I really don't get the negative reviews for this place. Yeah, it's not the Ritz but it's cute and kitschy and the experience is everything I expected it to be. The teepee itself is fine. The bed was comfortable enough (a little small for two people but what do you expect from a teepee?!), there's a TV, couch, mini fridge, microwave, desk. That's pretty much everything you'd get from a more traditional hotel so I see no problem. The bathroom is small (again, teepee) and doesn't have a real door so I wouldn't recommend sharing a teepee with someone unless you're pretty damn comfortable with them. There is a vent in the bathroom so that makes matters a little better. It's really nice to walk outside in the morning, sit at the picnic table and read, listen to the traffic go by. What more could you really want from a small town Texas experience?! I love the story behind this place. I love that some locals won the lottery and reopened it. I love that it exists. Oh, and I love that they allow dogs! My pup thoroughly enjoyed her stay. We frolicked through the lovely open fields surrounding the row of teepees and reveled in the excitement of knowing we would be sleeping that night in a room shaped like a teepee. If you really want to try something different and pay little to nothing for a stay in Wharton, look no further. But first off a few things that you might want to consider before taking the jump to sleep at the Tee Pee Motel. Are you low maintenance? Because the hotel takes care of your basic needs: A bed, AC, and running water. My experience started off very naive since no one I knew had every stayed there before. My boyfriend went inside to pick up the room key. He had said that the lady told him that there wasn't running water and they wouldn't know when it would turn back on. They assumed that it would be a 2 hour wait. We took the room anyway because we had no place to stay for the evening. And frankly, the price was hard to pass. One night, 2 people was about $70. When walking in, we knew the space was small and it truly is just enough room for two people comfortably. All my photos are shot with a wide-angle lens so it appears a lot wider but in actuality the teepee is like the size of a dorm room. As we scoped around the place, we saw that the decor and the age old telephone were just elements of how these motel rooms were a part of a city's pastime. I was turned off by the idea of the water not working but it came right on about 30 minutes later. A lot shorter waiting time than we had expected. And the AC was great. It was so cold and running well on a warm Wharton day. In the bathroom, there were towels provided, a hair dryer, and a coffee machine with styrofoam cups, coffee grounds, and hand soap. No free bath wash or shampoo like the nice hotels. Or top of the line appliances. Honestly the appeal of staying here is lost once you spend the night. It's a small room with an outer wall that looks like a teepee. It's still a neat experience that I would only recommend to people who are comfortable sharing a bathroom at close proximity. read more

We stayed for a night as part of my road trip vacation recently & I have absolutely no regrets! Ive always wanted to stay in one of these motels. This place was wonderful & kitschy! Very charming might I add. :) The owners won the lottery & brought life back to this place in 2006. So glad they did! I noticed some other reviews about how this place needing a facelift since they opened. Well, wait no more! It appears recent upgrades have been made. There was fresh paint on the walls, no rust rings in our shower, new "leather" futons, & the "long awaited" flat screen tv's. Having a tv in our room didn't matter to us. We spent time bbq-ing on the grill outside out teepee, playing travel board games, & we even used the fire ring to make a bond fire in the common area behind the teepees. The outdoor future surrounding the fire ring even looked new. Our teepee was clean & cozy. I was impressed & in love. I would definitely come back. :) Hopefully I can bring a group b/c I'm telling all my friends about this place! read more

Do not stay here. It is a horrible place to stay even after we got rental relief manager file an eviction two weeks later. To add insult to injury property was stolen. Management is very dishonest and won't provide amenities and makes excuses why they can't do their job. Instead of taking responsibility they will always try to blame you for it. It's known to have drugs on the property and it looks like the people from the ghetto live there. TP motel part finally opened we lived in the RV Park. Even if you're dissatisfied you'll hear excuses and at times won't get your money back or be overcharged plan on getting screwed over. I know several people that have moved down the street because of the poor management and the straight up dishonesty! read more

I really want to love this place. We have stayed here twice now. It's like a blast from the past that you fall in love with at first site if your into kitschy and odd. But looking past the surface you see her for what she really is. Shabby and uncomfortable. The beds are so creaky you can't roll over without waking up the people in the teepee next door. Ok, it's not that bad, but rolling over wakes up you and your sleeping partner. Plus, the beds are small and lumpy. The pillows have lost whatever fluff they may have had at one time and are just flat bricks now. The only other furniture is a teeny-tiny bedside table, a small desk, a futon, and teevee mounted to the wall. The futon has seen better days. Stained and uncomfortable, it really doesn't serve any purpose because you don't want to sit on it, much less, sleep on it. Overall, the place is clean, but it just doesn't meet modern travelers needs. The wi-fi is slow and the window unit air-conditioner keeps you either too hot or too cold. Oh how I wish I could step back in time to the glory days of road travel and stay at this place in its heyday, but I'm still perfecting my time-travel device. Nice cozy, fun getaway. It's a motel, so don't expect much. The city it's self very small not much to do but if your looking to just try a different stay, come here. There's grills for you to cook outside and also to have a bomb fire. I loved it, will totally come back. read more

We stayed here 2 nights when we first moved into town. It was very tiny and very old. You can it was renovated, but even that was a long time ago. It is time for another update. There were dead bugs on the windowsill and rust stains in the shower. The partition 'door' for the bathroom didn't shut. It just wasn't a very good stay. There are always RV's there, so maybe that is a better option.. read more

Service at check in was very friendly and helpful. Keep in mind that this is a motel. They are very cute! We had a microwave, fridge, and a flat screen! Wifi and cable too. The bed was nice and comfy. There were a lot of crickets outside that kept finding their way in. I didn't mind that too much. The nice 3 inch spider that greeted me in the bathroom the next morning was interesting lol! Overall, bery fun experience! The room was as other reviewer described. Ours didn't have the a/c running prior to checking in so it took over two hours to cool down on this 93 degree day in Wharton. We loved the cute factor and enjoyed our stay.....but there was also no TP in the Teepee, we had to go ask for toilet paper, we were told the ice machine was broken and there was no ice available but when we went to the office to get toilet paper we saw the managers young daughter open the ice machine and grab a piece if ice to eat, so they did have ice but just not for us. Also there was no remote for the old 4x3 television. The staff at check in was friendly and so was the evening staff. Only complaints were the lack of TP, ice and no flat screen TV or remote control. On the plus side, it is a teepee and the price is reasonable. read more

This place needs about 5 loads of gravel!! Bumpy and muddy-water just stands in the puddles. Only complaint I really have. Nice people. Cheap rent. Nice bathhouse. Not far from middle of Wharton. Allows kids even though other than mine I have only seen 2 others. Allows pets. Haven't really seen but one running loose and I think it was an escapee :). Maintenance man here most of the time & he's very helpful. Wish they would fence in a place in the front lot so that dogs could have a place to run. read more

This place needs a lot of love and attention. Roads are very rough, pot holes everywhere with no way to avoid them. RV spaces are on top of each other. Internet is provided but be prepared to use your data cause it's very slow and they have everything blocked. This would be a great place if the roads were kept up, the sign by the street was kept up and the inside of the tepees had a little update. This place has a lot of potential. The office staff is WONDERFUL for the most part. Melinda and the maintenance guy are a pleasure to work with. Very helpful and willing to help in any way they could possibly help. There's a young girl that works in the office, Amber that is the rudest thing I've ran into in a long time. Seems to think she's above all for some reason. Unless updates are Made we will not be returning. This place could be a treat, just isn't yet. read more

This place is a dump! Garbage is everywhere around the pads. Pads needed grading, holes filled in long ago, grass needed mowing weeks ago, bathrooms weren't cleaned or supplied the whole time I was there! The driveways are so potholed you can't make 5 mph much less break it! Most mornings when leaving and some evenings the smell of sewage was horrible. I had little choice this time but in the future I won't stay here if it's free! And the wi-fi sucks. read more

My daughter, grandson and I stayed at this motel on October 11, 2014. I made the reservation thinking my daughter was going to bring her three dogs. She decided to bring only the larger dog. When I arrived at the motel my daughter had already checked in so the charges wrier placed on her credit card. When we checked out I asked if the charges could be transferred to my credit card. I was told that could not be done My daughter was suppose to get the $25.00 pet fee returned. When she called she was told she would get the fee returned because there was feces and urine on the carpet. I called and was told the same. This is untrue. The lady I spoke to said she had pictures of the urine on the carpet. This never happened. My daughter had asked about the large spot of water inside the doorway when she arrived and was told a staff person accidentally left the door open. This seemed possible at the time because there was heavy rain that day. We did not think too much about it at the time. We had no idea that later the staff would say the one dog we had with us had urinated on the carpet. There was no feces on the carpet when we left. The dog was walked and his feces was bagged and properly discarded. When I spoke to the staff on the telephone she claims she saw three dogs at the unit. How she could see three dogs when there was only one dog is beyond me. The unit was not clean so we went to the CVC Drug Store and bought Clorox wipes. I had to clean the toilet seat, the telephone and the dust off the air conditioner. I do not recommend this motel and would not stay there again. read more

I stayed one night. While quaint and serviceable, it is clearly a place where the owners are not reinvesting the proceeds into keeping the place up or upgrading it. I get the strong impression the owners are guilty of milking the place for whatever revenue they get and not plowing back some of it back into the place. Broken, sloppy signs, missing handles, window unit could barely keep up with the heat, poorly vented, torn furniture, wi-fi was slow. Drab decor, the inside really needs to be painted a lighter color. Desk clerk was nowhere to be found upon checking out in the morning, had to leave the key-cards at the door. There was no drop box. Calling the two phone numbers on the door was useless, even the emergency one. Shame, the place could be real charming if the owners put more investment/sweat into it. Would not go back unless I absolutely had to go to Wharton and there were no other choices. read more

I booked my stay at the Teepee Motel,because I passed by it a few times and I was very curious. I paid only 122.00 for 2 nights which is a great price for a hotel. Once we got to the room it was unbearably hot. So know going into it that they do not turn the a/c on until someone actually checks in the room. No big deal. I just turned the a/c on full blast and left to go for lunch. When I got back an hour or so later the room was freezing cold....just how I like it. There are picnic tables and grills availaible so if you want a simple outdoor lunch please plan accordingly. My kids played with some of the children nearby and everyone had a great time. The Wifi worked spotty, which was kind of annoying because I needed to get some work done. I just called the manager and she rebooted the wifi and it worked great.Now the remote to the rather small TV did not work, however it wasn't a huge inconvience as I simply changed the channel by hand and I also do not watch much TV anyway. The staff was very friendly and helpful.My family and I had a great time, and for the price I couldn't see why anyone would complain. read more
