I almost don't want to recommend this place because I don't want it to get too famous and crowded…read more However, I also want them to get infinite customers and survive forever. I have been enjoying tacos and horchata from Rico Taco Mex for more than five years and unlike many other restaurants, while the prices have gone up, the quality, service, and attention to detail have remained the same. I recently tried some of the other options on the menu and they were equally delicious. Be prepared for a little bit of a wait, as all of the food is prepared fresh to order. This is the only restaurant in the area that still makes their own tortillas!

I ordered bistec tacos which come 3 to an order for $14. My wife ordered lengua tacos which are 3 for $16. We shared an order of tortilla chips with guac. Chips were fresh out of the fryer, golden brown, and still warm when we got to the waterfront. Guac was chunky, fresh and so flavorful. The two of them were a perfect combo. Bistec tacos were delicious! Steak was thinly cut, seasoned well, and grilled nicely with a tasty char to it. Homemade tortillas, onion, cilantro, a little salsa verde, and a little salsa Rojo with flash fried green onion on top made for a great lunch. My wife loved her lengua tacos. That meal along with enjoying it on the waterfront during perfect weather turned it into a wonderful afternoon!

This is a great spot to quickly pick up lunch, or stay awhile and dine at one of their many tables…read more There is a lot of space here and even when there are other customers. It doesn't feel crowded. I've been to El Viejo Fred twice and both times did not disappoint. The first time I accompanied my Dominican friend who ordered for me. The second time I was on my own, but the ladies were very helpful and we made it happen. Most of the food is behind the counter in a covered buffet-style setup. You let them know what you are interested in, beef, chicken etc, and they'll show you the offerings. You can't beat their lunch special at around $12-15. You get a giant portion of rice & meat, add on a bit of salad and you're good to go! The food is so delicious, the flavors are all there. I also had the chicken and cheese empanadas as well as beef and both tasted great, I liked the beef best it was very well seasoned. Another bonus? Tamarind juice!! Not many places have it so I'm always ecstatic when I see it on a menu. Both my friend and I really enjoyed the food we purchased from El Viejo Fred, and the friendly service we received, we will definitely be back!

My pupusas filled with cheese beans and loroco were very filling and the calabacita platter was the same. I definitely preferred the taste of the pupusas as the calabacita needed a strong sauce for taste so I ended up using the red and green salsas from the pupusas. However, even though I marked for utensils the restaurant did not provide me any. I don't know if that was a glitch in communications between Uber Eats and the restaurant, but it made it a pain to go hunting for plastic silverware at a quiet hotel.
