Melville Park is basically one big square field. Well, it's two, but one of the field's is occupied by a croquet club so that doesn't count. The biggest field is at the top of a hill, and is perfect for running around and kite flying when kids aren't playing cricket on it. It's set up for cricket. Even more up the hill is a playground. It's a bit worn down but still serves its purpose - swings and the like. If you venture even further, there's a couple of other fields that are for the Auckland College of Education and Auckland Normal Intermediate. There's plenty of fields in the area, so if you like grass, this is a good place to go. I just started running so I like to run a lap of Melville Park to warm up. There's a nice view and a path around the edge. I should really clock how far it is to run around the perimeter. It's not a huge distance but you know, for a beginner runner like me it feels like forever. read more
