I loved the outdoor stone patio.

We loved Temescal Beach House for our wedding in March. It is a very intimate and beautiful venue with lots of gorgeous outdoor backdrops (stone patio, garden wall, exposed brick, nearby lake, and waterfalls if they are turned on). We decided to go with minimal decorations and leverage the natural scenery. The place can accommodate up to 80 (though it might be tight), and was perfect for our small 36-person wedding. My husband and I love parks, nature, and water, so this was right up our alley. It is also very affordable since it's part of East Bay Regional Parks! The venue had a list of approved caterers to choose from, tables and chairs provided, restrooms, and small prep kitchen (though this is too small for caterers to actually cook in). We appreciated the gorgeous outdoor patio, which we used for our ceremony, and indoor reception hall with lovely stone fireplace. This gave us a built-in contingency plan for rain without having to rent a tent! There's plenty of parking for guests as well. It is a public park so there will be park-goers walking the nearby trails, but our caterer (Culinary Excellence) did a great job of ensuring privacy in the venue space for our event. Making reservations, payments, and getting insurance with EBRP was quite easy. We enjoyed this venue so much and would even go back to the park to do the trail around Lake Temescal. If you like simplicity and nature, I recommend considering Temescal Beach House for any special event!

I rented this space for my 50-person wedding in November. I would probably give it 4.5 stars if I could. Pros: Intimate and beautiful setting, ample parking, both indoor and outdoor space, tables on site. It was a very special place to get married, and I would highly recommend that people check it out for wedding and other events. Cons: some traffic noise (minimal), graffiti on adjacent bridge (not visible directly from patio), catering restrictions (although we ended up loving our caterer from their list), flower and exit toss restrictions (no petals, herbs, seed, etc. allowed), only 1 dressing room (had to choose if bride or groom got to use it!), kitchen was minimal, beach was closed (with large, odd sand piles created). Aside from this, my only other qualm was that we were initially quoted and charged for the regular weekday/daytime price, but then later told the price would be higher due to it being Veteran's day. I felt they should have split the difference go due to their mistake. Oh well... it's still a very nice spot! Update: A few people have asked me which caterer we used. We went to a couple of the EBparks Tuesday caterer tastings (open houses) that were hosted at the Brazilian Room. We ended up using Culinary Excellence (also reviewed) although there were several other nice options too. Catering worked out better than family bbq style which was our initial thought....

So we proceeded to ask the lady who he left in charge who pretty much knew NOTHING and she told us to just leave it out there and she would take care of it so WE DID and that resulted in them taking our deposit. Sounds like a scam from the business to me. Employee tells you one thing, owners tell you another. Please people don't even bother getting scammed and I'm sure if I left the place in a mess, he would've taken photos. We cleaned up everything and even swept the place. These people are full of it, don't waste your time. Also took him a year to respond, never responded to any of the emails or calls. Scam likely , bravo!

As a host, the space is reasonably priced, clean, well-lit, conveniently located, and most importantly - completely wheelchair accessible. There are very few venues in the East Bay where the entire space is accessible. In this case, this includes the mezzanine (there is a lift), and there are 2 accessible bathrooms (of the 6 total bathrooms). I have also found that the space has adequate tables and chairs, as well as a small stage, a projector, and sound system, so I don't have the added expense of renting those things. I wish it had a kitchen (it has a fridge), but other than that, this space is awesome for lots of types of events! I already have another event booked there in November.

She was the first American woman ever accepted into the top Paris architecture school back in the day and her fusion of Gothic and Moorish design represents the best of early California architecture. My friend wanted to stay here and while the price is high it's worth it to stay in a piece of history. The rooms are historical so don't expect anything too modern, the check in area and atrium behind it have some gorgeous architectural details and the sounds of running water. The parking lot next to the hotel costs 40 a night, if you don't mind walking you can park at a structure a couple blocks away for 20. Part of the hotel cost includes a free beer or wine at the Morgan bar on the second floor. If you've ever seen the pool at Hearst Castle you'll get something in the same vein but smaller in scale here. The big difference is you can swim in this pool if you are a guest!

Nicole was super responsive during planning. Nicole and Maria were amazing on the day of, checking in, helping with last-minute changes, and even making sure my husband and I got a plate of hors d'oeuvres. The whole team was awesome. The venue and logistics: It's an older building, so heat isn't always adjustable, but you can turn it to the lowest setting. Towels were soft, water was hot, and the honeymoon suite was quiet. There's always a coffee and tea bar near the lobby and fresh water with fruit in it. Pool sign-up is required. One person found it a bit cold, but others liked it. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, and makeup removers were provided. Location and vibe: Stunning historic building in the heart of Berkeley. Guests could walk around the city easily. Amazing Golden Gate Bridge views. Explore the courtyards and hidden spaces--you'll find new spots everywhere! Overall, a gorgeous, unique, and super fun place to get married. We can't wait to come back for our one-year anniversary!

Not only is the venue beautiful and spacious, but the organizer is super nice and accommodating. There are high ceilings, great audio, a nice stage, and lots of useful equipment. For such an amazing venue, it's amazing how inexpensive the total cost was! Aside from the venue itself, the planning involved to secure the venue and set everything up was made incredibly easy by the manager. She was very responsive by email and helpful in suggestions for what can be done with the event. She also owns a super cute doggo that's Instagram famous! We knew about the Berkeley Hillside's affinity for classical music, so we thought our program would be a good match. The Hillside Club's manager Araceli was very responsive and informative about their availability, requirements and willingness to accommodate us. Not only did Araceli understand our needs but she was extremely supportive and volunteered to help us with anything we might need in order to offer a highly successful and professional production. We recommend this venue, not only for the amazing architecture and splendid acoustics, but also for the great communication of our hosts; their openness and their flexibility to accommodate our very specific needs. The venue has a beautiful stage, with ample backstage (a green room upstairs and one downstairs - with access to a bathroom) and it is great for small productions such as ours, or small chamber music concerts that they host often. If you do visit the Berkeley Hillside, be sure to make the acquaintance of Bella - the Boston Terrier of the club whom we adopted as our mascot. She is a real drama queen and will definitely brighten your day

The building is nostalgic and reminds me of country clubs I stayed at in New York State. The beautiful wood, the grand staircase, and the royal-colored decor took you back to the gilded age. Outside my bedroom window stood two magnolia trees with gorgeous blossoms. The room size was generous, and every morning a continental breakfast consisting of juice and pastries were available only steps away from my door. We enjoyed lunch by the golf course and walked the beautiful grounds. The club rules are reasonable, in my opinion - no denim, shirts must have collars, etc. Perhaps the most difficult rule to follow and remember was the cell phone rule - they aren't allowed. Frankly, not being enslaved to my phone was quite lovely. After a few hours of not using it, I didn't miss it. Also, not being able to use my phone to take photos or chat is the reason I didn't take pictures inside of the facility. I respected the rules. I did take a few photos of the front entrance, though. One of my family members had a reception and birthday party in the ballroom while I was there, hence my reason for staying. It was fabulous! The food, the cocktails, wine, and service were spectacular. From the swing music the band played to the yesteryear atmosphere and attire, this was one of the most memorable weekends I've had in quite some time.
