We got the poutine as an appetizer and it was great.Tender meat, great gravy, lots of cheese curds and fries they somehow keep crispy. Just be ready - it is huge. Could definitely be a large meal unto itself. The burger was cooked correctly and was very juicy and flavorful. The tater tots were very crunchy and well salted. Tons of them too. Finished it off with the buffalo chicken mac and cheese which was both temperature hot and spicy hot. Took home enough for the two of us to have a hearty meal. My husband and I have been to Tavern 519 about five times now. We go there for the short rib black and blue burger, which is absolutely out of this world. We went for my husband's birthday. He ordered the pork chop and said it was the best he's ever had in his life. He's had it twice now. This is how much we love this Hidden gem. I had filet mignon, which was also absolutely outstanding. This is worth traveling an hour to get to which we do a couple of times a month. I can't recommend it more highly. Since writing this review, my husband and I have been back to Tavern 519 three times. We' both had the burgers again and they were outstanding again. On one occasion, my husband ordered the pork chop which he said was the best he's ever had in his life! I ordered the filet mignon which came withbroccoli rabe. Nice spot! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Tried the prime rib poutine for appetizer and it was sooooo good! Got the regular burger but added caramelized onion cooked medium well with tots. I've been here several times. The food is always fresh and delicious. If you're not with a large party I highly recommend coming here, otherwise skip it. The service is always good and friendly. With that being said, my bf's company has had two Christmas parties here over the past several years. We are always a party of at least 10 people. I don't recommend big parties here, we found out the hard way they will kick you out after exactly 2 hrs whether you're finished or not. The first time we were all here I got up to use the bathroom. I came back a few minutes later and my dinner was taken away, the table cleaned along with my new drink I just got. I was in total shock and asked my bf where's my food and my new drink. He said they took everything away our 2 hrs was up. I chalked it up and went to the bar where everyone was standing and got another drink. This time,again it was another Christmas party.After dinner my bf's boss asked for a dessert menu, and he was told by our server sorry your two hours are up you can't have dessert. Everyone looked dumbfounded and abruptly got up and left and we all went somewhere else to have drinks and dessert. I know this place isn't real big but if they would book the parties differently say like 5-8, and then the next party 8-11 or reserve some of the other tables to accommodate both parties everyone would not feel rushed. It took over 1/2 hour for our appetizers to arrive, and then another 40 mins for our food. It's really not a lot of time for a large group. The other thing that bothered me was when we were walking out there was another group waiting and the woman pulled my friend and I over and said "oh you're the group just leaving?" and we said yes. She said,"well they just sent me a text," and she showed us the text. It read, we just kicked out the other group. Needless to say we were all shocked. This is no way to do business. I was told the Christmas Parties will be at a different restaurant from now on. Aside from that our food was delicious, and our servers were very nice. It was great we got a seat at the bar at 6:30 on a Friday night. Sat down got drinks in the first 10 minutes. Staff was busy but accommodating. Told the server we had a show to go to and had to be out the door at 7:45 when we ordered food at 6:45. Bartender did say "good luck with that." Everything we got was delicious BUT... it came out around 7:35 (50 minutes later.) we had literally 10 minutes to split a Caesar salad & a $80 20 oz ribeye. Had to rush thru dinner & never had time to enjoy our meal. I would go back but I didn't know it takes 50 minutes to prepare my meal. Small tavern on the outskirts of Frenchtown. Happy staff and good food. Local beers including the 519 hazy IPA which was made for them in Flemington and went down very well. Dry martini made well. Poutine with tots and a short rib mushroom gravy was very good. Pepperoni special pizza is typical of a bar pie rather than a traditional pizza but the crust was crispy which was good. read more

Wow. First time here. Wont be the last. Sorry locals but somebody needs to spread the word. This is awesome high end food served in the most low key out of the way place. We had poutine to start, awesome and a huge portion. Then it was the pork chop with sweet potato hash. Best softest pork chop you will ever have. My wife got the pork belly pasta. Another wow! Just awesome tasting and another huge portion. The maple old fashioned was awesome and really strong. They dont cut corners here. Best to make reservations as it gets filled up fast. Very good food and it's high dollar. It is a very small restaurant with only one unisex bathroom. If you have to wait for a table, you get to stand very close to people sitting at a table which is not very private for those folks at all. Also, worse of all, beware of the extra charge on the bill which ALWAYS assumes that you are paying by credit card. Always recheck your bill. read more

Really happy to have stumbled upon this gem while searching for a restaurant in Frenchtown. We were in the area celebrating our anniversary, it was our first date night in a year and we haven't been indoor dining since the pandemic. They really took good precautions, we felt safe. The servers and staff were all very nice, attentive, top notch service. Lots of parking, easy to get to. The drinks were delicious, it felt great to have a cocktail out! The food was very yummy! I've gone to the tavern for a few years now. It's somewhat frustrating to be told that you have a 1.5 hr seating maximum. We ordered a second round of expensive cocktails and were told half way through finishing them that we had to get up from the table. The one waitress that often serves us is impatient and rushes you when ordering, speaks over you and is not attentive. Last week we had dinner there and the restaurant was very warm. The A/C seems to only work near the bar. For the prices of the entrees and drinks, I think you could find something better. read more

We came once before and had an awesome young server who made the experience great! However on our 2nd attempt (where we were excited to go back) we got an older server who was clearly less then thrilled with her job and left us never wanting to return. With some food allergies things can be difficult however this server basically...no she DID tell me the chef would just send out whatever he felt like. No discussion. Considering I'm having my gallbladder removed tomorrow fries would NOT have been my choice but they didn't leave room for discussion. We will NEVER go back as service was terrible the 2nd time and I'd never want to risk getting stuck with the server we had ever again. She was terrible. Sorry to say, but we had a bad experience there. We walked in and it smelled of sewage. We almost walked out but we were hungry so we stayed. The meal was ok but at the end the waitress said we had ten minutes to leave because the table was reserved; which we were never told when we sat down. So, ok, we were nearly done, but honestly I was a little taken aback. When we gave her the check, 8 minutes in to our "ten" I swear, she told us we had to leave immediately; as in no way no how do we have the chance to swallow the last bit of beer in our glass. Mind you, I have never been told that anywhere. And, as I looked around, I saw no one waiting. She was very knowledgeable, gave great suggestions and we never waited for as much as a drink! Started with the special of fried mozzarella, it was some of the best I've ever had.
