Strong practice Convenient bloodwork…read moreTechnologically savvy It's high time for an update, and I have both more and better things to say about Wayland Medical ~12 years in. Getting appointments with the practice has been notably smooth throughout my time with them; the staff is willing to work with you based on your needs and clinician availability. I've also enjoyed seeing a few of the other practice members (eg Benitez, Berg, Rodriguez), each of whom is thorough, knowledgeable, and helpful. The use of the Healow medical app as a portal, and their fully integrated connectivity to electronic medical record systems, has given me peace of mind that all my instances of care are suitably connected in one place. It's also convenient to be able to head downstairs for a quick and easy blood draw when required - and again, clear results are available in the app shortly thereafter. I've also noticed the patient set is younger than it used to be - not just geriatrics anymore. As important as anything above, Dr Ruggieri is friendly and engaged during visits, as the rest of the staff I've dealt with are also. I definitely have a "medical home" at Wayland Medical.

Dr. Heru actually cares about treating the base issue! Which is so refreshing in the way medical professionals go about treatment these days. I was so sick of being handed "a pill for this" "a pill for that". I don't want to rely on or take a pill for everything- and I don't know why so many doctors think that's the answer...! Dr. Heru is very thorough with his patients! He orders the bloodwork, labs, x rays, & goes through proper assessments & examination's- in order to treat and get to the root cause! He is a genuine, stand up- family man! Can't say enough nice things about him!

The art of…read morelistening I once worked with a doctor who told me that he wanted his own doctor to be like Goldilocks's porridge. When I asked him what the hell he was talking about he said that he preferred doctors to be not to hot or not to cold. In other words not just out of med school because they don't have experience and not just about to retire because they might be a bit burned out. My doctor at East Greenwich Family Practice, Dr John Slattery, is indeed like fine porridge. He's old enough to have a lot of experience but not old enough to stop caring. Perhaps his finest quality is the ability and desire to listen. He will patiently listen to my stupid complains and then make comments or suggestions. His examinations are complete and professional but with a sense of humor. When he noticed I have quite a few scars from various mishaps he said that I should think of them as memories or souvenirs. Good idea. The light hearted approach helps things go by quicker and easier. It can be a bit difficult to get through to the office because nobody ever seems to answer the phone and for some reason things like prescriptions and faxes to the pharmacy can take longer than necessary. However the actually interact with Dr Slattery has always been excellent.

Administrative Dysfunction Undermines Clinical Excellence…read more Having worked in a surgical ICU at a large metropolitan hospital for several years during my studies, I recognize what professional healthcare operations should look like. Dr. Mansourati and Nurse Practitioner Ducharme deliver competent clinical care and demonstrate solid medical expertise. Unfortunately, the administrative operations at this practice fall substantially below acceptable standards, fundamentally compromising the patient experience. In properly managed facilities, administrative personnel facilitate care rather than impede it. Here, routine interactions prove unnecessarily burdensome, and front office demeanor frequently registers as dismissive rather than patient-centered. When individuals are navigating health challenges, administrative friction compounds their burden and represents a failure of essential service. Particularly disheartening is watching capable clinical providers have their efforts consistently undermined by operational deficiencies. Healthcare demands collaboration across all levels. When administrative conduct works against patient welfare, it negates even skilled medical work. Until substantial improvements are made, I recommend seeking care elsewhere.

I would highly advise going elsewhere if you need to come in contact with Rebecca the "Office…read moreManager." From my interactions and perspective, she is abusive and quick to remind you she doesn't "have" to fill the medication she already confirmed you needed with your treating doctor. I woke up with pain radiating down my neck, spine, and arms to a point where I still can't move my upper body. I had been in to see Connie Ducharme a few months back for the same issue (less intense at the time). I called Fairlawn primary care this morning and asked for medication (not opiates) to help with the pain while I work on getting x-rays. I get a VM from Rebecca stating that my PA sent the script to a pharmacy I haven't used in years, which I had already updated with Fairlawn at my last visit, but THEY left it in the system. I called back and proceeded to ask if it could be transferred to my local pharmacy because I am in so much pain I can't drive long distances. I can't move my neck to switch lanes or sit up for long periods of time, etc. No empathy provided. Just Rebecca taking the phone and coming down my throat full force. Rebecca took the phone from the receptionist and proceeded to yell at me. "It's not Fairlawn's problem you have multiple pharmacies on file" - my response was "it was because I updated them during my last visit." I also reminded her that my prior medications a few months ago were sent to the correct CVS, why wasn't this one? She did not have any answers to my questions. She proceeded to say to me "every time you call you have an attitude." That is bullying and took me back. Especially because the last time I was in the office, Rebecca told me to drop her name if I wanted my boyfriend to become a patient, even though Fadi wasn't accepting anymore. Why extend that olive branch to a person that's always a problem? Gaslighting as its finest. Ethics complaint will be filed with the state when I am contacted with Rebecca's remaining details. Upholding patient autonomy, beneficence, and justice means respecting a patient's right to self-determination (autonomy), acting in their best interest (beneficence), and ensuring fair, equitable treatment for all (justice). My best interest was not acted in, Rebecca's was. Bullying me and threating to withhold medication is in direct violation with Rhode Island's Healthcare Ethics.

We were surprised to receive a notice from the stroke center asking us to make an appointment with Dr. Cutting, who is a vascular neurologist. Surprisingly, we were able to get a fairy quick appointment, which is remarkable considering some specialists have long wait times. The night before the appointment we were both nervous as to what we might find, but as it turned out, the trip was a big waste of time. While Dr. Cutting seemed like a nice enough lady, she didn't tell us anything more than what my wife's regular neurologist or primary care doctor could have. To me it seemed like a money grab from Lifespan, the parent company of the hospital. I'm willing to bet if we had Medicaid or no insurance, that letter would never have gone out. That's an hour and 25 dollars that we will never get back. To top it off, the RIH campus is tough to navigate due to lack of parking and lengthy walks for someone who is disabled. I would only recommend this practice if you had no other options.
