Auckland is full of contrasts. For a bustling metropolis, you are never far away from a wee patch of green, where the sky opens up and you can take a moments breather from the fast pace of city life.
This is what surprises me about the central city, and where I think the city planners have really excelled themselves.
Te Taou Reserve is one of these wee urban hideaways, fronting onto busy Beach Road it is a great little spot to park yourself up on one of the benches scattered around the area and take it all in. The flowers, the grass, the pigeons about to swoop in and take your last chip.
Because of its central location it's all to easy to nip down to the fish and chip shop down the way, grab a picnic blanket and a few friends and settle in to watch the sunset on a long hot summers night. read more
