If you have been to Atrium, the feel is very similar. From a beer standpoint, Monnik is in the B+ range, which means it is decent. I grabbed a flight and then a couple of samplers of seasonals after dinner. Very innovative and I would highly recommend trying some of the styles outside of the flagship. The peach grisette, a style you don't find often, was on point. Same with the New Year Old Ale and BA Minimator. Needless to say, I had my designated driver after these 11% and 12% brews. It is not a place people would travel across the country for, but the beer is better than most in the area. I usually stop at Atrium, which I would put in the A category, but I love exploring new places. Monnik did not disappoint. For food, we just grabbed a pretzel. My two cents. THe beer cheese is just okay. The Gouda fondue is the bomb. If I could have the spent grain bread or pretzel with just gouda fondue, I could eat this regularly.

There were 2 or 3 performers and they all kept it entertaining throughout the whole night, they even got the audience to sing along to some of the songs. One thing I like about this piano bar is that they had a big screen to show the songs in queue, and I could tell when they didn't know a song too well they looked it up on their tablets before starting. This was a huge plus for me since the last paino bar I went to didn't attempt to learn the songs and just skipped songs even though people paid for them to get played. I'm not 100% sure, but having lived in Silver Lake (LA, CA) for a few years, there definitely was some recognizable symptoms of a hipster neighborhood. There's different sake beverages on the menu as well as a really solid, albeit small selection of whiskey (with more than reasonable prices too!). I ordered one of the individually packaged sakes and it was tasty. I got to look around and talk to the bartender a bit. He mentioned they had karaoke on Thursdays and are open to 4am (holy moly - so used to 2am on the west coast). I really wanted to come back, but was just so spent after dinner. It's a shame I couldn't hang out longer or just experience more of what this bar has to offer, but from what I experienced so far, a really great place!

We loved the experience. It's like a warehouse space which has been converted into a music venue and avant garde art space. Everywhere you look there is some funky feast for the eyes. I was impressed by their right-in-your-face signage at every entrance affirming their acceptance of marginalized demographics. Each door bears a sign stating that racism, homophobia and the like will not be tolerated in the establishment, leaving no room for doubt. I was so impressed and encouraged by that immediate assurance that this place shares our values. It takes bravery to lead with a stance that will likely drive some business away in order to stand on principles and I admire it. There isn't much seating. There is a nice stage with pro sound and lighting. Most of the area in front of the stage is open floor. Some interesting bench style seating on either side of the space and a few tables and chairs in the back. Drinks are not cheap by any means but competitive with other similar venues in the area. No food is served but they did have a popcorn machine going. Service was fair for a large crowd. You have to have an open mind to attend Portal. They were holding a "furry rave" there directly after the concert and at a point the venue began to fill up with young people dressed in some interesting and elaborate costumes of that variety. So you should be prepared to share space with people in alternative lifestyles. I love that this establishment provides a safe space for people that some don't understand or accept. When you think Kentucky, "it bourbon you think of."…read more Without a doubt this establishment is a must go. If you do the bourbon tour it's the first stop. You will learn so much. The climate and culture dating back to the 1800s still runs through the city today. The company that operates Angels Envy is Louisville Distilling Co. The founder was Lincoln Henderson. This gentleman went to college right here in Louisville and after forty plus years of working in a distillery worked his way to the top as master distiller. His own brews are pretty good too. How about Jack Daniel's Gentleman's Jack. That was Mr. Henderson. The building that Angels Envy occupies was occupied prior by American Elevator and Machine and American Saw. Later it existed as Vermont American Complex, then it was abandoned. The site was deteriorated but became the place where in 2010 revival. The Henderson family and Louisville Distilling Co made their permanent presence. They invested in the surrounding area too. They made a massive complex when you visit . Now come and visit today. Learn the basics of how the Henderson family double distills their Angels Envy in a wine cast barrel after aging. Taste the quality of their legacy that will establish and endure the ages. Although the legacy lives on forever in this family and their double mystery their dad left, the story continues. Plan your visit today .

Garden Court is located within the confines of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary…read more Previously owned as a private residence when it was first built in 1906, it has seen several changes over the last century. This 20-room Beaux-Arts style mansion acted as the backdrop for our wedding along with their elaborate gardens. What I can say about Garden Court is that I could not have asked for a prettier place to act as our wedding venue. After initially securing a wedding venue, we opted out of it and this was a random find on Google Maps. It was beyond perfect for me as I am not a rustic or barn type of person. Those types of venues are plentiful. I was not interested in a former antebellum estate either. Garden Court was the perfect medium. It was located in the perfect spot for our already booked hotel that we had committed to along with the rehearsal dinner. When I say Garden Court is within 10 to 15 minutes of literally everything in Louisville, I am REALLY saying it is located within 10 to 15 minutes. One would think that you might have teetotalism at a seminary. Well, you would be incorrect! We had a 4 hour open bar with the music of our choice. It was a blast! We had 70 people attend our wedding, and we were pretty much able to play whatever music we wanted and have an open bar as previously mentioned. The limitations you might find here are the times you're able to come in to set up. You are given a small window of time to set up and breakdown your event unless you give up some $$$$. For financial transparency, we were able to get an amazing deal on the venue. We booked last year before prices increased to their current rate. We managed to get the venue for 9 hours for under $3,000. Working with Trish Barr was easy. She made the process of booking the venue and the whole process pretty smooth. Trish doesn't dance around things. She tells you like it is and she means what she says. That made for a great business relationship, and we didn't find ourselves with any last minute financial surprises. On top of that, we got our deposit back fairly quickly once the wedding was over. Also, please note that Garden Court has a list of preferred caterers that you have to use, but that was no issue for us. I wholeheartedly recommend Garden Court. This was a dream venue and it really perfectly suited for our wedding.
