should not be 20 bucks a tent. We had a decent time- so not a bad place to stay if you are in a bind.. not a destination though. It seems that a lot of RVs stay there year round.

We have a small 3 lb. dog who the neighbor was going to watch for us on vacation but because of the storm he was unable to watch. We call KOA and asked if we could add a couple of extra days as we were needing to evacuate as Tampa/Clearwater was going to be a direct hit, they said YES! Asked due to the circumstances could we please bring our dog as we couldn't leave her. Even the Governor is saying don't leave your pets behind. Of course we wouldn't think of it. The person on the phone said. NO. It was against their policy. Because of this we would then need to cancel our reservation. Of course they would cancel but would keep our deposit. WHAT! I said we were not cancelling because we changed our mind, we are having to figure something out because we are having to flee due to the storm. She said that was their policy, no refund of deposit if the cancellation was less than a week. We called Tuesday and our arrival was Friday. Then she went on the say they have storms where there all the time and this is their policy...NO refund. Unbelievable, where is the human compassion? Must say it is not about the money, more about the structure of such an empathic policy. Maybe, I was stressed due to the storm and the unknown feeling of would we even have a home to come back to and my grown children located in Florida too. I was so angry, I found the phone number of Corporate KOA and called as I wanted them to know who truly represents them. The lady who answered was kind, understanding and expressed sympathy. She said she would contact the owner of the KOA Chattanooga West and hope that they would reconsider. She said and did all what you would expect giving this difficult situation. She made me feel like a person again that someone actually care about. Not only what we were going through but the logic to our request and the right thing to do. John called KOA Chattanooga West the next day to see if they would keep his deposit? YEP, they said it was their policy and the pending storm did not make difference and they sent him an email telling him there would be no refund. So if you ask me would I visit there, would I recommend?... The answer is NO as although I am sure it is a beautiful place there personal unkindness has certainly tainted my view. We are thankful that Hurricane Ian spared us in Tampa/Clearwater FL and pray for those who have lost their lives and homes in Ft. Myers. *Note... If you need to cancel please do so according to their policy because they don't give a @#$% about anything but the almighty dollar$. The owners of KOA Chattanooga West should be ashamed!
