In areas where he still struggles, he has teachers who understand how he learns and help him along while still holding him to him to high standards. He's actually learning, not just showing up and turning in busywork. Earlier struggles at school extended to his social and emotional life. It was hard to see him struggle when knew him to be bright, funny, insightful, and kind. September School has drawn that out. He's part of a supportive community, has good friends, and is valued for being himself.

The small class size, the personal attention, the caring and supportive community have all transformed his attitude toward school and learning. At September School, he isn't expected to expected to think and perform like everyone else. Teachers support him while also still holding him accountable. We also love the policy of not giving homework, which means assignments get completed in class and school stays at school. September School certainly isn't right for every kid, but for those that need a non-traditional learning environment, it's amazing.

One kid is very driven. One struggled quite a bit with self-confidence. Melissa met each kid exactly where they were at and gave them the praise and encouragement they both needed. She helped them approach the test fully grounded in real self-confidence. She also taught them life lessons of how to prepare for tests in college and grad school and for challenges in life. If you press on REVIEWS NOT RECOMMENDED at the bottom of the review section, you will see so many great reviews. Why the bad reviews are the only ones being publicized is ridiculous! My son has been going to Huntington for many years, from grade school until present. He is now preparing for ACT/SAT. Melissa, the owner, is down to earth, honest, passionate, and by all means, she completely cares about the students in the program. Yes, it is expensive, but our experience is overwhelmingly positive. Our personal experiences: * My son always comes home feeling more confident and really does like attending. * He has never once complained about any of the teachers, although he has his favorites! * The staff is always available to answer any questions or address concerns. * Once in High School, I insisted that my son schedule his own study sessions, to teach him responsibility and autonomy. I imagine it was a bit of a headache for the staff at first, but they never once complained and supported my philosophy. * Over the years, my son's organization, attitude and study skills improved to the point that he now uses Huntington 'as needed' when he finds himself struggling in a class. He also attends weekly for college prep study. *The staff will even meet with your child's teachers to make sure that all those involved are working together for a common plan. There are many other positives, but I think my above testimony is enough to express my views. When a parent sees their child struggle, it can be painful. We worry about their self confidence, their feelings of self worth, their future etc. Huntington not only addresses the student's issues but the parent's concerns as well! We started at Montclair in 2010 and have been here ever since. The students, staff, and families make up an wonderfully diverse segment of Denver's population and have been a wonderful community for our family. I have also worked at the school the past few years fostering the Enrichment program which brings learning to life and enhances the curriculum in unique ways. Montclair focuses on Enrichment and Personalized Learning and fosters student learning in a variety of innovative ways including community partnerships, field experiences, and many guest speakers throughout the year. I would also state that the comments made from a parent in 2008 are outdated and would welcome you to stop by Montclair for a tour if you are interested in this wonderful neighborhood school!
