Gong Cha - Grand opening

Gong Cha

(2 reviews)

Gong Cha is the newest bubble tea chain to open up shop in St. Albert…read more I took the kiddos for the grand opening soft menu launch. My son loved the lychee mango tea (but FYI boba isn't included in this drink and is an extra charge). I enjoyed the panda milk foam - 1/2 sweet and light ice. Drinks come in two sizes here - Medium and Large. I do enjoy that it's easy to customize sweetness/sugar and ice levels here and there is no upcharge unlike light ice at Starbucks. While there is an app you can download to earn loyalty rewards they aren't quite operational here yet. Lots of natural light with floor to ceiling windows, cute stuffies and boba tea keychains, and plenty of seating - this will be sure to be a happening spot in summer months for teens to come for a treat. Good menu was limited to egg waffles and were in the $6 range for plain, chocolate, and matcha. Looking forward to coming back once they have the full menu.

I'm so happy there's a bubble tea shop close to my area! My kids and I love their bubble waffles…read moreand waffle dogs -- such a fun treat. My new favorite bubble tea is the winter melon -- I liked it so much, I got it in XL! The vibe is really cozy, and they have a great selection of board games you can play while enjoying your drink. The staff are always super friendly, and I love that I can just sit and enjoy my drink without feeling rushed. It's a great spot to relax and play games -- feels a bit nostalgic since there weren't many places like this back in my old neighborhood. Definitely recommend checking it out!

Bahn Mi Nhon Hoa - Seafood bread dish and egg rolls with meat and salad rolls

Bahn Mi Nhon Hoa

The food was pretty delicious here compared to other establishments in the area. I didn't go to all…read morethe restaurants either but the people at Bahn Mi Nhon Hoa were pleasant and the bubble tea juice slushy was flavourful. I think it's real fruit but theirs also powder sugary items too. The avocado bubble tea was delicious. And then my friend and I tried 3 different items and the waitress served them on different dishes and put them in the middle of the restaurant table. The best out of those 3 items was the Salad Roll and the savoury brown sweet sauce and then the item on the far left of the picture I took, a type of seafood fish bread. The middle item was like an egg roll with some sort of meat, probably chicken or pork in the middle. It was good but the oils were too thick and soaked into everything. The oily greasy element hurt my stomach and gave me a small headache so I can't say I enjoyed it thoroughly but taste wise it probably would satisfy someone. My friend seemed to like everything but we didn't finish that dish first. The place is kind of small but the menu is efficiently full of different types of dishes. I recommend ordering from here atleast once.

Checked out the brand new St. Albert location of Banh Mi Nhon Hoa this past weekend. So excited…read moreto have this Vietnamese street food shop in St. Albert! Hubs and I shared chicken satay sub ($7), Peachy colada (fresh fruit bubble tea $6), beef salad rolls ($8), and Pho ($12). Everything was delicious! The salad roll dipping sauce was sweeter than I am used to and less peanut based. Still good - just different. All of their bubble teas are fresh fruit based which makes this Mom very happy. They can also do a dairy free option. Of course the bread and butter here are the delicious subs! Bread is baked in house daily and oh so perfect. I can't wait to go back and try a different sub, the spicy noodle soup, and a vermicelli bowl!

Quickly is the newest Bubble Tea shop to pop up in St. Albert. I've tried quickly twice now - on…read moreboth visits I brought my kiddos and a friend and we tried 8 drinks in total. Located in St. Albert next to Bodega and Brick Wall Vietnamese Restaurant just off St. A Trail. I learned from their wall signage that they are a chain with more than 2000 locations worldwide - wow! The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was bright, clean, and fresh. My youngest comment that he really liked the layout and design of the store. I was disappointed to learn the only "fresh fruit" options here are strawberry, mango, and avocado. Most everything is powder based with a fair bit of sugar - you can opt for 75%, 50%, or 25% sweetness for the added sugars. They also offer some non bubble tea options here like a customizable collagen drink that comes in a cute reusable plastic water bottle with a screw top lid. Some drinks were hit and some were misses. Overall, I think there are still some quirks to workout here. For example, 2 of our 8 drinks were not full in the cup - leaving about 1 1/2" - 2" without drink. When you are paying $8/drink, I would appreciate it being full. One of our smoothie style smoothies was so thick that that kiddo really struggled with getting the drink through the straw. Out of all 8 drinks on 2 visits, my daughter was the most disappointed. She ordered a strawberry mixed with chocolate bubble tea. The chocolate was crushed up malt teasers which was not appetizing in the least in the drink. I ended up having... well choosing to take my daughter to another local shop to grab her a bubble tea elsewhere as that one did not get consumed. Also on our first visit, earlier in the day we all noted that the traditional bubbles or sago were crunchy in the middle - not the usual enjoyable texture. However, on our second visit which occurred later on in the day the bubbles had the texture we are more familiar with. And we do also make bubble tea at home sometimes and have experienced this at home as well depending on how long we cook the sago and how fresh they are. They also didn't have a few items on our visit today including food items or the "heart shaped" jellies. We will give Quickly another try but will likely wait a few months while staff work the kinks out.

Tiger Sugar

Tiger Sugar

I've been to a couple of Tiger Sugar's in the past, but I never really found a drink on their menu…read morethat was perfect and not too sweet for me. But from what I ordered recently, I was pretty satisfied and finished up my drink quickly. I ordered the Earl Grey Milk Tea with boba, 25% sweetness and 25% ice. The sweetness level was exactly what I liked in a boba drink. The boba pearls were nice and chewy. I didn't realize that I could get 3 toppings for 99 cents altogether, so next time I would get pudding too. Last time I got the Mango Sago drink at another location and it was just too sweet for me. I should've known because I couldn't adjust the sweetness and drinks tend to be too sweet for me in general. However the Earl Grey Milk Tea was such a great option for me. My boyfriend got the Taro Pudding Milk Tea. It was delicious. He couldn't adjust the sweetness, but I didn't think it was too sweet to enjoy. The taro pudding was delicious. There wasn't much space to sit inside. There was a large group at a seated in the middle, but we managed to get a table to ourselves at the very end. Inside the shop, they only have three tables. Service was quick, wait time wasn't too bad. There is a bathroom inside but it ended up being out of service when we went. Overall, I liked my drink. The menu is pretty extensive and there's a bunch of options to choose from.

I had been eagerly anticipating Tiger Sugar's opening ever since I saw the signage start going up…read more I've had their drinks before outside Canada and knew they stand out compared to other tea options in Edmonton. They officially opened last week and I stopped by at my first opportunity. The space is fair small with just a few tables for those who want to eat in. Right now it is still decorated with tiger balloons for their grand opening. I ordered the strawberry mochi drink with oat milk and the staff member was kind enough to confirm that while they could do this drink with oat, it would still contain milk ingredients. While that isn't an issue for me, just a preference, I was happy that she checked to be safe. This drink might possibly be the prettiest tea I've ever had. It is full of colourful toppings and the cup was streaked with strawberry (their signature "tiger stripes"). After giving it a good shake, I took my tea to-go. My only very minor complaint is that their straws are very flimsy and I wasn't able to puncture the seal with it.
