This school is definitely one of the best decisions we have ever made for our son, and this was specially evident in his transition to his elementary school education. Not only does he flourish in mathematical and analytical thinkings, his behaviors at home and at his extracurricular activities have also demonstrated his improvements throughout his life at Monarch. The principal(Ms. Grace) and the teachers(Ms. Paige and Ms. Julia) have put so much time and efforts into their kids, and the community there(among the parents and kids) is just fantastic! Just like what we have told Ms. Grace, it's really sad that Monarch doesn't have classes after kindergarten, otherwise we would leave our son there for as long as he could.

We are annually assessed by head office in Toronto to make sure staff are following and executing the Playing to Learn curriculum. We continually observe, write observations, and implement emergent curriculum within our centre. The centre consists of four programs: Preschool 3-5 Toddlers Infants. To no surprise of parents and expecting parents in Vancouver - there is a wait list. You'll have to contact the centre to find that information out.

My son goes to this preschool and he absolutely loves it!…read moreI've seen many other preschools and daycares and this is one of the best so far- One of the things I love about this place is that preschooler's classes are recently updated so it's very clean, open space, has big windows from both sides, cute mini toilets & low sinks for little people. This is not a school where they 'train' kids to be super smart from early age- They believe children thrive and learn best when their interests are captured.- so kids have fun doing something they love, learn to share, do lots of activities together, celebrate both Japanese and western traditions- Teachers & staff are so nice and helpful. The school has a big gym and outside area to play, Do only japanese kids go there? not at all! more than half of his classmates are either non-Japanese or half Japanese-. So whenever they send out newsletters or have Christmas party or other parties, they conduct in both Japanese and English, super helpful! I love when they have charity parties- kids (and teachers & volunteers) make cute stuff and sell them like your kid's picture in christmas frame or bubble bath bombs etc.. Another cool event is that twice a year, they have Bazaar and their foods are amazing. All handmade and cooked by kitchen stuff and volunteers but they make amazing Japanese foods that I couldn't believe when I went there for the first time- ( and it's open to public too!) I was expecting some sushis, teriyaki chicken, udons.. those typical japanese stuff, and of course they have those, but on top of them they have Matsutake rice ! ( for fall ) Kyoto style wrapped sushi, amazing variety of Mochi-es, handroll sushi, etc. etc.. you just have to go there to believe it!

The residents appear to be happy and well-looked-after. There are many organized activities, a wide variety of foods and services, and our Mom feels safe and at home. I highly recommend Chalmers Lodge for families who want good quality, but for whom the budget is still a consideration.

Be sure that you have about a week (ideally more) before you need someone because it takes days to get a response. Caregiver quality will be hit and miss (there are some great ones and some real disasters). There used to be a team of humans who helped to build actual relationships and trust with families, now the answer is - that's not our business model. When it come to caring for my kids - that does not cut it. We will be taking our business elsewhere.

They happily tailor to the parents requests (eg. please serve her fruit before bread). I was worried about her sleeping with other kids for naptime (thought she wouldn't sleep) but she had no issues. The space is nice and bright and they go out often for walks and to the fire station. They also go downstairs to the gym or preschool to play sometimes. The only problem is getting in - like most Vancouver daycares there are long waitlists. We had her on since I was first pregnant.
