I already wrote a review of this place, but it was so negative and heavy it must have been taken down by Yelp with enough complaining and legal arguing from TBO.
They market themselves as being a warm reform congregation, but don't be fooled by the marketing. I was there are over six years, and the stuff I saw there would give you nightmares. No one there remembers who I am because they want to forget what happened there years ago. I was a student in the Hebrew school for six years, but for some reason no one remembers me. I am not going to go into detail, but I will describe the place so you get an idea of how it works. Firstly, this place is very cliquey. It's a ghost town during the summer because everyone dumps their kids at Reform Jewish camps demanding they turn their kids into Jews. The synagogue is divided into the people who have a conscience and those who don't. The half that doesn't have a conscience mostly consists of unethical board members who keep the corporation going by doing unethical dealings behind the other half's back. The rabbi is involved in these dealings. (Of course she's telling the truth, but we can't let this get out!") You wouldn't believe the things that happened at this place and some of the things I have seen the rabbi do when I was in high school. The former rabbi needed to save face around the ethical and morally stronger Jews to make himself feel like he's a good person, when actually he was a bundle of anger and uncivilized and unrestrained behavior. He would do ANYTHING to get his daughter, aka 'my dear Jenna,' to get ahead. He thinks poorly of Christians while monitoring the local Christian community for ungodly behavior and working to win favor with other Christian circles while committing really unethical acts behind closed doors. I simply sat down with those Christians and told them what was happening, and they informed the rabbi never to ask for their friendship or favor again. You have no idea what happens behind the privacy of those closed doors. A couple of times he argues to the police that they have no legal domain there because of the Social Contract, and he gets away with doing a lot of illegal and simply disgusting things. If it did come to bringing Rabbi Rossoff to court, the whole place is filled with lawyers who will fight for him no matter what, no matter how. So much of what he does is against what is written in the Bible and basic ideas of decency, and most of the stuff that comes out of his mouth is pseudo-psychological babble meant to pull in the unsuspecting person. His idea of God is this: after removing all of your rightful boundaries given to you by civilized society, you must put yourself through depression and obesity to prove your dedication to God; the elderly are simply a waste of space and effort; if you can't give money you are a worthless Jew and of no importance. If you're a child without light in your face, you're fair game. They damage you to toughen you up for the real world, and the only thing I come away from this whole experience is that Judaism really doesn't have wisdom. Vulnerable children are handled by the rabbi, and he doesn't give them much of a chance. He gives advice that doesn't help Jews survive in society by the same standards the rest of the world is held to; it's just another way he sacrifices the weak, invaluable members of the community.
The synagogue believes in survival of the fittest so much that they will sacrifice or humiliate you to God. Case in point, there was a doctor who donated one million dollars to the synagogue. He was a truly nice person, but they turned on him telling him he was a piece of shit and that his personality traits made him weak. When he responded with the threat to sue and demanded the money be returned, half of the room overpowers this man by defending the rabbi with the best legal care. Since I witnessed that scene, I should have known that everything would go downhill for me from then on. I should have listened to my family when they told me this man was a creep. He sees openness and kindness as weakness for his blood thirsty God to trample and destroy, just as they did to me. I was literally broken in that place and wasted in that place, and it has simply lead to the greatest existential crisis of my life. The synagogue made sure I would never come forward with my story, as they threatened me with my life if I wrote a review such as this one.
But remember there is an entire part of this synagogue who doesn't know this happened, because Rabbi Rossoff and the board hides it from the moral and good Jews of the community.
I don't care if I'm sued for this review because it's all true, and I would be wiling to defend this in court. The world will eventually see what this community and Rabbi Rossoff hid from the world. It will eventually hit the news, and he will be shamed out of the entire Jewish community. read more
