They're quick to charge you fees and extend you credit when your credit is perfect but when it's not forget it. I've had a mortgage with them for over 13 years and always paid it on time. Now I've fallen on a temporary financial hardship they offer nothing for options or assistance other than reporting my payment as late to the credit bureau and ruining my credit. ***Urgent Warning for Borrowers -- Federal and State Agencies Investigating This Credit Union's…read moreLoan Practices*** If you're a borrower with this credit union -- especially with a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) -- you need to check your statements and pay attention. This institution is now under investigation by federal, state, and supervisory regulators for serious servicing misconduct. The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) has formally entered NHFCU into the Consumer Sentinel Network (CSN) -- a federal database used to track fraud, abuse, and violations across the financial system. This is not routine oversight. The CSN is operated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and is shared with: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) The Department of Justice (DOJ) The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) State Attorneys General and banking regulators The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Once an institution is in CSN, it becomes part of a multi-agency enforcement watchlist. That alone should tell you how serious this is. What Happened? This credit union unilaterally changed how HELOC payments were applied -- increasing interest, delaying principal reduction, and distorting amortization schedules -- all without notice or consent. When questioned, they: Refused to provide servicing records Ignored federal servicing error notices Dismissed borrower concerns And worst of all -- allowed the harm to continue compounding What You Can Do If you've experienced: -Unexplained changes in how your HELOC or other loans are applied -Missing disclosures -Stonewalling from compliance or servicing staff -Unexpected interest charges or payoff inconsistencies File a complaint immediately with the NCUA Request that it be entered into the Consumer Sentinel Network Submit a parallel complaint to the CFPB to ensure federal tracking Document every phone call, email, and discrepancy Why It Matters Regulatory investigations are ongoing -- but you don't have to wait for the outcome to pursue your own legal remedies. Regulatory oversight and civil enforcement operate independently. Every borrower who comes forward strengthens the case for systemic enforcement and accountability. This is not just a "bad experience" -- this is an institution that's been flagged at the federal level for practices that are now under multi-agency scrutiny. Borrowers: speak up. Protect your finances. File your complaints.

And, the people are always there to help; in fact last week the branch manager came out to help me. They also offer free checking and savings, with no minimum, and the interest rates on interest-bearing accounts are about equal to or better than other banks. Another plus is that they do a lot of things for the local community. This is the bank I recommend to others in the area looking for a banking relationship.

The staff has always been exceptionally friendly with me, and I've never had a single issue with them financially (which is saying a lot given my experiences at other small town banks). I definitely prefer using a more local bank to a National one, and RBT is a good one for sure. Interest rates are fair, if not generous, and they require no minimum balance for most of their account types. If you're just a simple human looking for simple banking like I was then RBT is definitely the way to go.
