All in all, banks and I have no reason to be friends. This credit union is pretty much just like any other bank except in a nicer building. It looks all fancy with its grandiose columns which makes me pretty happy. If I have to go to a bank, it might as well be wrapped in Roman pomp. It also has a strange rule that you can slam your car into park basically on its front step if you're just running in to use the ATM. Along with the columns, this ends up making me feel all kinds if VIP...like la Lohan drunk-driving her coup right into the line-up at some LA hotspot. The staff on the inside includes multiple young bucks (nice to know that there are spots hiring new grads!) and plenty of folks who can cope with 'old person requests' much better than I ever could. I'd rather take 37 punches to the face than have to go fetch a lady crisper $20 bills for her grandson's birthday card, but I suppose that's why they work there and I don't. So in summary, Ben hates banks, this one is fancy enough to fool me into thinking I'm not just handing my money over to bills, and old people drive me crazy but are in good hands here.

They had a nice little display on campus during orientation, which was nice enough, but actually going in and setting up a membership was surprisingly less painful than I had expected. The place was under renovations at the time so it was a bit unorganized and not particularly pleasant to sit around in, but I was seen quickly, different staff came by to make sure I'd been looked after, which honestly got a bit obnoxious, but it was nice to know someone knew there was another living body in the room. Location isn't the greatest for people that are passing through downtown, but at the same time, neither are the other bank locations off Alderney.

It's one of Halifax's oldest buildings and just a beautiful representation of the architecture. There is the original brass fixtures everywhere. From the elevator doors, to the windows, to the safety deposit area's gate. It's all there in it's original glory. And as an added bonus, they were giving away free books of old advertising back in the early days of Halifax.

It turned up after two weeks. (somehow? I was never given an explanation) * I was consistently treated poorly whenever I required customer service based on being 19-20 years old at the time. Pretty inexcusable. Overall, HSBC has decent rates if you're the type of person who uses their debit card 5 times a day, but the customer service was poor enough to warrant me taking my business elsewhere.

Not all banks do, and when I am out running errands or in one of our wonderful brisk days, I really do appreciate the drive through. Also a lot of times, it is not easy to get parking to enter the bank, especially if it is only for a quick transaction. If you are using this ATM drive though, you enter off of RobieSt. It is a pretty tight turn at the end. There are also ATM's located in the front entrance of the bank of course.

This is my local RBC bank and since I've never had an account with another Bank then this one gets my accolades. It's within walking distance (+), it has indoor ATM machines (+), and the drive through is hardly being used so I'm rarely sucking up someone else's fumes waiting for my turn to take some of that cash out (+++ and most awesome during the cold mornings). Tellers have always been friendly when I come in and while I've had to wait quite a few minutes on the most busiest of days it doesn't take too long for me to get in and get out most of the time.

And when I walk up to a teller to do business here, the teller usually KNOWS MY NAME, and even asks about my family. When my Mom passed away, the teller heard about it and EXPRESSED HER CONDOLENCES. Can I just say how incredible I know that is, and how much I value that kind of personal interaction!? Everybody is friendly and they treat their customers with a level of personal service that goes above and beyond. Kudos to this branch for defying the faceless interaction that banking has become.

There was no line and I was in and out in no time flat. The service was prompt and friendly enough, and I appreciated that the tellers had chairs at their disposal, as having to stand all day at a counter isn't the most comfortable of situations. All in all, my little jaunt into the Credit Union was a pleasant experience indeed. It's nice to check out the different financial institutions around town, especially if you've been patronizing the same one for years.

In addition, this branch offers Saturday hours, which are important to working people. The staff are consistently pleasant and welcoming (well, except for this one chick who was a real piece of work). We always feel as though the staff are pleased to see us, and not that we're a disruption in their day. The Bank of Nova Scotia used to be a horrible example of customer service, but in recent years they've really cleaned up their act and have put an emphasis on how they treat their clients. Kudos to them for realizing where things went wrong, and for doing what they could to make things better.

Banking is not my strong suit. I'm a very basic bank kind of guy. So if anything is out of the ordinary I'm almost instantly at this branch asking a million annoying questions. The staff here is friendly and explain things in a way that this poor art student can understand. They have also gone out of their way to help me on several occasions. providing money conversions when they didn't technically have to and offering tips on how to access transferred money a little quicker. Convenient, friendly and offering the use of their atm's to PC Financial customers free of charge - CIBC is is a great bank.
