Brian (obviously the artist) is wonderful, he is super relaxed, he listened to all my silly request (I made plenty) and steered me in the right direction. The above was my review right after my tattoo by Brian. Way to many months have past, and this dumb blond obviously forgot to hit "post review". Anyways, way back when I was showing off my latest tattoo to my family back in the Netherlands my sister got so enthusiastic she booked a flight (May 2017), told me to "please book appointment with Brian" and came over for him to do the same tattoo on her. I feel should explain; for years I've been trying to get my sister her 1st tattoo, and for it to be a sisters one. I showed her many ideas before and usually got a ", not sure", until I came up with a rough draft for a sisters/family design (as to have my family close, having lived overseas and missing them daily), as I showed it to my sister she fell in love with the simple design on paper and said she would love this, Yes! she wanted one too. She wanted me to help her find a good artist in Amsterdam blahblah, moving forward... for myself I found Brian who made my design absolutely gorgeous so when sis saw it she knew she wanted him to ink her as well. She immediately booked her flight and was on her way to not just get her first ink but also visit me ! Yay! This was the best decision ever. It's even better than mine I'll be coming back with some other ideas I have

Horrible service. I think first impressions are always important. I came in a while back for my very first tattoo. It's close to home so I dropped by to check out their shop and ask a few questions. I wish I could remember the manager's name or who ever was in charge at that moment, but he was nasty. He was on the phone with a customer and kept making faces, when he hung up he started saying awful about the customer. So when he saw me, he didn't even ask for my name or a "hello welcome to tattoo 42". He treated me like shit. I obviously had questions, I felt rushed and unwelcome. I have a blood disorder, it's not hemophilia, its VWD, but I marked yes on one their questions for that, and I asked if this was bad. His answer, " i am not a doctor". I left and never came back. I went to Robot Tattoo down instead. Austin Rose did my tattoo and he was friendly and funny. Even gave me his email to send him my next tattoo idea so he could sketch it out for me. Answered all my questions without making me feel like an idiot. read more

So I have spent some time in this shop and it is awesome. It is a very clean, and friendly environment. I have gotten three tattoos done there (one of which was a cover up) and two piercing sessions, all of which turned out amazing. I personally get tattooed by Rich and can say his work is beyond great! He takes the time to put some creativity into his work and make sure I was beyond satisfied. On the piercing end, I get pierced by Kaitlin and she is great as well. All of them have turn out great and healed nicely. Overall, after all my time spent there I have not seen any work that was anything less than great quality, at reasonable prices. I will never take my business anywhere else and I highly recommend checking this shop out for any work you would like done. read more

My name is Tony Pine and I am the General Manager of a Real Estate Company in Portland. Two days ago I received a tattoo from John at Tattoo 42. I don't typically write reviews or anything like this, but I was so impressed with John's work and how I was treated that I wanted to at least take the time to say thank you! John created my custom tattoo for a cover up on my arm and it turned out AWESOME! He was creative, professional, fun and the shop was very clean. I would definitely recommend his services to others and I will also be going back to John for my next tattoo. I couldn't be happier with the turn out of my tattoo as well as my experience during the 4 hour session with John. Thank you again and Great Job John! Tony Pine read more

I had Doug do my tattoo after basically knowing what I wanted. I took him a book of hummingbirds and the style of tattoo I wanted. He studied the book and even picked natural color combination and even chose a flower that was indigenous to the area that my hummingbird came from. His knowledge in color combinations is perfect. I waited a little longer than usual to get my touch up and he was very accommodating. I also have had Kaitlyn do two of my piercing and I couldn't have got a more sweet and knowledgeable piercer. Prices at the shop are reasonable and will get all my work done at this shop. Give them a try. read more

What's up, Negative Nancey? Got a lot of virtual balls on Yelp, eh? Unfortunately for you it's clear that you have very little experience getting tattoed, no experience giving them and ZERO tact. Anyhow... I've had a couple of tats done by Doug, one of my sons feet on my neck and a heart and banner on my shoulder and they both turned out really well, especially the one on my neck. Doug did an awesome job and was very polite, good guy. In fact all the folks at that shop are awesome, well informed and very helpful, big shout out to John, Doug, Rich and Kaitlin! read more

During the appointment the artist continued to leave to smoke marijuana, not cigarettes, marijuana. She then proceeded to force me into continuing the tattoo after I had asked her repeatedly to stop and that I was done. She then, directly in front of me while I was paying was talking to a coworker about how she should have charged me more for "the artwork" that she did not even draw, she also added to the artwork without my approval. Overall very disappointing, very rude, and will not recommend. read more

Love it! Came here to get my ears pierced, never done it and had a lot of questions (as well as being scared). Kaitlin calmed me down and answered every single question I had. It went smooth, it looked great, and it was cheap. All my friends did it at home and told me not to waste my money, but their the ones with infected ears!
