I found the classes really hard work but the atmosphere was relaxed but positive, I have since achieved black belt status and I compete in prestigous tournaments such as:- Irish Open, WAKO British Nationals and Cimac to name a few and with results I may add! I have noticed a lot of changes in myself, I have improved strength, flexibility, balance, mental strength and concentration. There is plenty of open space: beautiful heathland, ancient oak trees, volcanic rocks to scramble on, the river and of course the lake. OK, there isn't a castle or Palace, but there is a ruined 15th century mansion and a folly at the top of the hill. The story is that the oak trees were be-headed, just like the mistress of the house Lady Jane Gray (the 'Nine Days Queen') whose own execution is featured in a beautiful painting by Delaroche http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Paul_Delaroche_-_The_Execution_of_Lady_Jane_Grey.jpg I'm no expert on oak trees, but the one in this photo is pretty spooky and it was taken on a sunny day: it certainly convinced me! The park is an easy cycle ride from Leicester centre (about 7 miles) if you want to avoid the usual car parking charges and queues, and there is a good (but busy) cafe.

There are deer, ducks etc to add interest and even the ruins of Bradgate House where you sometimes see peacocks. You have to pay a few pounds for car parking, but this does go towards the upkeep of the park. A great place for dog walking or a family day out.

I have a fondness for Abbey Park even though I don't get to go very often. My parents used to take…read moreme here alot when we were kids. Abbey Park is a mostly walled park first opened to the public in 1882. The river Soar flows through the park and is full of life - ducks, swans etc. The ruins of Cavendish House can be seen which burnt down in the 1600s. Activities for families - so much space for games, football, cricket etc. There is a large play area for kids of all ages which includes a large paddling pool(which was dry last time I went). There is a small gauge railway there and you can have a ride on the back of one for not much money. There is also a small petting zoo including rabbits, goats and an aviary. Abbey Park has very extensive grounds and you can spend a good deal time here whatever the weather. It's close to the city centre and also B&Q Depot and an ideal place to swing into for a quick trip or a long afternoon walk. There are two car parks as I remember- one is free and one is a council run and therefore expensive money-making pay and display.

I would recommend this gym to anyone, the equipment is very good and the place is always clean…read more I've used most of the gyms in Leicester but the gym is the only one that suits all of my needs especially being open 24 hrs a day which is ideal because of the hours I work. My only gripe is that some members seem to have a problem understanding gym rules ie returning dumbells to there correct places, and using sweat towels, this should be monitored and enforced a lot more than it is to ensure all members are able to enjoy their workouts completely.

They use the logos and names of the tracks to make you believe they are a track experience when they are far from it. They are very expensive- twice the price of other reputable companies who actually use the track and give you 3 x more track time. Their customer service is also shocking. Awful. Took over six weeks to respond to a complaint. Spend your money wisely. Go elsewhere.
