Tattoo Ranch is located in the Fort Worth Stockyard Exchange.... they used to be off the main street (W Exchange Avenue), however they moved a block up the street on the corner of W Exchange Avenue and N Houston Street. While visiting Dallas I walked into two other tattoo shops before coming here. I'm not gonna mention the other over priced, under quality shops that I visited but.... when I walked into this place, I felt comfortable. There was another couple being serviced before me and another guy already getting his tattoo done... so I waited about 30 minutes. Which I didn't mind because I didn't have an appointment to begin with. Besides, they have a pool table and there are shops that sell beer around the corner that kept me occupied while I waited. Their shop is big and they have a lot of cool stuff in there. They had a coffin table, some interesting wall decors, taxidermized snakes, etc. When it was my turn to be serviced, I was welcomed in. Ugh, I can't remember my tattoo guys name but I told him exactly what I wanted, where I wanted it and that I didn't want to miss the Longhorns parade. No pressure right? Anyway, he kept his word and held up to my expectations!!! On top of that, he quoted me a reasonable price. The other tattoo shops were asking $300 to $500 for a small piece (see photo)!!! This ain't my first tattoo.....not sure why the other tattoo shops were asking that much, could be because I was a walk in?? It's been a couple of weeks since I got my tattoo and it has healed up nicely. The lines were smooth and I didn't miss the Longhorn parade. Can't wait till I visit Texas again to get my next Texas themed tattoo from here. From experience, when I go to a tattoo shop I mainly look if their tattoo shop is clean, sanitized and show an expression of their art. If their pricing matches up to their skills and line work. I don't expect these artistic dudes to provide me with customer service with a smile.... just a side note when looking for a tattoo shop/artist. read more

I came here in January to get a small and simple rib tattoo, after I got it done I was excessively bleeding from how heavy of a hand my artist had. Externally overpriced but I still tipped. Overtime I did just what my artist said to do for the healing process and my tattoo was extremely blurry. I figured it would heal over time but it didn't. It looks terrible but my artist handled it very professionally, I got a full refund and he said he would fix it for free. read more

Let me start by saying I absolutely love love love the inside! The big crocodile on the ground caught my eye cuz it's massive and basically amazing! The big stuffed bear by the window is oh so cool. Tonight was one of those, "What do you want to do tonight? Get a tattoo." and decided to try a new place. I parked right across the street from Pinkies, so pretty close to the shop. Very nice down to earth people. They're informative, caring, and quite social. They were happy and seem very genuine. It's a CASH only place, so come prepared. There is an atm inside which is convenient if you forget. BUT yeah they definitely are overpriced than most places and attention to detail lacks slightly if I'm being totally honest. There is no question that it's such a cool looking place though. It's a must see if your strolling around the Stock yards next time. Unfortunately I left my first review of this place too early in the game, it was legit after I left the place, I remember someone saying a guy named Shaun did my tattoo and he left me his number and he was very helpful and said he would've redone my tattoo for free because it had scarred and the ink started coming off, but in my situation I'm active duty military and had no time for it and when I came into town another time they said to come back and yet again I had to leave to go back to my duty station. I don't know who is at fault but to be quite honest it was very stressful thinking it almost became infected. It is fine now and I had it redone by another guy who has done most my other work. Nothing but GREAT things to say about this place! My husband and I had been in a few few times before just to look around and get ideas for what we wanted to do "one day." Well that day arrived on New Year's Day... it was a cold, rainy evening and we didn't feel like going to see a movie so we thought why the hell not and went in to finally get some ink. Granted, it was a slow night but still the receptionist/manager, Erica, was very patient in answering all our questions. She called out our would-be artist, Eric, and he also spent a lot of time talking with us not just about the tattoos we wanted but just shooting the breeze and making us feel very at ease. We were the ONLY people there in the lobby so I know this wouldn't be the case every single time, but it was perfect for our first time. My husband and I are sooo not the "typical" clients they might have...which I KNOW there is no such thing as typical really, but let's just say we don't scream "tattoo shop patrons" to the average passerby. I say that to say the tone of this place for the uninitiated could be a little overwhelming, but they were VERY good about putting us at ease immediately. In other words, they do not think they are too cool for school, nor did they make us feel like we had picked the wrong place to walk into, if that makes sense. My husband and I were very happy with the work, the service and the prices for our tattoos. SOOO happy that we went back for another tattoo (for each of us) two nights later. That was a Saturday so it was a lot busier, but I was still very happy with the service and we didn't have to wait too long to be seen. The lobby has a very cool vibe though with comfy sofas. Also, there are plenty of bars next door and across the street so if you had to leave while waiting, they will call you when it's your turn. It has been a week since out first and they have healed very nicely. No issues whatsoever. Also, the place and the artist were very clean, hygienic and sanitary. All the needles are single use and I personally saw the level of sanitization that occurred between my husband's tattoo and mine. I have no concerns- and I am a bit of a clean freak so that is a big endorsement all on it's own. And we are already planning our next visit. They have created life-long customers. By the way, we had "Little Eric" as our artist, who is not to be confused with "Big Eric." Haha! Nothing against Big Eric, but Little Eric is the artist we can (and DO!) highly vouch for. read more

A tattoo "parlor" sounds a bit more fancy than a tattoo "shop" and that is exactly what I use to describe this place: a tattoo PARLOR. The place has swagger. A Willie Nelson-esque swagger. I must admit, I always feel a little intimidated when walking into a tattoo place. I think it's because I'm lacking that "edgy" look so I often feel like a big nerd, with my measly little heart tattoo, waltzing into places like this. However, I can honestly say that walking into Tattoo Ranch has never made me feel that way! I have always felt comfortable walking in there. The decor inside is nicely done -- you can tell the owner has some good taste, style, & nice artistry skills. The lights aren't overwhelmingly bright and the walls aren't a boring white. (Hey, that rhymed.) You won't walk in to find wall mounts with poster-sized sheets of a million tattoo drawings. Most importantly, the staff is great and the place is clean. The girl working the front counter (Jamie, I think?) was very nice and professional, and the tattoo artists were super friendly & helpful as well. Clay, the artist who did my tattoo, dutifully drew out several different versions of the tattoo I wanted, and I chose which one I liked the best. He didn't rush things, was thorough in the application of the tattoo, and also provided all the necessary information regarding the after-care of my tattoo. All in all, I would say this is the best & nicest tattoo parlor I have been to in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. read more

It was Valentines Day and my husband and I decided to finally get our tattoos. We had an idea and needed help work it out and get it on paper. Let me start by saying that I had a similar issue as Amanda below did. I had a hard time getting the shop to do the tattoo I wanted, as small as I wanted. My mom and I both wanted the Texas Star with the braid around it. They said it would have to be A LOT larger than the wrist area so we went back to the drawling board. I had something else in mind for the past few years so I fell back on that, an African symbol that means "No Worries". The design its self is not very large, or thick however they said again, that they couldnt get the detail if much smaller. I went ahead anyway and I do like the tattoo however due to having other tattoos, I know that they could have done it smaller. Not sure if its because they see themselves as "true tattoo artist" and dont want to do small, dainty tattoos or if their artist dont do well with smaller details.... The reason I throw in that last part is because on both my mom and I's tattoos, now that they have healed we can tell the artist didnt fully fill in the tattoos in some spots and even strayed outside of the lines a bit! One great note on the experience is that everyone was friendly. Our tattoo artist made the pain seem like an non issue and was good at keeping your mind off of it. Brent said he would love to do a custom piece for me. Told him what I wanted and excitedly he said he would start drawing it that night and have it ready next day. Gave him $100, shook hands and felt good about it. Next day I texted him and asked how it was coming. He replied, sorry, couldn't get to it last night nor Sunday but would work on it and have it ready by Wed. and claimed he was open all day Wed. (all this is by text and saved). Wed comes and I try to nail down a time on a day he said he had wide open. Brent says, sorry don't want to rush it and it wasn't done. ??? OK, are we still on for today? I'll finish it up and get you in. Bring cash he says. OK, how much? $160 per hour (seemed a little steep but OK). He'll be in touch with me shortly on a time. 4 hours goes by and I text him back that I pulled $700 out for 1st session, when can I get in? His response: "I'm the only tattooer that showed up today so I have been dealing with the walk in's so I'm not as far as I wanted to be on the drawing. So I will probably just draw the clouds right on your arm" Seriously!? I've been nothing but understanding up to this point but that's insane for someone to tell me that they would start drawing on Sat. night and 4 days later has nothing. I actually don't believe he started drawing anything at all because I asked him to send me a text of the composition so I would know we were on the same page. Never sent anything. Brent was sure happy and quick to take my $100 but quite the opposite on completing his end of the deal. I went to Billy Bob's and after I decided I wanted to get first tattoo (I've been thinking about it for months) and I went online and I decided to see if I could do a walk in. The owner (I think) was on their porch with her dog when I walked in. I got good vibes right off the back. They allowed me to come in and help me pick out what I wanted based on the picture that I showed them. Gave me the price estimation and with in about 10ish mins they started. I don't remember my tattoo artist's name but he was so nice, along with the rest of the staff, just did a good job of making a comfortable environment for me to get my first tattoo in. I was on vacation with my family and we planned on all getting tattoos our last night in town. I looked up Tattoo Ranch online, and they looked like they were professional and had a nice vibe. All of us have tattoos - bigger and smaller pieces that we have gotten from other places, from reputable artists. We all had our ideas in mind, so when we got there we went up to the counter to ask about them. Mine in particluar was a couple of snakes curled up facing each other so it kind of made a skull. I wanted the piece on the inside of my upper arm below my armpit about 4 inches in diameter - a good size compared to the size of my arm. So I asked the guy at the counter about it, and he said that the design was too intricate to do that small. Really? I have a lotus flower on my wrist that's way more intricate that's about 1 x 2 inches. What kind of artist are you that you can't do a couple of snakes that take up a good portion of my upper arm - not exactly a difficult area to tattoo either. Also, as an artist, at least give me an option of what you can do in that size with a similar design. There's always compromises. But all I got was "we can't do that". On top of that they said they charge by the piece and not by the hour. All the other tattoos I have were by the hour and none of them cost more than $300. My dad wanted a small, simple Green Bay Packer logo, and the guy said that one would cost $300. Are you kidding me? Needless to say, the majority of us decided not to get tattoos at all and to get them at home with our personal artists who we trust aren't going to rip us off. My husband actually went up the street to Stockyards Tattoo and paid $60 for the one he wanted and they did a really nice job. read more

The shop said they couldn't do small detail. I've seen other people with a similar tattoo that looked great. However mine looks bad. They said in the future small details won't hold up and will look bad. Well honestly I'm OK with it looking bad when I'm older... but I at least i want it to look like what I want now. It took like 20 minutes. No detail. It cost 80 bucks. which i think is a little expensive for what i got. What he drew looked nice. But the finished product isn't that great. I plan on getting a collection of tattoos. I will most likely have this removed. read more

Upon the recommendation of some friends, I went to Tattoo Ranch last night for my first tattoo. My friends who had been before warned me that the employees could be condescending and rude. Nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone there was friendly, helpful, and fun. It was a great experience! They worked with my idea to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. Sean is very talented and was just wonderful!! He explained what he was doing and was very reassuring when I told him I was nervous. My tattoo looks exactly like I envisioned it. I called BEFOREHAND to make sure it was alright if did a walk in. The lady on the phone said it was fine and told me to come in. 30 minutes later i show up, and when i walk in there is nobody behind the counter. I wait for SIX minutes as this young girl has a conversation in a room behind the counter. Finally, she comes out and asks me what i was coming in for. I said i had talked to someone on the phone and said i had some pictures and ideas i wanted to go over and possibly get tattooed. So, she brings me this girl named Stormy, who turned out to be the women who i spoke to on the phone. I showed her some pictures and right away she said "Oh, no i can't do that." That should have been my first red flag. I'll make a long story short and say that STORMY had only workede there a couple months, and WAS NOT supposed to be tattooing or taking walk in's but did a tattoo on me anyways which turned out TERRIBLE. I contacted the shop to tell them about what happened but they never called me back as promised. I decided not to waste anymore time because they simply just aren't worth it. I will go back to EPIC TATTOO for the rest of my tattoos. read more

This place is AWESOME and Eric Coe is an absolutely superb artist! I came in with many elements I wanted in a "largish" tattoo (chest and 1/2 sleeve). Eric took my ideas and we worked together to come up with incredible art. In total it took us about 40-50 hours of work, but the detail, depth, colors and entire theme came out far beyond any expectations. Ultra sanitary and just an incredible artist!! read more

Went in for a couples tattoo. My bf had Eric, he was awesome. Very friendly and delivered an awesome tatoo. He is the reason its getting 3 stars and not just one. I had Cody... not so awesome. He changed the design of the tattoo with out telling me, i didnt know until it was done. Although i do like the tattoo the whole point was for it to be the same as my bf's and because he decided to change it up it dosnt. We did it at the same time right next to each other, all he had to do was speak up. When we asked him why he didnt do it the same he reaponded with, ohh yeah i didnt do that small stuff.... he also said because of location (my ribs) small detail wasnt a good idea. I went in there to get a simple word done. Instead of giving me a price, they asked me how much I would pay for it. (I've never heard of a tattoo artist asking how much you would be willing to pay) It was my first tattoo and my friend had paid $100 for three words, so I said $100 not keeping in mind that he got three words not one. I agreed to it because at the time I was excited and emotional at the same time, I was getting the tattoo in memory of two friends that I had lost that year. I walked in there wanting my grandchildren's names (fonts) tatooed on my back. One of the persons who opened the place today July 21, 2013 told me with a (We're too good for that attitude) said they only did Specialty tatoos. I asked if he could refer me to one nearby who can do the fonts, so he said "sure they can do that," with that same smirky look on his face, and said a tatoo font, will not come out like you see on the computer, and if he did that, he would just do calligraphy cause calligraphy was calligraphy. I looked at him like he was crazy if he thought I would let him tatoo ANYTHING on my back without knowing what font he would use. MAN! I had a photo of the tattoo that I wanted. Like other tattoo shops where I've had work done, I assumed the artist would copy the photo and apply the imprint on my arm, and go from there. The guy drew it free hand and when you draw stenciled letters and numbers free hand, it looks horrible. As soon as he showed me the drawing, I ran out of the there so fast that I never looked back. And while I was waiting for the artist to finish up the drawing, a dog comes inside the shop out of nowhere and hops up on the couch in the waiting area. How sanitary is that? The dog roamed the entire shop and then I was told that it's the owner's dog. My sister got her tattoo before I was going to and it looks horrible! He didn't even draw her's on paper, just did it on her skin. Now she has to get it fixed somewhere else because of the horrific job.
