All three of my tattoos have been done by Guf. My first two were done a long time ago, back when Guf was still at Ace Tattoo. My most recent was done at Tattoo Royale. For all three of my tattoos, I went to Guf with a very vague idea of what I wanted. He worked with me to draw up something that turned out to be better than what I had imagined. He continued working with me to make slight tweaks, right up to the point when he turned the needle on. *gulp* I have three tattoos, but still, the sound of that needle sets my heart to racing. Guf really is very talented. His artistic ability is undeniable, and his ability to take your idea and turn it into something you're proud to display is one of the reasons I go back to him over and over. My husband has gotten one tattoo from Guf, and one (huge!) one from Droopy. He was going to go to Guf again, but after seeing Droopy's work, decided that he'd be the best artist for this particular tattoo. Both Droopy and Milton are also very talented (neither of us have gone to Milton yet, but I've seen his work over the many visits to the shop, and he's good, too!) The guys are friendly and take the time to make sure the tattoo is right. Plus, they've got good taste in music, which is nice when you're in the shop for a couple hours at a time. ;) Parking can be a huge bitch, since it's street parking, but we've never had a problem. I've had to go out and move the car up or back in inch or two to bust up the markings on my tire, but that's about the worst of it. read more

I got my first tattoo recently and am later in life. My sister had gotten one earlier at Tattoo Royale and was very happy with Droopy and his work. It took a bit of courage, but Droopy was very easy to work with and did a great job on just what I wanted. The shop is very clean and professional. Highly recommend them for someone wanting a tattoo. read more

My wife and I were visiting San Diego from out of state. We searched for tattoo shops around the area and this shop was one of the few that had high ratings. I booked a free consultation online and met with the artist Droopy. We asked if we could be squeezed in same say which Droopy made it a point to help us out. Both my wife and I got work done same day and they turned out amazing. Tattoo Royal and the artists are worth it and made us feel welcome. Will definitely come back and recommend to others! read more

i have been following Guf's work since his days at Ace ...he is one of the most reputable tattoo artists in SD. Guf is professional, listens to what you want and executes beyond expectations! there have been times that (i have been to other artists and i just felt as if they were creepy)...not here. Guf is a gentleman and his only goal is to do the best tattoo that he can. His work is amazing! I heard that before he started to tattoo that he did other professional artwork, like designing skateboards. Guf is my first choice when it comes to tattoo's. read more

I recently went in to Tattoo Royale for my latest tattoo. I brought in a general idea of what I wanted and Droopy did the rest! When I came in for the appointment the drawing was exactly what I wanted and yet couldn't articulate. It was incredible! My sitting was a little over two hours and I am beyond pleased with the end result. It was my third tattoo and it is by far my favorite. I receive tons of compliments on it. While I love my other work this one is so detailed. Droopy is the man! I am planning out a huge piece to start on soon and I can't imagine going anywhere else other than back to Tattoo Royale! The artwork is incredible and the staff is awesome. Definitely make an appointment. While they accept walk-ins you're much better setting the appointment to make sure what you are getting tattooed PERMANENTLY is exactly what you want! read more

Wanted to find a place for my first tattoo and Tattoo Royale was recommended to me by a friend and they definitely delivered. Met with Milton on Wednesday to discuss my design briefly and schedule an appointment. Walked in Sunday nervous but the atmosphere and Milton answering any of my questions helped calm the nerves. We went over sketches and revisions (sorry Milton) and finally settled on design, size, and placement. After everything was done, Milton gave me an aftercare directional sheet which I greatly appreciated, since I had no idea what I was doing. Truly professional service. You better believe that I'll be back for my next tattoo. read more

I've been coming here since the place opened. Before that, I was getting tattooed by Guf, the owner, for several years. The quality of the artwork and tattoo work coming out of this shop is unparalleled. There are three artists working and they are the same artists who have been here since the doors first opened. All three artists are extremely talented as will become evident when you notice all of the paintings, sculptures, custom resin castings and airbrushed pieces that are on display, among other things (people make special trips to come admire and purchase these items as well). These guys really know their stuff. They are masters of their craft and I can guaranty anyone who goes under the needle at this shop that they will never want to go anywhere again. Tips: - This shop is very clean - Larger pieces are done by appointment. - They take walk-ins for smaller stuff when they're able. - Rates are very reasonable. - Staff is friendly and approachable. - Very nice location in Pacific Beach - No weirdoes/hoodlums hanging around read more

Droopy is the man... he tells it how it is. I strongly recommend an appointment as walk-ins are not the best way to go... and to be quite frank... It's a tattoo... It's permanent... I think it's worth the tiny bit of planning to respect their schedule. In general this is one of the cleanest shops you will find. I recommend it to anyone looking for good ink. read more

Guf is the STUF!!!! Hes the best. Always on time. Awesome artist. Awesome color. I couldnt imagine anyone else doing my tattoos because they are awesome. The only complaint i have is that everywhere i go i have to stop and let people check out my arm and make small talk with them and explain what my tattoos mean to me. But thats what happens when u have the worlds best tattoos. Tattoo Royale RULES!!!!! The pricing is the best I have ever found. They dont rip u off or start charging u the second u walk in. Theyre not all coked out, hung over or comimg down from a binge-er. Good guys, full of talent, knowledgeable, educated human beings. :) read more

My tattoo shop for life. I've been going to Milton for the past 6 years. All of the artists are amazing, but he's the man for sure. Super professional and clean. Every time I give Milton an idea, he comes up with something amazing. His prices are super reasonable and he's just an effin awesome guy. Always good music on too! :D I've been to other shops. Either they are too cocky or too expensive. You won't be disappointed! read more

This is by far the best tattoo parlor I've EVER been to. Guf is the most amazing artist. He did my boyfriends half sleeve and at first I didn't like the design my boyfriend chose, but after the second session I could not stop staring. It is the most intricate and well done tattoo I've ever seen. You'll have to make an appointment because the artists here are so great they are usually booked up. But if you're going to have a tattoo on your body for the REST of your life, you want perfection. Go here to get it. read more

Amazing! My friend and I went in here for tattoos over Thanksgiving weekend. We called the day before to make an appointment and had no trouble scheduling it. I got a small music note behind my ear from Milton and my friend got a doodle I created from Guf. Both guys couldn't have been nicer or better about explaining things. The studio was spotless, they were both quick, and the pricing was completely comparable to the work done. Couldn't be happier with my new tat or the studio. Me and my friend will definitely be back soon to get some more work done!! read more

Milton for president! My husband had some work done by Milton and when it came time for me to FINALLY get my coverup this is where I went. I had an idea in my mind of what I wanted and took in some pictures to Milton that I thought represented my vision. At my consultation Milton seemed like he understood what I wanted, but said he would sketch up something and call me to come see if I liked it. I left there thinking I'd have to come in a few times until we got it the way I wanted my tattoo to look. WRONG! Milton got that shit on the first try! My husband and I were in awe at his sketch. How did he do that? I will never know. Anyways, a few sessions later and my old tattoo is gone and I now I have an art piece that I am beyond proud to wear. Milton is all business and a very talented man. I highly recommend him if you are looking for something you'll be proud of. Tattoo Royale is clean and professional. Call ahead and make an appointment because walk-ins are not taken here. read more

Amazing artists that I followed over from when they were at Ace. Milton has been my guy over the past decade and was sad he retired. Got my latest from Guf and he did not disappoint. Great work! All of them are very talented and keep everything thing clean and professional. Always check to see how I'm doing, provide clear after care instructions. Always the place for me and my ink. read more

I've been getting tattooed by Guf for nearly 15 years. He always draws my ideas better than I pictured them in my head. Totally friendly shop. No rock star attitudes in this shop. I would trust any if the 3 artists here to tattoo me. I've sent a dozen or more people to these guys. See you soon for a full back piece. Can't wait! read more

Tattoo Royale - Some oil fields to finish off my arms. - Tattoo Near Me - San Diego, California

I cannot recommend this place enough. There are a lot of tattoo places to choose from in San Diego, but it's hard to imagine there are better ones than Tattoo Royle and Guf out there. I brought some blurry photos to Guf, explained my vague idea, and left the rest to Guf. The result is beyond expectation. In guf/Tattoo Royale I found professional expertise, artistic sensibility, great attitude, as well as a reasonable price. Guf takes great pride in his work and is such a perfectionist. I got some letters and a portrait done. There was very little bleeding. The letters are beautiful and crisp, and the portrait--let's just say it was mesmerizing to watch him work, blending different colors, putting in shadows, highlights--it was like watching it coming alive. read more

I love this shop and the talented artists that own it. Guf has been my tattoo artist for over 10 years and as long as he tattoos, he will be the only artist I continue to go to. The best thing I love about Guf is his unbelievable ability to free hand a thought or idea I'm thinking about but not sure how I want it to look. His work is clean, crisp, colorful, and original. The shop itself is a true art gallery with beautiful art from all three of the artists/owners. The shop itself is spotlessly clean and the environment is both professional and friendly. I can't wait for next tattoo with Guf! read more

This is the best place to get more ink. Both of my tattoos were done by Droopy and I plan to get more. The level of professionalism and expertise is beyond excellent. I had an idea of what I wanted both times, but was unable to truly articulate in writing. However, Droopy designed exactly what I wanted. I couldn't be happier. read more

I live 400 miles north of San Diego, but I called in and scheduled an appt because I was going to visit. I gave droopy my ideas as to what I wanted and by the time I got to San Diego for my appt he already had an amazing drawing to my specific needs. The end result was an amazing piece of art that I can live with happily the rest of my life. I'll be hitting you up again droopy for some more ink in the near future! Thanks again! read more

Droopy is the man, quick and clean. I am very satisfied with the results. Highly recommended.

Guf is fantastic!! Honestly, I can't say enough good thngs about him. I had an existing tattoo on my side, that i just wasn't as excited about as i used to be. I didn't have any ideas on what i wanted to do to spice it up, and he said ok, lets see what i come up with. He drew out a couple of ideas, and i told him what i liked about each one and he took what i liked and pieced them all together. The day of my apt. he drew it out on my side and we started. I sat for about 4.5 hours, but it really wasn't that bad. He was personable and the conversation wasnt forced. He is a serious artist, and an all around nice guy. Thanks Guf!! read more

I was referred to Guf through family friends... he is such a great artist! I e-mailed him a few pictures of some ideas I had and he drew something up for me. He has such a gentle hand and is so professional. Since my tat is over my rib area, he cut up a brand new t-shirt he had their in the shop and had me wear it so I wouldn't "expose" myself. It took about 2 1/2 hours for him to finish the tat but he let me get up and stretch a couple times since I had to be in the same position the whole time. Tip: Book your appointment well in advance because they are always very busy. read more

I'm wearing a 1/2 sleeve of Guf's work, and to this day (and many tattoos later) it is still my favorite, and the best artwork. Whenever I go into another shop or meet an artist, I ALWAYS am asked who did the 1/2 sleeve and they are always impressed. He is the best, and someone I've traveled back for another piece. You absolutely can not go wrong with Guf. read more

Met Guf 3 years ago in OB. Found him here at this place. We love Guf! Great artist and a great person!! Tats look AWESOME!

Droopy your the man! No more tatts out of your bathroom in Mission Beach?

I went to Milton to get an old tattoo mistake redone, he did an amazing job and was super nice. Ill be going back many more times!

These guys are a few of THE best tattooers in SD. I'm positive I will get work done by each one. In the past couple years Milton did my side piece, tattooed my Dad when I graduated from SDSU and my cousin visiting from Scotland. Guff is working on an amazing LOTR sleeve for my boyfriend and I hope to have him start my chest piece asap. They are all responsible for flawless work on everyone I know. I love them and will keep going back for years :] read more

Guf is a great artist. I brought him a drawing I had made that I wanted him to alter (make better) and then do on the back of my neck. I absolutely love my tattoo, and the color is quite vibrant. You usually need to make an appointment at least a few weeks ahead for Guf, but I think that's probably a good thing. read more

DROOPY IS A TRUE PROFESSIONAL AND GREAT ARTIST. Shopped around for my first tattoo in Aug. 2009. I'm 40 and a professional, so I was looking for something outside the norm. Settled on a bunny on an old-fashioned pennyfarth bike. One artist pretty much looked at me like I was stupid. Another said 'sure man' but couldn't get the sketch down - wasn't even close. Droopy listened to what I wanted and nailed it the first time. I was nervous about doing it but finally said WTF and there I was, in Droopy's chair. He completed the tat quickly and absolutely nailed the design I was looking for, including subtle effects like the eyes and intricate shading. He was cooperative and collaborative on the pre-ink iterations. I HIGHLY recommend Tattoo Royale, and especially Droopy, to anyone looking for an excellent tattoo. read more

I live in Seattle and will not go anywhere else. Seeing Droopy is worth the 1200 mile trip. Droopy has given me tattoos for over 15 years and the arm piece he did on my last visit is awesome. I showed him a picture of my bike on my phone and he blew it out of the park. My wife got one also while i was getting mine. All 3 artist are great. read more

This is the 6th shop I've been tattooed at in PB and by far the best. I heard about Droopy a while back and decided to have him work my sleeve. He worked great with my ideas and also suggested things I would never have thought of. He made the rest of my arm match perfectly with my upper sleeve which I already had. Good rates and availability, clean and comfortable environment, and awesome artwork. The other guys were doing some sick work too when i was in there. I will get all future work done there for sure. Thanks Droopy read more

Very clean and professional. All the artists are very talented. Been getting tattooed by Milton for 10 years now. Highly recommend
