I appreciate the signage to let us know which variety is up that day, and it is a day to day experience. During this year of questioning all produce, we went out of our way to get lettuce at Beth's and it did not disappoint. The staff are helpful, and the lines get long. The variety is on target and I highly recommend this farmer's market for the blueberries, strawberries, and apples.

East Forty Farm and Dairy sells fresh meats and cheeses, the latter under Lakin's Gorges Cheese. We had the privilege of meeting Allison, the cheese maker and owner, and she was incredible. Not only did she tell us all about the cheese and the process, but she also introduced us to her baby cows! It was a lovely experience, and we cannot wait to return for more cheese and try their pork. The cheese itself was delicious. We already ate the Rockweed and it was one of the best cheeses we've had! The middle was briny since Allison adds seaweed to it -- it doesn't get more "Maine" than that. The farm has a self-serve fridge that's cash only but if you ring, Allison will come out and you can pay by card. Lovely spot, lovely people, delicious cheese.

We were fortunate to stay on the farm in one of the rental houses, and it was delightful to enjoy a meal on the porch overlooking the bay. The staff is led by Ben, their general manager, who came to the farm as an intern six years ago, and never left! The variety of produce and eggs raised in the farm, even on the saddle of fall and summer, is amazing. The tomatoes were some of the sweetest I've ever tasted. We took the ferry from Rockland, and the buzz on the ferry was how wonderful the bakery was: the bread and cinnamon rolls were sublime. Friday night dinner was a barn dinner, with many courses based on produce from the farm, supplemented with protein from local purveyors for fish and beef. I would highly recommend the barn dinner and if you are fortunate a stay on the farm in one of their limited rentals.
