Excellent care at Tatum Dentistry - Emilie did my regularly scheduled cleaning and results are amazing! She is competent and professional! Emilie suggested I have a scan of my teeth (not yet due for upgraded XRay) and fortunately found I have an infection that needed treatment ASAP. Made an appointment here after they won Best of Charleston, as I'd been looking for a new dentist in Charleston for a while now. I was a little apprehensive, as I've been seeing the same dentist in Greenville since like 1997, but the staff at Dr. Tatum's office was awesome. From the moment I walked in the door, everyone was super friendly and nice. My dental hygienist was hilarious and talked and joked with me the whole time. We shared pics of our pets with each other and she took all of my anxiety about going to the dentist completely away. She made sure to ask me if I was comfortable a number of times during my visit and asked me lots of question about my habits so that she could make a more informed recommendation to me. She recommended that I get a sonicare toothbrush (but didn't offer to sell me one, contrary to the review who said they were pushy with sales) she said "smart phone, smart life. Why use a dumb toothbrush?!" which I thought was cute and funny. Before I left she showed me different ways to brush to make sure I was getting the most out of my brushing habit, regardless of what toothbrush I used. Dr. Tatum was warm and friendly and talked me through everything she saw on the X-rays and why she was recommending what she did. All in all, I think I made an excellent choice with Dr. Tatum, and I highly recommend her! read more

The dental hygienist was an absolute gem, she was so nice, great attitude, and it safe to say my teeth feel cleaner than They have in an a long time. If you're looking for a friendly, knowledgeable, convenient location in downtown Charleston for dental work, I can recommend these guys highly. Had a dental emergency while my mother was at MUSC recently and after talking with her surgeon who recommended this office I walked down for my appointment which I got immediately for the day. The staff were more than helpful they also kept me from seeing a specialist that would have charged me a lot of money for what I already knew needed to be done.. Dr. Granger and Dr. Tatum are great dentists! They offer nitrous gas for conscious sedation during procedures which was my primary reason for switching dentists after moving to Charleston, and they take great care to make sure you're comfortable and well-informed. They also offer state-of-the-art 3D dental scanning which produces a realistic computer rendering of your mouth for analyzing your bite and tooth alignment. They offer Invisalign services using this technology so it saved me from having to find a new orthodontist! They will accept/file your insurance and make all the normal issue with going to the dentist much easier. I'd highly recommend checking them out. read more

Never go to this dentist. I went for a consultation on a broken tooth. Dr. Tatum insisted on fixing it right then, claiming she wouldn't charge me. At first pleased with my services, I made an appointment for a cleaning. Within 3 hours, the work that was done broke and made my tooth even more chipped that before I entered the office. Needless to say that I cancelled my appointment for cleaning and then was pressured into making another one (the receptionist made the appointment for me). When I did not show up, I received a bill of $75 DOLLARS for No-Show. They say that there is an acknowledgement in their paper work, but it is very small and admist the insurance information. As a college graduate who works in contractual agreements daily, I didn't even notice this clause. Now I'm stuck paying for crappy service that I didn't even go to. Unless you want to get scammed, don't go here. It seems they are taking advantage of their popularity by making sure they get money whether patients want to come here or not. read more

Dr Tatum was my dentist many years ago. Unfortunately, a distant move made me have to switch dentists. I recently wanted a second opinion for some dental work my current dentist and periodontist were recommending. I called up dr Tatum's office to schedule the second opinion and it was like I had never left. Rob knew exactly who I was, and got me into Dr Tatum at a time that was convenient for me. I really cannot say enough nice things about this practice. I miss them all dearly. Dr Tatum was kind enough to find me specialist near where I live and both followed up by mid morning the next day. After 11 years of having Dr Tatum's office take care of my smile, she never ceases to amaze. I was up for my Panorex X-Rays the other day, and during the process I realized she had upgraded her machine to provide 3D imaging of my mouth. 3d imagery provides an even more detailed view of your mouth / teeth. It's truly amazing how dentistry continues to evolve, probably even faster than modern medicine. It's important that you see a dentist who spares no expense in investing in the most advanced equipment for their patients to provide the best care. My experience (and my family's experience) has been the exact OPPOSITE of what the previous reviewer wrote. Case Study #1: I went in complaining of my teeth being crooked and asked HER about invisalign. Not only was she not pushy, she tried to convince me that it wasn't entirely necessary. I am self-admittedly vain and a perfectionist, so I told her I wanted it anyway. And I have LOVED the results. Case Study #2: My Dad needed a lot of restoration work done. He was skeptical about investing the money in himself and his smile. Now? He is smiling, I mean really smiling (not the closed-mouth type of smiling that people do when they are embarrassed about their teeth) for the first time in his life. Dr. Tatum presented a VERY moderate and practical approach to his restoration. As a result of her conservative approach, and how much he loved the results, he ended up having his entire mouth done. Case Study #3: My mom became so jealous of me and my Dad's gorgeous smiles, that she just started Invisalign. A 64-year-old woman who never had braces. Enough said. read more
