From the start, his communication was excellent and his website made it super easy to build out our playlist and share exactly what we wanted for the day. On the wedding day, he delivered. He kept the energy up, kept guests engaged, and did a great job reading the room. The dance floor was lively, and he struck the perfect balance of being entertaining without being over the top. One of the most memorable moments of the night was when we transitioned from the reception space to the restaurant--Alex got everyone into a conga line to Gloria Estefan and led the whole group across. Our guests are still talking about it. The photo booth was also a huge hit--people loved taking home the photo strips as keepsakes. He…read morewas strongly recommended to us by my aunt and uncle who had attended two weddings for which he was the DJ - now they can say they've had the pleasure of attending THREE weddings hosted by DJ Hot Chocolate! We booked Israel for our 130-guest wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum (held on 5/2/25) over a year in advance. His rates are very reasonable, but we would have happily paid double what he charged to have him host our special day. Israel is friendly and hilarious and was very responsive via email and phone over the year and half that we were in contact with him. He kept our meetings succinct and professional and was very organized. He made suggestions and song recommendations, and never took it personally when we declined anything. We felt so comfortable with him from the very beginning and didn't even bother to reach out to any other potential DJs - we knew he was right for us from the moment we logged onto our first Zoom meeting. On our wedding day, he showed up on time and set up all of his equipment, dressed to the nines. He has an online portal where we uploaded our must-play Spotify songs, but I had also sent him three MP3s for him to play - two during the ceremony, and the third during our first dance. He played them all exactly on beat, flawlessly. My husband and I met him for the first time in-person as we lined up for our grand entrance. He greeted us with a giant smile on his face and two big hugs. Immediately afterwards, the party BEGAN. Israel carried the night with such ease and positivity. His energy was palpable and contagious. He got our tables up and out of their seats, singing and dancing and setting the tone for the night immediately. We had 5 speeches - 2 best men, 2 maids of honor, and my father, the FOB. At the request of my dad, Israel played background music during his speech at the perfect volume, giving my dad the floor to give a full-on production. I had no idea that was going to happen and am grateful for Israel for going with the flow - it was the perfect touch for an incredible speech. Once the dance floor opened up, Israel came right out there with us all and absolutely carried the party through the end. He had us doing the Cupid Shuffle, the Wobble, and a couple of other organized dances that nearly all of our guests participated in. I don't think a single person left early! Israel had my 87 year old grandmother on the dance floor until the night ended. He also brought two wire baskets filled with flip-flops "for the ladies" whose feet were hurting from their heels - these were a hit, so many guests were wearing them! It was such a kind and thoughtful thing to do. He also took a bunch of selfie stick videos of everyone partying/dancing, and put them together into a 5+ minute video montage, which he emailed to me a few short days after the wedding. It was so much fun to re-watch!! See the two photos - they are stills from that video. Need I say more? Look how happy everyone was! So many of our guests reached out to tell us how much fun they had, and how awesome our DJ was. I would give DJ Hot Chocolate 1000 stars here if I could, and recommend him to anyone who asks.
