I am very sad to write this review. I have been going to Temperance Animal Hospital for 30 years. My 14 1/2 year old GSP/Weim. had a seizure or something in January . I called Laps of Love to get him euthanized. By the time they arrived we decided he was ok and put him on Hospice. Happily he is doing ok. But because of anxiety, he collapses when he goes to the vet no matter how many meds I give him. So I decided to not take him in June for his routine check up. First time he has missed. He has been on prescription dog food for around 2 years. When I ordered it, I received a call saying they didn't want to fill it because he missed his check up 3 1/2 months ago. I needed to find a new vet after the Cat Doctor went out of business. I heard positive things about this place, so I decided to schedule an appointment for my cat. I'm glad I did. It's a very nice facility with caring, knowledgeable staff. Dr. Samson was great about answering all my questions and taking the time to explain things. It's more expensive than some other clinics, but I don't mind shelling out a little extra money if it means getting the best care for my fur baby. read more

Took my dog in to see Dr. Lewis yesterday because she was not eating, had blood in her stool and had green vaginal discharge. I was told this was stemming from my dogs allergies. I have dealt with this over four years and I've never had bloody stool or my dog not eating because of her allergies. They tried shoving a pill down my dogs throat and she threw it up while they were walking her back to the room. When the technician brought my dog back she was foaming at the mouth, I asked why she was foaming, the girl told me it was from her pulling on her leash. Never had my dog foam at the mouth because they pulled on their leash but apparently I am just a id**t. Since the technician was not watching my dog, my dog dropped the pill in the hallway (for another dog to pick up, whew that could have been bad). She had NO CLUE what she was doing. This is not our first bad experience at this facility. I highly recommend going elsewhere if you want someone who actually cares about your fur babies. read more

I would like to share my experience with TAH. My 2 year old French Bulldog was rushed to the emergency vet by my house (Troy MI) Monday night due to severe pain of some kind. She was prescribed pain meds and pushed out the door of this place with no testing of any kind done. She continued to worsen over the next couple days. She got to the point where she would not eat, drink, walk, and she was just shaking in pain. I had no answers. My family has been coming to TAH for about 15 years now. I moved to Troy MI (2 hours away) about 5 years ago and since then I had found a vet about a half hour north of me. The past two times I've had emergencies with my dogs, I have been turned away from my local vet due to overbooking. I cried to them on the phone that my baby was suffering and not eating and they still did not offer an appointment. My mom (still living close to TAH), called immediately for advice on what to do for Stella. We were met with advice, and not only that, but we were told that I could drive her down and that they would never turn her away (but we may have a wait.) After calling 4 vets close by me, I was only met with resistance, and was not offered one appointment for the same day. So I packed her up, and drove her 2 hours to see Dr. Ravary. It was the best thing I could have done. The staff was completely amazing. We barely had to wait- they were the only ones that actually cared enough to truly want to help Stella. Dr. Ravary was very thorough, and adjusted her meds to make her more comfortable. We found out that her pain was a ruptured disc. The meds are making her feel so much better already. She has her appetite back, is drinking, is more alert, and she even chewed her favorite bone today. I've never been so thankful. As an RN myself, I encountered so many people that were just willing to let my sweet girl suffer yesterday. TAH will always receive the kindest words from myself, and my family as well. You guys really rock. We will be back. (It'll just take a couple hours to get there.) haha read more

Great place. I had been going to another vet for a long time, but started to get frustrated at their limited hours and days. Temperance is open every day of the week, which is great for my work schedule. They got us in right away for an appointment when our dog was having an issue, and took care of it, and did so at really reasonable prices. They also called to check up on him, and genuinely seemed to care about his well-being. I switched all my pets records to the hospital and even though I have to drive a half hour to get here, plan on continuing to use them into the future. Highly recommend. read more

I grew up just right over the Michigan line in Ohio and drove past this Animal Hospital for years. Never needed their services, as I didn't have a pet. I was recently back home for the weekend with our dog from Chicago. On Saturday, our dog woke up with an irritated eye that wasn't getting any better by flushing out. I yelped veterinarians in the area and Temperance Animal Hospital came up with positive reviews. I gave them a call last minute on a Saturday and while the didn't have any open appointments, the employee I spoke with stated they do take walk-ins, but couldn't guarantee how long we'd have to wait, as Saturdays are their busiest days. I gave the employee our information and said I'd be there shortly. Upon arrival, they greeted us with a very friendly smile and let us know what walk-in number we were. There were 2 ahead of us and I thought to myself this is going to take the whole morning. To my surprise, I was in and out in about 1.5 hours. That's including meeting with the vet tech, the vet, testing and showing how to administer the meds in our dogs eye. Biggest shock to me was the cost, as I was expecting to spend a lot more for everything they did. This establishment does not price hike and is very fair. A+ for that. I would recommend to someone looking for regular veterinarian or if an emergency pops up while in town. I may even take them on as a second vet for when I am in town with our dog, as I would happily take my dog there again. read more

This is a very clean animal hospital & staff is very caring & friendly. I find the prices a bit high, but it is convenient if you live in the area. Dr Whitmer took good care of my doggie when she had an ear infection. Compared to other vets I've been to, you do not get a lot of one-on-one time with the Doctor, but adequate to treat your pet. However, I was very impressed that Dr Whitmer returned a phone call when I had questions about my dog's health & she gave me ample time to discuss my concerns. I recommend this place! read more

I had taken my pets their for quite some time. I took my dog there because he was limping. The vet told he that he had cancer and eventually he would need to get his leg cut off. She wanted me to get blood work on him because she wanted me to put him on pain pills and they would be very strong on his liver. She wanted it all done right that day but after giving me the total of what the bill would be, I had to go home and discuss it with my husband. She really made me feel like a horrible person because I wasn't getting it done that day and my dog couldn't afford for me to wait. After discussing it with my husband, we decided because of the age of my dog, we did not want to put him through the amputation, and strong drugs and wanted to let nature run its course. This was 2 years ago, and my dog is not longer limping or shows any signs of cancer. This doctor would have made me kill my dog because of how she treated me and her misdiagnosis. read more

A special shout out to Dr. Smith and Vet Tech, Paul. Our dog started having some pain while eating and Dr. Smith was able to figure out the problem right away. Paul was wonderful with Ruffles during and after her surgery. He even helped load her in my car and gave us a follow up call the next day. Dr. Smith figured out a very usual problem with Ruffles a few years ago and the surgery was a complete success. We are lucky to be patients of Dr. Smith and his wonderful staff. read more

The pros: open every day, extended hours, convenient location, clean. The cons: Doctors only spend about 10-15 minutes with the animal during a visit, prices are higher than average for the area, hospital isn't equipped for advanced levels of care, staff can be rude and condescending. I've been taking my pets here for over a year, and I am just not satisfied with the level of care and attention they receive. It has gradually become worse over time. Not only do I get charged $50+ for a very brief 10-15 minute exam, but have been sent home with my sick pet and told to come back if the condition worsens, which means more $$$ to treat a worsened condition instead of being proactive and doing a thorough exam before allowing the condition to exacerbate. When I've advocated for my pet by asking questions about medication or treatment options, the staff has been rude and acted as if I was questioning their decisions, which was not the case. I expect the Vet to be the expert in animal medicine, but if I'm not given a satisfactory answer to a question or my questions are disregarded, I begin to lose trust in their opinions and ability to care for my pets. I always try to educate myself on the diagnosis, medication, and treatment in order to understand what is going on with my pet; however, this is not something that is encouraged at TAH. I hope to find a Vet that will spend the necessary time getting to know my animals and providing them with the best care possible. read more
