Located in Annankatu it is easy to reach from anywhere in the city center. Upstairs you can hang out with your friends and a cold beer from the tap. My…read morefirst time at Molly Malone's, I was staying just around the corner which made this Irish pub a solid base of operations for my exploration of Helsinki. It is your basic Irish pub with few frills, but the cider is a nice break from your average Helsinki beverage. Prices are reasonable, and the bar is very clean which may contribute to a less authentic feel. My first time at Molly Malone's I recall that my bartender was really annoyed with some of the bar's Russian clientele. Ok, maybe a group of drunken Russian's singing songs of the motherland was like nails on a chalk board to an Irishman, but I had great time that afternoon and couldn't wish for anything better. Several years later, I found Molly Malone's to be the same safe haven I had experienced so long ago. The only difference this time is that I wasn't staying in Helsinki so my stay was unfortunately brief. Still a cold pint of Ireland's finest is always good when you can get it.

If I recall, the live music is upstairs every night, but didn't check it out this particular night. There's also a terrace to the courtyard side, but I didn't try to visit so not sure if its open this time of year. Just popped in for a few quick Guinness pints. Great pour and settle by the barkeep! Efficient and friendly staff. Fun fact: I've also been to this pub's sister, The Brazen Head in Dublin. Worth checking out if you're ever there :) There's currently some construction going on to the outside of the building, so be aware if you're having trouble finding it.

What to do during a 14-hour layover in Helsinki?…read more Party, obviously! I headed straight to club from the airport. Apollo seemed like a very popular place among locals to party since I met a girl on the airport bus who also had friends that were going, and who ended up going there with me! The 10€ cover charge was annoying, but the venue is huge with separate areas for a lounge, a big dance floor, balcony area, and even a stage. On the Saturday night that I was there, I swore the DJ was playing remixes of Top 40s songs, but I eventually made my way to the stage and discovered that it was actually a live band! (I guess that's why they call it Apollo Live Club...) I would have never guessed it was live music judging by the sound quality. Very impressive; and it made me feel better about the cover seeing that I paid for both a party and a show! Top 40s continued to play after the band was done. The crowd continued to have a great vibe, and I had a great time during my brief stay partying with the Finns! Kippis!

The place is an old theater turned into a night club and has both indoor & outdoor seating. The music at first was a dj playing american music such as pit bull. Around midnight a swedish band came on and played all 80-90's American jams. The drinks were reasonably priced and the crowd was of all shapes and colors - lots of dancing. Light Show is also very decent. The sound system however is not the best and the quality of the music is not as good as it could be. (problems with high Sounds) The staff is friendly and you usually don't have to stand in line for long. The crowd on the other hand is not my favourite. They appeared to me as regular party people who go into the club to get wasted and/or laid. The music is hardly appreciated and dancing to techno doesn't seem to be established yet since everyone was just swaying from right to left or shaking their body off beat like a spaghetti fearing for its life. The invited DJs are still good and with the right kind of friends it's probably a lot of fun. Just don't expect expressive dancers.
