I actually have a feel good story about dealing with the bank. Unbelievable, I know, but I kid you not. I shared this story with Susan & Jay the other night at the Laide Lounge Yelp event and Susan said that I should share it in a review....so here goes....
We finally got to say bubbye to our mortgage (insert loud sigh of relief here) a little while back but had yet to sign off the official discharge at the bank. So much paper work! Anyway, finally made an appt. for 7:00 p.m. on the Friday night of the last long weekend and off we went. We put a couple of major bottles of champers on ice, blew a ton of cash at the Cheese Boutique and invited some friends to celebrate the burning of the mortgage papers right after we got back from the bank. So off we go....we were absolutely giddy.
So, we are waiting, waiting, waiting in the bank office and the young fella serving us informs us that since the mtg. was held in another branch he didn't have clearance to officially discharge it and that he was trying to find someone in another branch who could do it. It was now 7:45 p.m. and the bank was closing in 15 minutes. He profusely apologized and asked us if we could come back next week. Well I had a face on, similar to the one I get when I open my financial portfolios over the past year and got all mopey and cranky. My husband said lets just go home and we can still celebrate although officially we didn't have the papers. So we set off home.
Anyway, about ten minutes after I got home I was out in the front of the house and a VW pulls in to my driveway and I'm thinking who is this? The young guy from the bank gets out of the car and holds up the papers at me! I'm like what the hell? He tells me that he found someone in another branch at 7:55 p.m. who helped him out and that he felt really bad because he knew what a big deal it was for us so he decided to drive up to our house and bring us the paperwork. I was absolutely flabbergasted and over the moon at the same time. How cool was that? This is stuff commercials are made out of.
Anyway, I wrote the bank about this guy and then afterwards I dropped him off a thank you card. Talk about thoughtful service.
Let me tell you, life sans mortgage is a nice thing. read more
