Finding a new stylist is a very trying process. After moving back East, I've tried a couple places, some that I liked, some I didn't. But location is also a big factor. This is a fun place, good music, comfortable setting, doors open for some fresh air coming in. Spa upstairs, salon and beautiful jewelry downstairs. Located right near the dog park I frequent with my pup, I'm very happy to have picked this spot to try, as I already have my next appointment made. Meagan was great. She was fun to chat with, but didn't push the conversation. She got the color at what I was exactly looking for, and the cut is spot on. Price was comparable to other places I've been to in NJ and that made me know they weren't trying to over charge. Everyone from the owner to the one shampoo/ massaging my head were all super friendly and seemed like they enjoyed being here. Plus, for being a first time client, I went home with a goodie bag filled with products and samples to try out. Also, I bought a beautiful necklace, and most likely will be checking some more out next time. read more

Welp, my hair looked AMAZING. My makeup...nope. I had to go home and do it myself. They overcharged my 11 year old cousin and it was just not a good time. My mother came in late...so that's on her...but they said they couldn't even do the hairstyle that she wanted. Come on.....this was much unneeded stress on the day of my wedding. read more

I now also go to Techniques for my bikini waxes. I LOVE Tina!!! She is amazing. It's so worth the money here to get a full bikini wax. You can tell Tina has been doing this for a long time!!! I was a little nervous at first but she welcomed me and said "we're not modest here, let's just do it!" and I knew I made the right decision by picking her as my wax lady! She's knowledgeable and quick, I love it. She had information/tips for me. I am usually in and out for a wax within 15 minutes. I had a wax appointment once have the owner, Crissy. She was also great but I love Tina. Definitely recommend her!!! read more

Techniques Salon & Spa - Full foil done by Sam! the best ever - Hair Salons Near Me - Blackwood, New Jersey

I visited Techniques just a few weeks ago and have finally found a home for my hair! As many of the other Yelpers have said, the vibe here is very relaxing and calming, everyone who works here is super friendly and courteous. Most importantly, you don't feel like you're constantly being harassed to buy products -- something I've experienced at several salons that totally ruins the "comfort" factor of getting your hair done. I would highly recommend my stylist, Angie. She understood what I was looking for right away, worked efficiently, but thoroughly, and I left the salon with exactly the look I wanted and a gift bag with a full-sized product! Pretty unheard of, if you ask me. Yes, the price tag is slightly steep, but I'd say it's totally worth it if you're looking for a quality experience without the snooty factor. read more

I went to Techniques for about 9 years before I moved over to PA. I miss my stylist Laura immensely. It was always enjoyable getting my hair cut and colored by her, we naturally became friends throughout the years of service. We still keep in touch! Laura always listened to what I had in mind for hair color or cut. I was several different colors over the years and she always gave good advice on should or shouldnt I do such-and-such. Laura definately knows her stuff! The atmosphere is like the gentlemen who also reviewed before me stated- geared at the ladies yes, but that shouldnt deter any person from going. I had several massage throughout the years, facials etc. All top notch and worth the money. In closing I never had a bad experience there. The staff is friendly and talented. And I miss Laura R ! read more

It's a beautiful salon which is part of my 3 stars. Water, coffee, cookies and beautiful waiting area...even though I didn't sit there long. I paid for the lowest end stylist because all I need is a shampoo and long layers. She did ok with that but I ended up leaving kind of disappointed because the layers were kind of short (no way to fix that) and she didn't even ask about my bangs, which I always want cut. I guess I could "chop" that down to getting what you pay for. But you would think at a high end salon, something as simple as long layers and making sure your client is happy would be normal. Not to mention I ended up paying like $70 ! I would consider going back though simply for the amazing job the lady did shampooing my hair. Such a good head massage. However I could get the same crappy cut from supercuts for $10 next time... read more

I was referred by someone I work with and knows the area pretty well. I had been on vacation and very busy during the week so I needed a close by salon to visit during lunch break. I walked in and was initially told there was no opening for an hour. Which is fine I work close by I would have just came back. In the middle of booking my appointment the waxer became avilable and I was able to be serviced right away. Yay! The techichian (Tina) was very friendly and listened to my needs. I wanted my eyebrows cleaned up being this was my first time and did not want the tech thinning them out too much. She trimmed them and cleaned them up without affecting my shape. Perfect! The wax felt a little too warm and I was a little worried it may irritate my sensitive skin but it did not. The interior is so spa like and clean. Parking is a little weird as you have to drive on the lot and down a sltight space that only accomodates one vehicle at a time so make sure you proceed with caution as there could be a vehicle trying to come out while you are trying to enter. They also gave me a nice gift bag for being a new customer with a full sized hair product and nail polish. That was a nice touch. I would say it is on the pricey side but on a day that I need to be seen right away i will definately stop in again. read more

Stumbled upon this salon after having numerous bad experiences at other salons. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the staff and was given a bag full of little goodies. Megan did my hair and she was amazing. She really took time to make sure my hair look amazing and exceeded all of my expectations. I already made I appointment to have my hair colored by her! I am so happy I found a permanent salon! read more

After 8 yrs with my previous stylist, I went to Techniques Salon. I was sick and tired of my hair always looking the the same. I asked Nikki, stylist at Technique to update my 90s look. She cut, colored and styled my hair to a more flattering and updated style. I highly recommend Nikki. She is incredibly talented and very sweet. She has a great understanding of color and the products used on my hair. Love going too to get my hair washed and scalp massaged. The salon is very comfortable. The staff is friendly and professional. Con: Difficult to schedule brow wax appt same day/time for hair appt. Been going for about a yr., still can never get the 2 appts. I would DEFINATELY recommend seeing Nikki. I have not worked with other stylists or recieved other services to rate. read more

Sam has been cutting and coloring my hair for about a year now. She is fun, personable and very good at what she does. You can tell that every stylist at this salon has an extreme passion for what they do. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Techniques. I see Sam for hair & color and she is amazing!! Took my hair from the darkest brunette to icy blonde in a healthy way. No matter who you see, they always take time to explain exactly what they're doing and make sure you're happy with the finished product. I recommend both the salon and spa to anyone looking for a high-end experience in the area. read more

I have been going to Techniques for a few years now. I love the atmosphere and the employees, as they always make me feel welcome each visit. I had an appointment with Melanie this past weekend. I visited Techniques yesterday. I went in pretty much blindfolded as I had never been there before. I choose Angie for my stylist as per the last Yelp review by Reema. I was greeted with a bag of goodies and continued on to my shampoo. As normally you get a wash I was pleasantly surprised when I was given a head massage. I actually asked her if she could come to my house and teach my husband this LOL. I have to say that I didn't know what I had wanted to do. I let Angie give me a suggestion and I'm glad that she did. I couldn't have been happier with the cut that she gave me. Although a distance from my house I will definitely return! :) read more

I had been going to this salon for 7 years and loved it. Sam has been cutting and dying my hair all these years and always did a wonderful job. She always knew what I wanted without me having to say much. Only reason I don't go here anymore is because I moved across the country. Miss you Sam! read more

It's always a challenge to find a new stylist & hair salon after relocating to a new state. I went here based on Yelp reviews & proximity to my job. I also plan to check out their massage options in the future. Angela colored & cut my hair. I should have taken before/after photos because the transformation was wonderful. She did a fantastic job. She gave me a number of styling tips as well. I don't prefer to talk a whole lot while getting my haircut and Angela didn't seem to feel the need to talk the entire time either. Glad to have found her right away! Everyone in the salon was very friendly - from my initial call to schedule an appointment to washing my hair. I got some free samples for being a new customer, including an OPI nail polish. I will definitely return. Stylists work on a tiered pricing system so customers can find a price within their budget. They also sell jewelry. Next time! read more

This was my first visit. What a nice welcoming atmosphere starting with the girl at the desk, the shampoo girl was wonderful offering me drinks etc and a wonderful scalp massage. My hair was cut by Megan and she was wonderful. She talked to me first. We went over what I wanted and she gave it to me. What a wonderful surprise it's been so long since I got a haircut and actually got what I wanted. She was so friendly too and gave me tips and tricks to get the look I wanted. It was such a welcoming atmosphere this is my new location and I will be referring others as well. They also gave me a nice welcome gift for being s new client. I will definitely be back. Thank you so much Megan for giving me my new look. I love it. read more

Your experience will depend totally on who you get as your stylist here. Do not go cheap and get one of their lower level stylists. You may regret it. I had a pretty good experience with a "Senior Designer" but an awful experience with a "New Talent." I didn't even mean to go to the New Talent person, but they accidentally booked me with the wrong person and I was tired and heavily pregnant and did not want to have to reschedule. So I let her butcher my hair. It was a flipping nightmare. How hard is it to do an inverted bob with the hair in back layered closely to the scalp? Apparently very difficult if you have no talent. I won't be going back because of this issue, the girl was completely incompetent and shouldn't have been doing more than washing hair. But pay close attention to those stylists recommended in the other reviews here (I don't remember the name of my Senior Designer) and plan accordingly. Also plan on tipping the hair washer because she'll spend a whopping 30 seconds massaging your scalp. I dislike this particular practice but I guess it is the way things are done in the nicer salons, you gotta be prepared to tip left right and center. read more

When I moved to the area 12/13 years ago I panicked on where would I get my hair done! I found Laura Rohana here and it's been 12/13 years of great cuts, color and fun!! I love to create new and different styles and Laura is just the right gal for that!! The ambiance is nice and I have to say the scalp massages with the hair wash are the great!! I highly recommend Laura and Techniques! read more

The best place to go for all your salon and spa services!! Amazingly talented stylists!! There isnt One I wouldn't recommend!! They have different levels which allows you to choose what your budget allows and still affordable to have stunning hair!! I love their front boutique which always has beautiful jewerly and handbags! My husband and I have had numerous massages here and the experience wss beyond amazing!! I highly recommend this place to everyone!! read more

They destroyed my hair TWICE!!!! Two different stylists unevenly chopped and hacked at my hair. I went back a third time to get them to fix it and they still messed it up and never refunded me or appologized. The girls were too busy chatting and both in quite a hurry and wrecked a very simple short layered haircut that now looks like a big brown lunch box!!! read more

I travel to south jersey just to come to this hair salon. I discovered this salon by high recommendation when visiting my sister who lives in the area. When you first walk in, it feels like something you would find in New York City. It is upscale for the area, a little pricey if you may ask me, but it is definitely worth it. The lobby area is really comfortable and they have jewelry and other accessories for you to look at while waiting. Rose is my hairstylist and she never lets me down. She does a fantastic job. And I truly think she is my hair god, my hair has transformed ever since I started coming here. I usually only get a haircut because I'm a student paying her way through college and don't usually have much extra left over. I pay $42 for a haircut with Rose. She does a great blowout and is a great girl who really makes the travel time worth it! read more

I was able to get a same day appointment with megan to fix my color disaster from two previous salons. I came in for a quick consult to figure out what option would be best and came back couple hours later for my appointment. Megan was great during the consult. She told me exactly what i should and shouldn't do so not to damage my locks. Since i was a new customer they gave me a welcome goodie bag with a sample of full-size product and other samples. I couldn't give the fifth star because i left with some color marks on my forehead and neck which took me a bit to get off at home. But all in all, i was very happy with her service and the price of the salon. read more

Could not be happier with them! It was my first time and they treated me like a princess. Free samples and a full size product were waiting for me when I arrived. Super friendly staff. Prices are VERY reasonable and I was happy with the cut, style and stylist. I will definitely return. read more

I started coming here over 10 years ago. My hair was breaking due to my former overzealous hairdresser who would give me a perm and haircolor. My hair was very damaged. Techniques repaired the damage. Over the years I've had many different hairstyles and haircolors w/and without hilights. Initially the previoius owner (Brian) did my hair.Sheryl took over where he left off and I alway get compliments on my hair! I had an issue with breakage that Sheryl and owner Christy helped me determine it was due to too much protein in my system and on my hair...no more breakage! Recently had an awesome facial with Laura. This is an excellent salon with a great caring team! That includes everyone from the front desk, shampoo staff, stylists, skincare team...Thank you Techniques!! read more

I just moved into the area about a month ago and knew i had to find a hair salon, well i did that last night. The salon itself is stunning when you walk in and the staff at the front desk make you feel very welcomed. i had a color / cut appt. with Laura ( with the blond hair ) and so happy that i got her. She knows what she's doing and takes the time to go over everything from the color to the cut and could not have been nicer. i walked in with a frizzy 3 toned mane and walked out with smooth shiny one color hair with an actual style. Yes you might pay a bit more but its worth it, i will be going to her for all my hair needs and wants from now on. read more

So, I heard back from Techniques and the lady insisted on me coming back in for a complimentary service. It took me months to return, but I eventually did and I got a facial from Tina. Tina is very nice and she did a great job. But most importantly, this place has fantastic customer service. Definitely FIVE STARS for that alone. I'm glad I gave them another shot. I will be back! read more

For awhile I have wanted to cut my hair to a long bobbed hair style. And today I finally decided to have the courage to go. I was lucky enough to have Aubrey ( I think that was her name ) shampoo me. She was phenominal! She gave me a scalp massage. Something I've never had in my life. I didn't want to get up from the chair!! And I had Sam do my hair. I showed her a picture that I wanted and she did it to a t. I absolutely fell in love with my cut and could not be any happier. These ladies in the salon are so nice and welcoming. I even got a goodie bag for being a new client. I will definitely be back, the experience was great!! Thank you again Sam and Aubrey! read more

The atmosphere is definitely geared towards women with soothing music, an overload of scents and a very fru-fru vibe. On the other hand, everyone there is unbelievably friendly and accomodating to everyone, including some of the incredibly spoiled and rude soccer moms who go there. Been going there for years, I don't let anyone but Tonya S. cut my hair. She knows exactly how to give you what you want and you are out in less than 30 minutes. In general, I see everything from trendy to classic to wacky coming out of there and it's always well-done. Prices have gone up over the past two years but I only get 6-8 cuts a year so I can deal. read more

I have been going to Techniques for the past 15 years and have nothing but great things to say! If you are looking for somewhere to receive top quality skin service, look no further! You will not be disappointed I promise! read more

I just had my first appointment with Techniques and I am truly blown away. A bit of background. I like to look good, but often can't find the time to get a haircut so I often resorted to buzz cutting my own head. It worked and didn't look half bad. However, I was looking for something longer given that winter is in full force. I found Techniques through Yelp, saw it was close by, and gave it a go. I was able to get an appointment today, the same day as I called (score!). The salon is nice, clean, has a little jewelry area. Would definitely consider going for some spa services. My stylist was Angie and she completely rocked my haircut. I told her what I normally did when I got my hair cut but was looking for a bit of a change but along the same lines. I can't even begin to tell you how satisfied I am with how my hair came out. The attention to detail is exquisite and it came out flawless. Though I might not be in the area for much longer, I'd definitely come back for the sole purpose of getting my hair cut. read more

I've had a lot of different services done at Techniques, from blowouts, to cuts, to color, and eyebrows and I have to say I've never been unsatisfied with any of them. My review is primarily focusing on my eyebrow technician, Laura, who is honestly the BEST artist who has ever touched my eyebrows. Upon my first visit, I discussed how many people overly thinned my eyebrows or would leave me with holes. Laura went by step by step and told me the best course of action for my eyebrows and gives me the results that I want each and every single time. My eyebrows are nice, thick, and full but very shapely and groomed perfectly. When you're in Laura's hands, you can rest easily and without worry because she knows what she's doing and will leave you absolutely satisfied every time. I never want anyone else to touch my eyebrows! read more

The absolute worst experience. I had Deb she came highly recommended. Well I asked for dirty blonde highlights. I got dark all one color hair. I told her about it before I left and she said when you get outside you will see the light highlights. Why would I have to wait til I'm outside to see highlights. Went home and called the salon back they set another appointment up for Deb to correct my hair.. she put so much bleach on my hair she had to go back twice to fill her bowl then she put me under the dryer. I could smell the ammonia so much it was burning my eyes. I slid down in the chair so the heat wouldn't burn my hair. Deb comes over and says you have to sit up . When she took the foils off my hair was a combination of grey , green , and white. I was in tears . When I got home I tried to condition it . It was breaking off I called the salon again and they said I could come in for conditioning treatments at no cost . I was afraid to go back and I didn't. I had to get my hair cut and the damage is still there. Parts of my hair are different colors. The girl who cut my hair said I will need at least 2 more cuts to get rid of the damage. Now I have to wait to get my color corrected so my hair doesn't break off again..worst worst experience... will never ever go back there .. read more

I have been going to Techniques for many years and I have Never been dissatisfied with any of my services. I've been to Diane for my hair numerous times and I've always been happy. I've went to Debbie for haircuts and styling and again I have been very satisfied. When I get my eyebrows waxed or facials, there is no one better than Tina. I was a hairdresser myself for 45 years and I know a bad haircut when I see it. I can honestly say I have NEVER had one from Techniques. I will continue to have my hair and skin work done there. I hope these girls are there for many more years. They aren't around the corner from me but I would drive far for their services. Thank you for many years of Great Service and many more to come! read more

Soup to nuts, this place was a terrible experience. The girls working the counter had an attitude from the moment I walked in to get my wife a gift card. I then got a quote and gift card, and called a week later to make her surprise appointment, at which time I received a price quote again, for the same person and level stylist, but a different price. It was a gift for her first mother's day, a day without the kids to relax. While at the salon, she sits down to get her hair done, and they plop a crying baby RIGHT NEXT TO HER, as the mother got her hair done across the salon!! Really????? The colorist mixed up colors and gave her brown instead of blonde, which she had to go back AGAIN to fix, and they then charged her $75 MORE than the second quote. Ultimately, it was $200+ for 2trips with bad colored highlights, a crappy style, vapid mean-girl-esque receptionists and listening to someone else's screaming baby for two hours. What a nightmare experience. There's a reason while all the reviews of this place say the same thing... Had to go twice... Bad attitudes... Truly a waste of money and time. If you are considering this place, don't bother... Go to a real salon in philly. read more

I had a terrible experience at Techniques. I just needed to get a blow out so I figured I could go to anyone so I was booked with a New Talent, Aubrey. My blow out took 1 hour and 20 minutes. She had me facing the wall the entire time so I couldn't even see what she was doing. At one point, I could turn my head slightly towards the mirror, and I saw she had my hair completely stuck and knotted in the brush and it took her a long time to get it out. This happened multiple times during the blow out. After she was finished, she said my hair was frizzy so she needed to get some oil. My hair has NEVER been frizzy after a blow out. I got to my car, looked in the mirror, and noticed that the front of my hair wasn't even straight. I had to go home and fix it myself. I don't think ill go back to them again. I had a better blow out from the Hair Cuttery. read more

I have been going to Techniques Salon and Spa for what seems like eternity!!! I have had so many people cut my hair and have never been disappointed. I work full time and have kids so many times I make a last minute appointment crossing my fingers to get in for a cut and color and I always am able to get in. I get so many compliments on my hair and that is such a relief because when I started going there my hair was literally "butchered"!!! The staff is so attentive and so pleasant and over time I got to know the owner. Christy is such a wonderful woman, as I'm in for a cut, I often see her float by and say hello to other clients. She knows them all probably because they have been coming to her for years!! I cant say enough GREAT things about the salon as I not only get my hair done there, but I also indulge in massages, mani/pedi and waxing as well. I have been pleased with EVERY single service!! I truly love all the monthly specials. There is such much to choose from when I need a little getaway!! In short, you will not be disappointed with any service that you receive!!! Now wonder they were rated one of the "TOP SALONS IN THE US"!!! You guys are awsome!! Oh, and I do have to agree with Kurt F. the hair stylists are gorgeous!!!
