I've driven by this place many times so earlier this week I finally popped in to see what they had…read morethat I could send to by fiancee for Valentine's Day. They had a few options for gift baskets as well as a table with a range of pre-packaged cookies, though the table was pretty empty. After chatting with the clerk I decided on a gift basket and set up the delivery. The total price was great. The delivery actually cost more than the basket which surprised me. Things aren't very complex here as she wrote my delivery information in a day planner and the delivery charge on my receipt was "misc cookie". The basket arrived on time and it looked better than the sample I looked at in the store. Unfortunately my fiancee said the cookies were just "ok". I'll give these guys another shot as I like the idea that they're a non-profit helping out people with disabilities. The baked goods that I saw in the cooler looked tasty so maybe on a return trip I'll give those a try.

Cookies On The Go gets 5 stars for a few reasons. First of all, their baked goods and other sweets…read morehave always been excellent. I'm not much of an oatmeal fan, but their Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chip cookies are amazing. They have a lovely display case when you walk in the door. The business has expanded over time and has a deli now and decent seating thanks to an ambitious new chef, whom I had a chance to chat with when I was in a few weeks ago. I've only heard rave reviews about the deli food which I've seen others order. The prices are really good for hearty, home-made food. Secondly, Cookies On The Go was specifically created to promote learning and development for persons with a disability. These folks are responsible for the cookie prep, packaging and labeling (which includes ingredients). In doing this, they develop other aptitudes that everyone should have the opportunity to enhance as a result of work experience such as budgeting, marketing (depending on the job) and social skills. You can also support Cookies On The Go by purchasing gift baskets as well as placing orders, which is brilliant. Clearly there is more than enough to keep everyone busy. Calgary would be a better place if more organizations incorporated this business model in some way. I don't care who you are, as everyone wants to feel valuable and contribute to society. You certainly can do your part in maintaining this important cycle by spending your money here, ensuring disadvantaged adults have a safe and productive place to be, which is something most of us take for granted.
