Beware of a contractor that does not give written estimates in advance. I was over charged by $500…read morefor materials that cost far less, I found this out after doing some research. I had a piece of Ipe which everyone knows is difficult to cut, but he knew I had it because I told him in advance. Mr. White is a very good talker, but not a good listener. He used crap material on my railing instead of going to buy new pieces of wood, he did not really clean up his mess, left excess material on the grounds, such as screws, nails, etc. Then he tried to explain that a large bolt cost $50 each that he used in an inferior 2 x 4. The 2 x 4's had to have wood putty put in the to cover the splits. A new pressure treated one at Home Depot cost $5.27 and 2 x 4 Prime Doug Fir is $2.92. Mr. White claims he was trying to keep costs down, but his workmanship shows on some things he was out of his depth on or just did not care. He had no problem taking $2165 from my 83 year old mother, even though what he did was not worth the original estimate of $1500 or less. In the end it just pays to vet all of these contractors no matter what site they are listed on. Florence Jones

However, I did not expect the level of workmanship and lack of professionalism that I experienced. Before any work had even begun, he contacted me asking for the second half of the payment before arriving at the job. He told me he needed the money because multiple family members were dying. Wanting to be understanding, I tried to work with him. I paid half of the total cost upfront as agreed. Then, on the day the materials were delivered, I found out the supplier had not been paid. Because the materials were already at my house, I felt pressured to pay the remaining balance so the supplier could be paid and the delivery could proceed. The job site was left a complete mess, with old materials and debris left at my home. The patio is still unfinished more than two months later, and the quality of the work that was completed has been extremely disappointing. Some of the pavers are already coming apart, which is unacceptable after such a short time. Communication has been nonexistent. My calls and messages have gone unanswered, and I have had no reliable way to get in touch to have the remaining work completed or the issues addressed. Overall, I paid for a finished patio but was left with an incomplete project, poor workmanship, and no customer support. I gave him every opportunity to make things right, but after months of waiting with no communication, I can no longer recommend his services. If you're considering hiring him, I strongly encourage you to think twice based on my experience.
