Many years ago (maybe 1996ish?) my friends and I were in college and traveled to Macomb on a mission to get tattoos and piercings. It was a first for all of us, so we were naturally young, stupid, trusting to some extent, and didn't really know what to expect. Tattoo Blue appeared to be a standard version of a shop with walls of flash, appeared clean and that healthful protocols were used, and had the Health Department licensing certificate on the wall.
I think the tattoo sadomasochist that inked my friend's brother (I'll call him Jay) and I was named Devin. He may no longer be at this shop, but you should definitely find out before you consider getting a tat there.
Any experienced tattoo artist that sees my ankle tat comments how heavy handed I was inked. Jay got a fairly large tat on his upper arm, and I'm pretty sure he was 16 when he got it, but no questions were asked. Jay has had extensive tattoo work done in the years since and has not been told good things about his tattoo or the person that gave it to him. Jay has lumps of scar tissue from the experience at Tattoo Blue.
The small bit of color I requested on my tat never healed right to begin with and partially came out with a scab. Years later, my first tat is kinda bled out, and I'll probably have someone look at it to see if is is possible to touch it up someday. I consider my ink from Tattoo Blue as my badge of growing up, trying out defiance, and crazy impulsiveness; and I drew the design myself, so I still love it. But I wouldn't recommend the Sadist Experience to anyone. read more
