I love the whole team at Water's Edge Dentistry. I was searching for a new dentist a few years back because I felt like just a number at the practice my family had been going to for years. I did some research and found Dr. Dahlkemper and decided to give her a try. The office atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The staff is friendly and personable. My teenage son was born without one of his front teeth and Dr. Dahlkemper and her team have done a fantastic job of making him a bridge that looks very good. The hygienists are very thorough but gentle and they always take their time. There is no rush and yet I don't believe I've every waited more than 5 minutes for my appointment. Listen... I hate...absolutely hate going to the dentist. I don't want you to touch anything in my mouth, I don't want to hear the dentist noises, I hate the cold air blower thing... I mean, dentistry is a necessary form of modern day torture right? As an adult I have cried and excused myself to go to the bathroom multiple times just to get away for a minute... I may be the worst patient ever, although I've never hurt anyone yet... those poor trusting souls putting their hands in peoples mouths. I've been to a few dentists in Charleston, but Water's Edge is where I'm landing. Dr. D and Heather were the two that I saw on my last visit, which off the top of my head I think is my third or fourth visit. They are unbelievably understanding... I never feel like they are frustrated or annoyed with me (it's happened before at other places... I get why, but I really can't help it... I legitimately hate/have anxiety with the dental experience). Knowing that they'll work with me and won't force me to just deal with it (also happened before) gives me a lot more confidence going in... I know I can stop the process and communicate if something doesn't feel right or hurts. My most recent visit was to get a cavity filled. I usually do the laughing gas for this, but they said that because it was an upper, no doubt they could get it numb and I would be fine. I trust them, so I was up for trying and saving myself $70 ish dollars. They were right. When the cold was bothering some of my other teeth, Heather came up with a creative little way to block it without having to numb the other teeth. Overall, I walked out feeling like I just accomplished some major feat... and maybe, just maybe they won't make fun of me when I leave... I feel like I just earned a star or something...when we all know it's Dr. D and Heather that really deserve the star. If you're looking for somewhere that is on top of dentistry (you can see all their awards etc. Dr. D is like a dentist rock star), will work with you if you're not exactly a fan of being a dental patient, this could be a really great option for you. Also... if you're reading this and decide to choose it, put me as a reference! I think I get like a $25 kickback... saving up for that next stash of laughing gas! :) Hahahaha. read more

I had my teeth cleaned today and they feel great! The staff and Dr. D were fabulous. The cleaning took a little longer that I anticipated but they were very thorough. They have a laser and really good equipment. They also have a price list at the end to let you know ahead of time how much fillings and other procedures cost. They show you how much your insurance pays so you are not surprised afterwards. I highly recommend Water's Edge. read more

Wow. Really blown away. Had a day off and wanted to get into the dentist for an exam (and possible cleaning). Read some amazing reviews about W.E.D. and decided to call (they're in-network w/ my dental insurance). Long story short, they got me in THAT DAY (had a cancellation). Angela (hygienist) was AWESOME. Did exam. Used voice recognition software. Did X rays. Took INDIVIDUAL pictures of each tooth (both sides) with a little hand held camera thing. We talked holistic dentistry. Electric rotating toothbrushes, dental probiotics, flossing (of course), fluoride free toothpaste (recommended one w/ neem in it!), palate expansion, etc etc. And then Dr. D came in and had a great convo w/ her too! I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the BEST experience I've ever had at the dentist's office. They gave me a sound dental plan moving forward, some referrals (for a tooth I need extracted).... just top notch! Would give 6 stars if I could. read more
