I went to Thais for a haircut once. I have naturally curly hair that I always wear curly. Thais said she would use a dry cutting technique to get the best shape for naturally curly hair. The following is my honest experience of my visit to her salon.
The good bits:
- Thais is very friendly.
- Salon is nice.
- Online booking is convenient.
- Thais offers free 15-minute hair consultations to discuss your hair needs.
- Thais was happy to answer questions via email prior to the appointment.
The not-so-good bits:
- The shape of the cut was not good and it looks very weird. I am embarrassed by my hair now, and I have been trying to hide it since it was cut (7 weeks ago). The shape is weird and there are many long pieces sticking out of place that just look like they don't belong anywhere.
- One side of my hair was very noticeably longer than the other side, and Thais did not fix this when I pointed it out to her (I had to cut it myself at home).
- Prior to the haircut, Thais agreed that the length would be kept long enough for a ponytail (I was very clear that this was essential). She then proceeded to (without warning) cut my hair incredibly short - way too short for a ponytail (even 7 weeks later, I still cannot get the hair in a ponytail, so that gives an indication of how short it was cut).
- Thais' styling of my naturally curly hair (after the cut) left it extremely frizzy and without defined curls. I didn't visit Thais for styling (I just wanted a good cut), so this wasn't a major problem for me - I knew I could go home and fix the frizz easily with my normal hair routine.
- At the end of the appointment, Thais said she would follow up during the week to see how I was going. She never made any contact with me.
- Weeks later, I contacted Thais to express my disappointment in the whole experience. Thais said she would refund the full amount that I had paid (over $100). I received nothing. When I again followed up with her, she said she would now only refund half (which I have since received).
The bottom line:
- I am very disappointed in the whole experience, and I regret getting my hair cut by Thais. It is 7 weeks later, and I am still hiding my hair because of how it looks.
- Thais is very nice and friendly, but does not seem to realise the importance of doing what she says she is going to do. She did not keep the length when she said she would, she did not follow up when she said she would, and she did not provide a full refund when she said she would. This is completely unprofessional.
- I do realise that Thais has many good reviews from other clients. Unfortunately this did not match my own experience. I just wanted a good shape for naturally curly hair, but Thais was not able to provide this for me. The fact that she was very unprofessional in dealing with me after the haircut just makes the experience even worse. As a result, I cannot recommend Thais as a hairdresser. read more
