A bank is a bank is a bank in my books. All in all, banks and I have no reason to be friends. This credit union is pretty much just like any other bank except in a nicer building. It looks all fancy with its grandiose columns which makes me pretty happy. If I have to go to a bank, it might as well be wrapped in Roman pomp. It also has a strange rule that you can slam your car into park basically on its front step if you're just running in to use the ATM. Along with the columns, this ends up making me feel all kinds if VIP...like la Lohan drunk-driving her coup right into the line-up at some LA hotspot. The staff on the inside includes multiple young bucks (nice to know that there are spots hiring new grads!) and plenty of folks who can cope with 'old person requests' much better than I ever could. I'd rather take 37 punches to the face than have to go fetch a lady crisper $20 bills for her grandson's birthday card, but I suppose that's why they work there and I don't. So in summary, Ben hates banks, this one is fancy enough to fool me into thinking I'm not just handing my money over to bills, and old people drive me crazy but are in good hands here.

They had a nice little display on campus during orientation, which was nice enough, but actually going in and setting up a membership was surprisingly less painful than I had expected. The place was under renovations at the time so it was a bit unorganized and not particularly pleasant to sit around in, but I was seen quickly, different staff came by to make sure I'd been looked after, which honestly got a bit obnoxious, but it was nice to know someone knew there was another living body in the room. Location isn't the greatest for people that are passing through downtown, but at the same time, neither are the other bank locations off Alderney.

There probably isn't a better physical location in town, everything is nearby! Just be careful after dark when the sketchies come out and you'll be fine.

Thank you! Finally! Since when did 'Here's my twenty, i'd like $15 in loonies, $5 in quarters' illicit a: 'Certainly, can I just see your debit card?' For what? How could that possibly be necessary in this transaction? Essentially, what banks are telling me when they won't let me buy laundry money is a) they don't care if my clothes are dirty and b) they don't want to expend the cost of processing coin, bills etc on my behalf when i'm not paying monthly user fees, etc. Grrrrr.... Anyways, moving on... This Scotiabank location will! And I love them for it. If I regularly required teller service at this bank I would probably be a little miffed though. I was in at 11:45am yesterday and waited 20 minutes in line. This bank is only open 10am-5pm, 5 days a week... can't half the staff take their lunch at 1? It seems obvious that a lot of people will need to do banking between 12pm-1pm. Especially when their bank isn't open before or after work. Regardless, the laundry money and friendly service will keep me coming back!

Why call when you can text, right? The same philosophy applies to my banking: why go into a brick and mortar to sort out my financials when I have an app for that? That said, sometimes there are things your fancy tablet app just can't do, so you have to make the effort to go in to the bank and come face to face with a teller. While this isn't my home-base Scotiabank, it is the one closest to my home, so is often the most convenient location. It has a few ATMs inside its lobby for after-hours or quick transactions, and a small but accomodating bank beyond that. It's definitely more a "hole in the wall" bank, as opposed to all those new shiny10-teller counter 2-story banks popping up around town. But it's clean, bright, and the tellers I've dealt with are always nice. I had a couple issues with my card last time, and the teller was able to help me out and helped me change my checking account type to something better suited to my needs. I appreciated her spelling everything out for me. Overall, it's a serviceable location.

Wasted trip driving all the way to ColeHarbour to go to a Scotiabank machine. There are very few locations in Dartmouth. Went to the location off Main street instead where all was ok.
