Devonport is pretty amazing. Having had it as a local neighbourhood my whole life, I've often forgotten just how great it is. But it is still one of my first recommendations when out of towners ask where to visit.
There is one road in and one road out, which while not good in peak traffic times, really makes it feel like it's own little township. It is, after all, situated on it's very own peninsula.
As soon as you drive into Devo, you feel relaxed. With a small but quality selection of bars, restaurants and shops, it has everything you need and nothing you don't.
It is surrounded by beautiful beaches and stunning views. There are heaps of places to play and walk and number of beautiful big parks.
The houses make Devonport what it is. Amazing restored villas fill the little town, perfectly manicure gardens and kids running around laughing. It sounds like Wisteria Lane and that isn't far off.
It is one of the most expensive places to live in Auckland, but it's free to visit!
