Response time is prompt about tattoos as long as you're clear about what you want You get to discuss the way the tattoo ought to change and they make live edits on the spot. The venue is clean and they seem to take appropriate sanitary precautions. The first time I got a bashful psyduck from a Korean woman who seemed to understand the sensibility I was going for. I had sent 2 reference photos and neither had a full body but she was able to match it very well. We even had the body adjusted so he looked rounder. The next time I got an Iranian artist who took incredible time with the fine lines although I asked for something quite simplistic. I appreciated his attention to detail. Would return. read more

I am SO happy that my first tattoo experience was with Tattoo People. The staff and overall experience were phenomenal. The receptionist was super friendly and so comforting when she realized I was nervous about my pain tolerance. She's also so bubbly and a joy to be around! The tattoo artist I got was J and I'm so glad she was the first tattoo artist I've ever dealt with. She is the sweetest lady and so knowledgeable about what she does. I am blown away by her talent and somehow, the tattoo came out looking better than the sketch she provided, which I fell in love with. In fact, the entire atmosphere at Tattoo People were super friendly and chill. Another customer even came up to me and chatted about our new tattoos! The place is also very, very sanitary and clean. They do an amazing job with making sure their customers' health comes first. Parking can be a little tricky as it is street parking. This review is difficult for me to wrote, mostly because I didn't want to admit that I wasn't happy with something that is now permanently on my body. I had been wanting a wishbone tattoo for years, and had done extensive research as to which artist in Toronto truly matched the style I wanted. Finally found Hailey Lee, and thought her dainty style and thin lines was perfect for what I wanted. I called to make an appointment with her. When my appointment time came, I went in with my reference photos saved on my phone: I wanted a tiny wishbone on my left ribcage. I was disappointed right away when I walked into the shop and was told that Hailey was with another client, and I had never booked my appointment with her (I had - like I said, this is a permanent alteration to my body and I made sure to do my research). They said another artist was available, Andre, and that he could do it. It was a very simple design and, being so small, was only going to take 10 minutes. I should have said right away that I would come back, but I looked at my reference photo again and figured it was pretty simple, so I agreed to have Andre do my tattoo. He printed off a stock wishbone line image in 3 sizes, and I hesitantly picked the smallest size (it still wasn't as small as I was hoping). Andre recommended I choose the medium size, and when I asked if it was because he couldn't do a small tattoo, he said no, it would just look better if I got it bigger. Still I chose the smallest, and we went to his tattoo bed to get started. He pressed the stencil to me and gave me a mirror to see how I liked it. I asked to have it repositioned a bit, approved it, and he got to work. 5 minutes and it was over, and I looked in the mirror and put on a happy face and didn't say how disappointed I was. I take some responsibility for how this went down. First, if I didn't want to be tattooed by Andre, I should have said so, or made another appointment. Or I should have spoken up right away that I wasn't happy with this stock image wishbone art, and that I had a very specific vision. But to be honest, this was my first tattoo, and I wasn't brave enough to assert again what I wanted... I felt Andre kind of judged at my tattoo idea, how basic it was (and yeah, it is, but who cares?) and so I didn't feel like I could make a big fuss about something so simple. I didn't want to be demanding, or impossible to please. I've seen Andre's previous work, I know he's used to doing elaborate and beautifully realistic portraits, but I didn't like feeling like what I wanted was beneath him. I know some of you might look at the attached photos and think they look virtually the same. I get it. I'm nitpicking. But it's my body and tattoos are expensive and permanent, and I deserved to get exactly what I wanted. Everyone who wants to get a tattoo deserves to have something that gives them pleasure in the mirror every time they see it. Excellent, amazing, great. Decided at age 55 to get my first tattoo, did my research, and found the amazing Hailey Lee at Tattoo People and knew right away I wanted work from her. I'm a designer of 25+ years, btw, so my standards for good design/art are quite high, and I have to drive 90 minutes to get into the city. Consultation was great, staff were helpful, place is clean and minimal but crowded and popular (which I'm okay with). Odd for a first-timer seeing the work area is so open, but I have no issues with that. Hailey quickly understood my love of cats and desire for something unique and meaningful. A few weeks later I got an email from Hailey requesting that I narrow my reference images down from the huge pile I'd sent down to just five key ones, and with that Hailey produced two gorgeous designs to choose from ... both with the details I wanted, one more formal and one more artistic and loose. The second one was loved by everyone I showed it to. Day of my appointment ... nervous, anxious, but excited ... they were running a bit late (20 minutes, that's acceptable to me) and then Hailey showed me the three templates she'd printed showing different sizes of my choice. Nice touch. Selected one and just under two hours later I have this gorgeous, beautiful, unique piece of art on my arm. Hailey, you and the folks there are amazing! It was fun seeing various artists and staff come by during the work to admire the design you'd created and ask me how happy I was with it. Been admiring watercolour tattoos for several years now and was unsuccessful in finding an artist in Vancouver that can match the amazing work done in this shop. When I had the opportunity to travel to Toronto I immediately emailed them to see if I could get an appointment. I really wanted G. No but did not specifically ask for her as I know she's very busy and booked many months in advance. When I found out that she was going to be doing my tattoo I was ecstatic! As I was on the other side of the country, I had to do my consultation over the phone and by email. I found them to be organized and received responses in a timely manner. I received the sketch two weeks prior to my appointment and only needed a minor tweak. The shop has a great vibe and the staff make you feel at ease. This is not my first tattoo but if it were this is the kind of shop that would make your first experience a great one. Unfortunately I won't be able to go in for follow up/touch up but I really don't think I need anything as it's healing well. I love love love my tattoo. It's so beautiful. Warning: DO NOT COME HERE. I previously had 2 tattoos done by Niki, which looked great (she's no longer at this shop). I came back to get a tree tattoo with 2 hearts under it as a memorial tattoo behind my arm for my dog who passed away last year. I met with Hailey Lee (@lleeggaa) and that's when my nightmare began. She was very dismissive and unattentive during the consultation. However, when she sent me the sketch, it looked fine (picture posted). I was hopeful that the tattoo would look nice. During the tattoo-ing process, I voiced my concerns about the tree being too big. Not once during the 2 hour session did Hailey stop to ask if it looked ok, check with me re the colour etc. I cried as soon as I saw the tattoo. It looked like a birth mark, burn mark or psoriasis. In no way, shape or form did it resemble the sketch/stencil that was shown to me. The tree was overly circular; not symmetrical and very very poorly done. She coloured in leaves and left no empty space. I was upset as soon as I saw the tattoo. I immediately reported my concerns to Hailey and the store owner. Hailey was very rude and disrespectful. Ive never experienced such poor customer service. I sat down with the owner (Khan). During our discussion, he advised that he was prepared to do whatever was necessary to fix the problem, including, but not limited to laser removal and/or cover-up for the tattoo. He knew his staff messed up and did not charge me for the tattoo. Another staff member was present during the discussions. Among other things, Khan offered to and indicated that he would be prepared to pay out of pocket for the tattoo removal if it is not covered by your insurance. 2 days later, Khan's wife (Jaclyn) LATER RENEGED ON THEIR PROMISE. Tattoo people advised that I would have to commence a court application in order for them to pay for laser removal. I cannot wear shorts sleeves now as I have a massive red blob on my arm. I will have to go through 2 years of painful tattoo removal in order to get this tattoo off, and at a cost of over $3000. Save yourself the headache and go to another shop. Don't trust instagram!! read more

I had a great experience here with Cole Curtis. He's an apprentice but his work is so good! He spent a lot of time making changes to the design I wanted. He was very sweet and I felt really comfortable getting inked by him. He is also a really talented artist. The lines are super crisp and it healed so quickly and I had absolutely no issues with it (as I have with other tattoos). Overall it was a really positive appointment! I'm not from Toronto but next time I'm in town I would definitely want another tattoo from Cole. read more

Loved the artists here, particularly for delicate black line work - esp anything minimal floral. I've gotten at least five tattoos here over the years, I have two florals which are my favourites and I love a hundred percent, give stars. I know one, if not both we're done by Jihan; Yoko, who's no longer there, did a minimal line drawing of my dog - all three of these were the artist's original drawings based on my pictures/design inspirations. The 4th is a finger tattoo oh, I've had three touch-ups and it's definitely had some trouble taking, but they obviously warned me about this, and it's no fault of theirs. The actual tattoo is perfectly shaped, and in this case I wanted an exact copy of a symbol, and got it (artist: Dabin). My final one was another finger tattoo but it shouldn't take it all, again not their fault. I don't remember who the artist was, wish I did. But I remembwr enough to have decided to not continue going there out of loyalty. Over the years it seems the quality of service has gone down, from my experience. As well, their pricing has increased significantly because they are high demand and their appointment wait times are pretty high, but that's never a problem (in fact, kind of a good sign). My most recent experience was disappointing because they set me up with the junior artist, without telling me. And cahrged me for a regular artist. When I inquired they insisted he was a senior artist, however his own Instagram page STILL says he's a junior artist. And judging by the work he did, he's a junior artist. I don't regret the tattoo, but it's definitely the least impeccable or accurate tattoo I've ever had, with the most nervous - least focused artist I've ever worked with. Moreover, loyalty means nothing to them. If you're not a part of their immediate community, you're just a customer. And it seems no difference if you're a walk in or someone whose been going for 7 years with 4+ tattoos. So yeah read more

I'm from out of town and came to Toronto for a special family event. My cousins and I grew up together and wanted to get a tattoo to symbolize our lifetime bond. We decided to go to Tattoo People, we called the shop and was scheduled for a consultation the same day. Staff was very friendly and paid attention to every detail when listening to our tattoo idea. They told us they would not be able to tattoo all of us on short notice because the were booked. Since we're from out of town we needed to get it done before the end of the week or we'd have to choose another shop. A few minutes later the receptionist came back to say they were able to book us ALL that Friday with Ted ( traditional Japanese artist). We were all so excited that they were so accommodating. Since we were open with design ideas we welcomed Ted's style and the tattoos came out great. I never thought I'd like something like it. Ted was very polite and friendly and adjusted the designs to our liking. After four hours we all had beautiful artwork that'll last a lifetime. We had some concern about our skin tones (almost all pictures in the shop are of fair skinned people) but, the tattoo came out very pigmented. The price of the tattoo ranged from $110 - $280 depending on the size or shading; reasonable for an award winning shop.Ted did an excellent job on such short notice, I would highly recommend him and this shop! read more

I came to this shop back in June 2019 to get a simple heart with a rose tattoo by Kelly and I was pleased with my experience. She told me that I can come back and get it touched up so I made an appointment online to come back to get it touched up and also get another tattoo piece in November 2019. I haven't heard from Tattoo People through the email I sent and they only responded between 1-2 days on Kakao Talk. They notified me that Kelly wouldn't be able to give me my touch up and new tattoo piece because she wouldn't be available during the times I would visit Toronto but Ellen was available. I checked out her Instagram and agreed to have her be my tattoo artist. When I got to my appointment, I check in with the front desk and when I meet Ellen, she didn't even know I was coming in to get a tattoo from her. She didn't have my tattoo idea ready nor did she know about my touch up. I told her my tattoo idea of an outline of a family portrait and she says she just needs a bit of time to draw a sketch. Two hours go by and I haven't heard back from her. I get annoyed because I got to the shop right when they opened, saw it was 2pm, and I noticed I was going to miss my flight back to New York. Ellen comes back to start on my touch up and I noticed that she rounded out all the petals of the rose and never asked me if it was okay to modify what was already there. When it came to the family portrait tattoo, I asked her what she thought about the placement I wanted because I wanted to get a second opinion but it was literally like talking to a wall with her. She showed no sign of interest in tattooing me or giving me any emotions. It really looked like she just wanted to get it over with. This tattoo was behind my arm and I was put in such an uncomfortable position that I was cramping up every few minutes. I was told that this was only going to take no more than 30 minutes because it's just simple black line work but it somehow took an hour and 20 minutes. I didn't ask to take a break or else this whole process would've taken longer and she looked fed up with me already. He attitude was unprofessional and disgusting and it comes to show that her work on her Instagram doesn't reflect what her work is like in person and how she treats her customers. Other notes to keep in mind: they never checked IDs either times I was there which is a huge red flag because a minor could literally walk in and get a tattoo if they looked old enough. I first found Tattoo People on Instagram about 3 years ago when I went to get my first tattoo there. The first one I ever got was a tiny Cherry blossom behind my ear by Jess Chen. Since then I've come back for my entire forearm sleeve (3 separate sessions) and most likely the remaining of my tattoos in the foreseeable future. Their artists are phenomenal but I give my biggest thanks to Hailey, as well as G.No. Thanks Hailey for working so hard and repeatedly placing stencils down til they are perfect!! Excellent tattoo parlour! I've been to several shops, all around the downtown area, and I think I may be sticking with their place now. Tattoo People is a wonderful shop with a warm atmosphere, very friendly staff, and talented artists. The parlour's location is a bit easy to miss because of its nondescript exterior and location. I almost missed it on my first visit. Plenty of parking around. You can park on the main street either on the store's side or across for a metered fee ($2/hr). Another option is within the residential area. Drive pass the store and just a bit straight through Bathurst and turn right at the small convenience store. You can park on that block for free. Its a 3 minute walk to the shop. The interior, I find, quite lovely. They took a minimalist approach which gave them a crisp and modern look. They have a couch and a single comfy chair where you can lounge while you wait. The artists are amazing. Check out their shop's instagram where you can also find the artists' personal pages sometimes tagged. Pricing is fairly reasonable for the exceptional work you'll be getting. Tattoo People seemed less organized in comparison to my first visit. I initially e-mailed the tattoo artist (Yusun) I wanted to ask for a quote and got a response to come in for a consult. I then called the shop since I don't live near the area, and after some reluctance, they gave me a quote over the phone. I sat on the idea for a couple weeks and eventually scheduled an in-person consult since 1. I changed my idea, and 2. I was told I had to come in anyway to place a deposit instead of making an appointment through e-mail like the first time. Understandable, since every other shop I've been to requires a deposit prior to booking an appointment, but I guess keep a consistent policy to avoid these type of expectations from clients? I came to the shop 20 minutes late for my consultation. I had called them 40 minutes ahead to explain the TTC subway wasn't running so I would be late, and they understood. They said the consult wouldn't take too long anyway, but to arrive before the artist's next appointment. When I arrived, the artist spoke to us and got an idea of what we were looking for (matching tattoos) and gave us an approximate quote depending on the final size we chose. After my consultation, I decided to go through with booking an appointment. I had only brought in my credit card to place a deposit but they have a $50 CASH ONLY deposit policy. I left to retrieve money from the bank and came back. The artist asked if we could come in on the 23rd. My friend and I BOTH heard this and I have a habit of *always* writing appointments on my phone calendar and repeating it to the booking person whenever I make any appointment (I'm Type A). My friend and I then left. We received a sketch from the artist via e-mail a month prior to our appointment to my surprise since we were told it would be a week before our appointment that we would be sent a sketch. About 5 days later, I get a confirmation text from the shop asking if I am still available to come in on on the 2nd for my appointment. Confused and thinking they forgot to add the 3 to make it "23", I texted back that I can come in on the 23rd. They then called me a few minutes after my text and at that point, both the shop and I were confused because my friend and I both heard that our appointment was on the 23rd but the receptionist said our appointment was for the 2nd. I asked if our deposit would still stand even if we couldn't make it for the 2nd since we both heard the artist tell us and confirm our appointment on the 23rd (since I repeated it back to her when I booked the appointment). The receptionist didn't answer my question and asked if I could ask my friend if we could both come in on the 2nd instead. Lucky for them, we were both free that that day....I'm not sure if they would have honoured our deposit if we could not make it to the 2nd. It was a pretty bad impression after my first experience with the shop. There was no appointment card provided to us when we made the deposit, but this would be my suggestion to the shop so as to avoid this same confusion in the future with other clients. When we came in for our appointment, everything went smoothly, and our pieces came out beautifully. Yusun is very skilled despite being a new tattoo artist, and she is also very quick and lighthanded: both nice qualities for any client under her needle. My tattoo experience with Yusun was amazing. The shop is clean, staff are very welcoming and friendly and the decor is amazing inside. Yusun listened to what I wanted and drew it perfectly, better than I could have imagined! I was nervous about getting a rib tattoo and Yusun made me feel relaxed and the tattoo turned out perfectly! I got tattooed on my forearm by Jessica Channer in Spring and it was an incredible experience. Excuse the delay for writing a review as my work life has been super busy. The shop is very clean, professional and has a fun atmosphere, they're also quite busy which speaks to the talent in there. Jessica has a unique style and artistry and her colourful work always amazes me. She's approachable, professional and was very attentive to my request, not to mention she takes her time and is very gentle and careful while tattooing. I got a bee with a flower wreathe and sun and the work is so vibrant, clean and very detailed. I've had other artists tell me how impressed they are with the clean line work and often catch people staring in envy at my tattoo. I can't wait to get some more work by you in the New Year! A tattoo shop I've been looking for! This place is clean, helpful, friendly, and super thorough. I was looking for a design that's a little more modest, and Tattoo People excelled in making this the easiest process possible. I came across this benevolent shop through a blog, and I'm so happy they came into my life. My artist was patient with me to ensure my tattoo was exactly the look, size and placed where I wanted. You do have to work with your tattooist because some of artists have very limited English- but since I already had my image in mind, I didn't have any problems. Although I can see how others would run into some difficulty.. The interior is fresh and modern, and exactly the kind of environment I would want for my first tattoo. I've been to a few shops around the city, these guys have a variety of various Asian styles that cater to everyone's tastes. I've been a follower of Kelly Ye's for years and only recently got a custom hip/thigh piece by her. Very friendly service, I highly reccomend. My only suggestion to improve the experience of the shop would be better heating in the basement area (both the backup tattoo chair and the bathroom). Being tattooed for 5 hours in the cold is not the most pleasant for the artist or the client. read more

About three months before my short visit to Toronto I made an appointment and emailed the artist asking if she would mind doing the consult via email since I live on the west coast. She agreed so I sent a detailed description of what I wanted. After not hearing back for two months I emailed her asking about sketches and an estimate. She was polite, gave me an estimate and told me to expect her design 2/3 days before the appointment. Unfortunately I didn't receive any artwork until 10:00 pm the night before. I asked her to change a few things, but was ultimately not 100% happy and asked if we could try something else. She told me it was shop policy to to charge an additional $50 redrawing fee and I would need to reschedule, but the first opening wasn't for a few weeks. Despite making my appointment months ago and telling the shop and artist that I was visiting and had limited time for the appointment, I feel like they dropped the ball on their end. Over all they were polite but I found the entire experience frustrating. read more

The final tattoo came out pretty good, and I don't regret getting it at all. The people at the front desk are approachable and friendly. However, the tattoo artists themselves seem pretty standoffish and unwelcoming of questions and changes to the ideas. My artist was Elleno who is very artistically talented and did a great job, she did my tattoo very gently and that is what matters but I still wish I could have talked and discussed with her more about my idea freely. I felt restricted and I was under a budget and she didn't care much about it. I feel like Tattoo People lean more on the pricey side and in terms of price I do regret my tat because its not even that big and I got charged a LOT for it. Would I come here again? Hailey is the BEST. She is attentive and has so much patience. I was indecisive with the placement of my tattoo, but she really took the time to experiment different options i have. And the tattoo I had probably only took her 20 minutes, and the end result is exactly what I expected. I don't often write reviews but when it comes down to making a life decision like permanently putting art onto your body here I am... Tattoo People are full of the friendliest, warmest staff and talented people I've come across. This particular shop is modern but not cold and is decorated carefully as if it weren't just a place to get tattoos but in a way where it reflects an artist's environment. The staff are warm, friendly and insanely talented. They have a few artists with a variety of talents but something I noticed from this shop is that the work they produce, from Asian-stylings to traditional and watercolour is rather graceful and I haven't seen any work that I didn't like. I had a tattoo done by an apprentice (Jess Channer) and I've witnessed work by some of the other apprentices... despite only starting their careers in tattoos they're SO good and really take the steps to make you feel comfortable. They're professional you would hardly know that they were still beginners. That should speak volumes about their mentors as what you do is a reflection of how well someone has trained you. I LOVE the work that Jessica gave me and I'm proud to wear it. If you're looking for some work to be done, obviously do your research but I can personally vouch for this place and have recommended several of my good friends to go here to get inked. read more

My experience at Tattoo People was not all around terrible however my experience with the artist herself pretty much was. I'm not even sure of her name as she never gave it. I had called ahead and come in as a walk in as I was just hoping for a couple simple tattoos. The artist seemed irritated with me from the start and it went down hill from there. She didn't seem able or willing to answer any of my questions and/or would give contradictory answers if I asked for clarification. She further would not give any input/professional recommendation even when asked and did not seem to understand my own input/requests (i.e., I would say 'can it be just a little bit smaller' and she would make it about 1cm smaller on a tattoo that was less than 2.5" to start). Even unprofessional little things occurred such as being sprayed in the eyes with the alcohol spray used to clean the area of skin because she did not take any care in properly directing the spray. When we finally got to placement of the tattoos, it took us two tries for one of them and the other one I first thought was ok (and felt pressured to just say it was ok) but finally did get up the nerve to say that I felt it was not quite centred on my arm and asked if it could be moved over just the tiniest bit (I am also pretty small to start so it does take more precision to get things placed correctly). She seemed really frustrated at this point and I'm honestly not sure if she purposely botched her second attempt because it ended up evidently off centre to the other side of my arm and on an angle. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with this placement and tried to explain again what I had been hoping for, she let her frustration out and told me she could not "do this". I left without getting the tattoos which was probably for the best as I am not confident they would have been well done. She did not seem to take pride in her work nor even enjoy it and overall did not embody any of the values of a quality artist. Other artists at the shop may be fine but my experience left me questioning the competency of the artist I had been paired with and feeling horrible for upsetting her even though I was the client asking her to do her job... read more
