The entire tattoo process can be scary to first timers, but they're all friendly and will make it as painless (ha!) as possible. Each artist has several photo albums of their work available to look through and you should definitely go through them to get a feel for what styles the artists excel in - I'd say all three can do just about anything, but Ed is the man for old school designs, Hawk will nail anything Native American influenced, etc.

Then, your shop manager won't even complete my tattoo. He waits until 2 hours before the appointment to message my husband on Facebook to cancel because he didn't order supplies in time. Gets mad. I looked at the reviews and decided to call and make an appointment. I am so glad this is where fate led me. Nic was extremely professional and made me feel very comfortable in a situation others may have been extremely embarrassed. Like others have said, he explained everything involved in the process. He didn't make me feel like he was in a rush. I'm a bleeder, and he was very focused on making sure it was taken care of before sending me on my way. I have plans for more piercings and some stretching, and I know that's the only place I'm going.

First off, I want to say that I'm super bummed out that I didn't check out 9 Dot until the 2 weeks…read moreprior to my moving away. One of the best shops I have been to, hands down. (I've been to MANY) Chuck Day is friendly and enthusiastic about all kinds of art. It is a strictly custom shop, with original works of art covering the walls instead of ugly, outdated flash. My fiance and I (coincidentally) purchased gift-certificates for eachother from 9Dot and when we came in to make an appointment, Chuck offered to come in on his day off to tattoo us. I don't think he does that regularly, but we were getting large pieces and he was sympathetic to our need to get done quickly, as we were moving soon. My fiance had a giant piece done on his calf, and I had Chuck tattoo a huge eagle on my throat. He works quickly, even though he takes breaks about every 45 minutes or so. I don't mind taking breaks, but my fiance was in a lot of pain, so he wanted to get through it as fast as possible. (Wuss!) Overall, 9 Dot is a fantastic shop. VERY CLEAN, with a focus on art. They have lots of art and magazines to look at while you wait for your appointment, and a funky mix of hiphop, soul, with a smidge of hardcore music fills the large open space. If I still lived in Iowa, I would not have to find another shop or artist ever again. I seriously can't gush enough! Thanks Chuck! You did a splendid job!

Being that I was from out of town, I gave my daughter the job of researching and find a great tattoo artist. She definitely did her homework in researching the art work and recommendations from people in the tri cities. She finally decided on Charlie at OD. Charlie made multiple requests for multiple pictures of our dog in helping to set up the dog's portrait. Well, we went in for the tattoo's. He did one after the other and they both looked exactly alike. What was even more incredible is that it wasn't just a dog tattoo'd on my shoulder blade. It was my dog. I could actually distinguish my dog's personal attributes. I never expected that. I was very impressed. This was my third tattoo. The last one was done in Ohio. I was so impressed with the work by Charlie that I decided if I want another one, I will schedule it on my next visit to the area. One other thing, I really enjoyed the atmosphere inside of the business. It's relaxed yet professional. Two other tattoo artists were working at the same time. Everyone gets along well and it creates a very comfortable setting for all.

They're open Tuesday through Saturday and take appointments with a $20 deposit. Peep their website for specials and availability, as it's appointment only. My nine year old had a horror story from a botched Claire's piercing years ago. (Long story short, it wasn't done properly and her lobe ripped. Eek.) Fast forward a few years and after letting her lobes heal fully-- I felt we were ready to try again. I contacted Steeve and he was confident we'd have no issues and I set up an appointment! We popped in on a Tuesday (buy one piercing, get one free). The staff greeted us with smiles! My daughter, Cora, went to the jewelry case and selected a bubble gum pink opal set that were reasonably priced. There was quite a selection: tons of sizes, metals, etc. Steeve was a calm, professional presence that treated Cora with respect and care. He walked her through the process and showed her what he was doing or going to do. He let her know he'd stop whenever she wanted and really emphasized it was ok to be nervous. He had her do deep breaths throughout as a way to countdown when a piercing was going to happen and even jammed some Taylor Swift during the appointment. It was refreshing as a parent to not be the one he was talking to, but Cora, instead. It's her ears after all! Cora was a rockstar (not even a tear was shed) but I attest it is partly because Steeve and the entire team set her up for success. Reminder-- bring an ID! Even for littles it is required. Release Body Modification is a piercing shop that can do just about anything you want, piercing wise. Quality is definitely the #1 priority from the piercing itself to the jewelry sold here. Beyond that, I can't emphasize enough that it is a compassionately run shop. Set up your appointment today!
