Nice cozy, fun getaway. It's a motel, so don't expect much. The city it's self very small not much to do but if your looking to just try a different stay, come here. There's grills for you to cook outside and also to have a bomb fire. I loved it, will totally come back.

What a disappointment. We called ahead to see if all amenities were functioning and they said -…read moreabsolutely! We based our decision to stop off of that information. Even at check-in, they didn't mention any of this. Well, we get there and head to the grill because we were famished and ready for a burger, walk in and were told they only had one cook and they had a limited menu: chicken strips, wings and pizza. Not what we expected when the menu online had much more of a selection. It was basically a kids menu. So, we had no choice but order what they had. A corn dog, wings and chicken tenders. Gross, gross and gross. Undercooked corn dog, dry wings and processed chicken strips. The swim up bar was closed. The snack shack was closed. The slides were closed. Kids in the hot tub (which is clearly marked no one under 18 in the hot tub). One trash can for the whole area. Water was clean enough and drinks were okay, nothing special. Everyone was nice, but the person on the phone clearly should have told us what we were walking into. They put us in the spot right next to the playground area. We called and asked if the lights were on all night and how bright they were. Yes, on all night and no, not bright, was the answer. Good thing we requested to move because those lights were incredibly bright! Even from four spots down! Sunset was nice. Park is clean and maybe it's fun when they are at full capacity and everything is open and functioning, but it was less than stellar of an experience. Limited on pretty much everything. No maps with park info or anything. We tried to make the best of it, but not what we expected at all. Pretty bummed about the whole experience. Front desk needs to up their game and offer accurate information so campers know what to expect. Should've left when they said they didn't have any maps or info about the park.

They have good 30/50 amp service, cable and water. Back-in parking. Some sites are gravel / asphalt but they have several with new concrete pads and are adding more concrete pads. Gravel is well packed and easy enough to level up on. There is a circle turnaround at the far end. There are currently no pull-thru's. If you have a long rig (our 5th wheel is 42 feet) it can be very tight to turn around in the circle. So if that fits your rig, ask about an easier access site without having to use the turnaround. I was able to manage with a bit of patience. We backed our rig into a site on the south side which placed our doors and awning facing easterly which is great for being outside in the shade late afternoon and evening. Don't let the back-in situation scare you off. If quiet is what you seek, this is the place. The laundromat is clean and well cared for. Internet service is excellent. Outside our dining room windows we watched a horse and 2 donkeys graze. Definitely relaxing over a cup of coffee early in the morning. Corn fields on either side as this is a big agricultural area. Our dogs were welcome, must be on leash. Being located between two small towns, Bay City & Wharton, it definitely has a country feel and both towns are just minutes away. Bay City to the south is a bit bigger than Wharton it seems. They have a Wal-Mart and the usual comfort food restaurants plus a hospital / urgent care clinic. This little diamond in the rough is one we will definitely stop at in the future. 4 stars instead of 5 but they are still actively doing some updates and construction to the place. Can't wait to see it in the future. P.S. we visited two campgrounds in Wharton and one in Bay City. This one is off the beaten path, peaceful and priced reasonably. The other campgrounds don't cater to overnighter/short stay folks, charge too much, and the appearance of the long term camp trailers at those locations are less than pleasing to the eye. Not being snooty, just a fact.

It was all of our first time here at Splashway Waterpark and we were super impressed! From purchasing our tickets online to getting inside the park things were super easy and breezy. Like everyone else has been noting be prepared to fill out a waiver for entrance when you arrive as each person in your party will need to fill one out (digital/online) and show a QR code of your confirmation before you get access to the park. It was awesome we were able to bring it our own food, snacks, and drinks on our own! I loved this option as we have some picky eaters and drinkers and ultimately saved on costs for us on buying essentials like bottled water and electrolyte drinks to keep us hydrated of course! But don't worry if you don't come with anything as there are plenty of food options and fresh food & drinks for you to order throughout the park. We opted for funnel cakes to boozy margaritas and even pizza too! Rides and features for the waterpark were so much fun and safe. We had such a great time walking around exploring what we wanted to get on and beat through the June heat. Plenty of tubes and lifeguards all around to make your fun even safer and a no-brainer to try all of the rides. We especially loved the cool and semi-rapid lazy river. Their lazy river was wide and feels much longer than other Texas waterparks we have been to. We loved it so much we spent most of our time here. We didn't do any of the campground parking or RV grounds use as we had a hotel in a nearby town to be able to hang out with each other and have some hotel accommodations so I cannot speak to that experience here. Lockers were super easy to use and rent so don't fret about any valuables you have as they will be safe. There are 3 options for locker sizes too that can hold things like wallet & phone only (if needed) or a large bags and ice coolers. We were super impressed with our overall experience and will definitely be back in the next year for sure.

I wanted to bring our fishing boat to the coast to take the family fishing but knew the entire trip couldn't be entirely fish focused as the kids, 3 and 5, along with my wife were likely to be unsatisfied if we spent all weekend running around the bay. I saw this KOA had a pool, arcade, shuffle board, ping pong, narrow beach and splash pad for the kids. What excited me was that it also has a boat ramp and very nice fishing pier/day dock. I thought this might be the perfect compromise of kids activities and the chance to take the family fishing without the risk of boring everyone to death if the fish weren't biting and/or I was unsuccessful in finding 'em. lol. We decided to rent a cabin for the weekend and headed down from Austin. The Port Lavaca KOA delivered! The facilities and staff were fantastic. Kids especially loved the splash pad and arcade. The cabin was very well maintained, air conditioned and comfortable. We stayed in one that had a bunk bed for the kids and a full bed for adults. An observation deck extended above the cabin to allow panoramic views of the bay and surrounding area. There is a restaurant on site with pizza, wings and a few other items. Laundry and shop with ice, food, camping supplies and beer/wine were also on site. About 20 minutes away is "downtown" Port Lavaca with a surprisingly large number of restaurants, including a couple that were somewhat higher end. Per the recommendation of the KOA owner/manager, Missy, we had a fantastic dinner at Taiyo sushi to partially make up for the lack of fish we caught ourselves..... Boat ramp was suitable for a shallow water boat, canoes, kayaks. Given the depth of Vaes and Matagorda bay, a shallow water boat is what you need the navigate in the area anyway. A bow rider, ski boat or pontoon boat would probably not be launch able here. A huge thunderstorm had hit the day before we arrived. As a result, the boat ramp had some sand and shells washed up that made launching tricky. Rather than risk getting stuck, I asked the staff at the office if I could borrow a shovel to move the sand out of the way. Two staff members showed up within 15 minutes with shovels and helped clear the ramp. Told me they'd do it, but I had intended and insisted on helping. Before we departed, staff allowed us to use a hose to flush the boat motor (salt/brackish water here) snd spray undercarriage of the SUV. They even offered to pressure wash the boat! Definitely above and beyond. In short, we all had a blast and will definitely plan another visit.

They rented a RV spot and we rented the yurt. Then my granddaughter asked if she could stay with us! So I called the office (before office hours) and they happily moved us to an available cabin (the last one)! I called back a few minutes later wondering what site our kids were in. She told me and I was delighted that it was just 5 spots away from our cabin. The next day my son in law told us that the campground had called and asked if they wanted to move to the spot next to us!! Of course they did, and it's been just wonderful! So much here for the kids. Played shuffleboard this morning and connect four. Then went to the sand beach, floated in the water and made sandcastles. Windsurfing from the beach for my son-in-law. Also love the pool and splash pad! Snow cones at 3, I better get going!
