Two stars for trying…read more Man, I wanted so badly to love this place. I've read good reviews online for this place and it seems to be a repeated suggestion for authentic Czech food. First off, this place is out in the boonies! It was a serious journey across town. I don't mind an adventure for good food, but it just wasn't good enough to justify the trip when you can find better Czech cuisine in the city. The meat loaf was ok. Simple, same goes with the potatoes and gravy it was paired with. We also had the wild boar with rosehip and potato gnocchi. Man, that dish sounded interesting in theory, but again, simple. It felt like everything I ate was under seasoned. Just not good considering the price point and strange location. The meal ended with the plum dumplings. So much potential, but some unnecessary pairings like the strange oil and nut crumbles. Lastly, service was pretty slow. Such a cute little place and so close to being good, but falling short. I think some simple updates to dishes on the menu would make a huge difference. What a shame!

For breakfast they had such a huge selection and for dinner and lunch they had good stuff. The portions were small though so I didn't like that! I did like that the service was good and that the food all seemed to be of a high quality. But it was super pricy. Even the seemingly cheap stuff, but it is in a really nice hotel so that makes sense. I did really like their breakfast! It was so worth the money!! I just didn't like the eggs. The hostess seemed to wield all the power in the room--no smile, barely any eye contact, just a curt and judgmental "no reservation." The restaurant was far from full. She then added, "I only have a side table for you," as if that were some sort of compromise. We accepted. At first glance, the waiters looked well presented, but with a bit more observation, the illusion faded. Some had sagging pants, untucked shirts, and most concerning, repeatedly inappropriate hand placement while on the floor. It happened more than once, which was uncomfortable and distracting (see photo). Overall, the place feels very pretentious without delivering on substance. The food wasn't anything special, and the desserts were average at best and certainly not worth the hype or the attitude. I wouldn't recommend Cafe Imperial to friends, especially if you're expecting a warm welcome or standout desserts.
