They were fast, friendly, efficient and saved me a ton of money. All the stars. I'll be going back as long as they'll have me!

Ray Ellen was not able to prepare a return for my work as an independent contractor in the entertainment industry that met my standards compared to the firm that did my taxes for the past decade (They also cleaned up Tate's mess within an hour of me reaching out on April 15th). When I tried to let Tate know that I was unhappy, Ray Ellen called me to yell at me for 15 minutes and then hung up on me. They're leaving me hanging on tax day without filing a single piece of paperwork. This family is NOT to be trusted with your finances. read more

Multi-year problem with my s-corp and it's filings. Still not resolved. They have sent me mail, yet somehow gave the IRS the wrong mailing address, so now my returns are being sent back. I have had "we'll take care of it" answers only to check in weeks later to find that nothing had been done. If you have a llc or s-corp do not come here. I'm still dealing with this mess. read more

This is a family run business and in the same vein, my family is a multi generation supporter of Tate & Associates. Some of my earliest memories are of going into Tate's office with my parents and grandmother as they filed taxes. As an adult, I've brought my kids to the Tate office while meeting with Jerry's daughter Rae Ellen for tax preparation services. (Virtual appointments only since 2020- which I appreciate!) Full disclosure: in my independent 20s, I tried to use a different CPA for tax preparation and paid a crazy fee without much difference in my return. Rae Ellen is friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable with taxes and the law. Plus, anything changes with your income, you can call and get immediate free tax advice as far as filling status and withholding. With Rae Ellen's assistance, I've never had to pay back taxes after filing my return. She's great and I recommend Tate & Associates to anyone and everyone. read more

Hello! I worked with Pamela Tates for my tax filing as an entertainment employee and 1099 independent contractor for years 2017 to 2019. I was audited by the IRS and I have submitted all my receipts and paperwork to her to submit to the IRS. She has told me that her office will photocopy the original documents and submit the photocopies to IRS. I routinely followed up with her regarding the status of my audit; and she has responded to me to ignore the letters from the IRS as she is already handling it as my accountant. When I received that final letter from the IRS that they have not heard anything from me, I called them and they confirmed to me that they have not received any correspondence, much more any documents regarding my case. By the time I found out about this, $10,000 was taken out of my account from all the penalties by the IRS. I went back to Pamela to ask her about what happened and much to my dismay, they have lost all my original documents as well. I submitted all my expense receipts to them in a box, organized by category and with a summary on a spread sheet. It is ludicrous how they lost a box full of original documents, much more vehemently lie about fixing my case with the IRS when clearly they did not do anything with the case. Pamela has no remorse to fix the situation. Did not fix anything and was passive aggressive the whole time I was asking for answers to my question. In the end, I lost so much money because of Pamela and she did not even do anything to try to fix the problem. If you have her as your accountant, when shit hits the fan, she will not have your back. read more

We have been going to Rae Allen for more than 10 years. She is the best. She knows everything about the studio industry and our small business. read more

My husband and I have been going to see Rae Ellen at Tate and Associates to have our taxes done, for over a decade. She is friendly, knowledgeable and completes everything in a timely manner. Rae Ellen has always been available to answer questions and when we (preCOVID) would come in person, she took her time answering any questions we had. We highly recommend Rae Ellen! read more

It is almost that time of year again....income taxes are coming up. I swear by Rae-Ellen Tate (at Tate & Associates) that you will get the absolute best service ever! I've been seeing Rae-Ellen for about 10 years now and have referred her to many of my friends who have become her regulars. A visit there is painless, fast, and super easy....and she's a real doll. This is a family owned business and her sisters are also helping her out. Heck I still see her even though she's in Burbank (30 miles from where I live now). read more

Tate & Associates screwed me over badly. They took days/weeks to respond back to me, by the time they did respond back I needed to have an extension. I sent them everything they asked for on the day of for them to contact me 12 days afterwards letting me know they couldn't help me. They said it was due to me sending them my information back too late even though I sent them all my information on the day the asked for it. They never let me know I had to send it to them at a certain time nor did they bother to email me the day before to give me enough time to send all my information. On top of all this they were extremely rude to me when I called to figurer out why did they wait until the last minute to let me know I needed an extension, why didn't they tell me it needed to be in at a certain time, and why did they wait to tell me 12 days afterwards that they didn't send it in? I felt these were all reasonable questions to ask but instead I was told repeatedly they were doing me a favor (I never asked them for any such favors since I payment was always the only option) I don't feel I should be grateful for someone taking me on as a client and then not doing anything and now I'm going to have to pay huge tax penalties due to them not letting me know they were too busy. If they simply let me know they were too busy to take new clients when I first emailed them on the 18th of June I would've thank them then took my business elsewhere. Instead they said yes, then screwed me over and now I'm going to be paying for it in a big big way. I attached the email exchange from the day the decided to let me know I needed an extension to the day they informed me they didn't do anything with my paperwork. Whoever is reading this can then decide if these are the people you want to be handling your taxes. On Jul 15, 2020, at 4:54 PM Hi Skylar, So sorry I haven't responded. The tax deadline has been very busy. I will need some more time to go over. Would you like me to file you an extension? Pam Sent: Wed, Jul 15, 2020 6:05 pm Subject: Re: Tax Info No worries! Rae Ellen and the whole team are amazing. We filed our 1990 taxes using their services and every year since. Their understanding of the entertainment industry deductions is second to none. I equate doing my taxes on the level of booking a dentist appt. Its the fear of going to the dentist and knowing what will/wont happen. Doing my taxes evokes a similar sentiment that I have no idea what the F all these code names for forms mean, and "itemize"? what the H is that? Did i even spell it right? Rae 100% alleviates those worries like the dreamy anesthesia your dentist gives you to calm you down and drift to lala land. My appointment was on time, quick and needless to say, absolutely painless. I can stop getting jittery during tax season and know Tate & Associates got my back. read more

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star... if you are thinking of doing your taxes with Pam, please don't and save yourself a headache! I did my taxes with her last year and had to pay someone else to fix it and found multiple mistakes in my taxes! Ended up paying late fees to the IRS... I asked her multiple times to fix the error, at the time I thought it was only one and nothing was done! I know this post is a year late but now that tax season is here I wanted to warn people about it. They have no idea what they are doing! read more

Julie is fantastic; they are all extremely professional and are up on any new tax changes - they do taxes properly snd fairly. We've been going here for the last 7 years. Thanks guys!!!!! read more

Like others, I finally grew up and left H&R Block in search of a professional, and Rae Ellen has been a blast to work with. Introduced through my wife's coworker in entertainment, we've entrusted both our personal and corporation taxes to her and her team, and did not regret it. With her warm and charming personality, she manages to not only be to the point, she cuts out the BS, and will go the extra mile to educate you on the spot about why certain things like IRAs and write-offs work in your favor. A shame that there aren't more 5 star reviews, they definitely deserve it. read more

Unfortunately I have to leave this review as I had many pleasurable and fast experiences filing taxes. While Pam and the rest of the staff are very friendly and welcoming they also really do not understand how taxes work and will ABANDON you if you are audited. Read the rest of the reviews. I'm not the only one. Many other have reported that everything is fine... until it's not. I was audited for a prior year and they were suddenly unavailable, unresponsive and taking multiple vacations. They didn't understand and could not properly relate the information necessary to the IRS and ended up forcing me to pay out of pocket for everything and dealing with the IRS by myself. This is not hyperbole, I have a long history over the course of the year of dodged phone calls, unanswered emails and non follow ups. I had to physically go to the office and wait to be seen to have her take action. Unacceptable customer service. Go to another tax company that actually care about their clients. read more

Julie is the BEST!!! The sweetest nicest woman you've ever met. She has been doing our taxes for years and always knows what to ask us for and what could help us save next year. I've been going here for the last three years to have Rae Ellen prepare my taxes. I come prepared and I'm in and out in under 10 minutes and I always leave smiling because my refund is always larger than my expectations. I've never had any problems and I pay what I think is pretty reasonable fee. In 2009 I emailed Rae Ellen in the middle of the summer about possibly paying quarterly estimated tax for 1099 income and she wrote back right away and told me the amount I ought to pay, when to pay it, who to pay it to, and sent me the document I ought to send in with my checks. I was recommended here by a friend and have since recommended others and everyone has had a positive experience. read more

These ladies are the best! I've worked with Julie for the past five years and cannot recommend her more highly. She has her eye on the details and is great about making recommendations of things I can adjust for the coming year. Once, when I received a sizable unexpected bonus mid year, she met with me for free to discuss the tax implications and how I could best handle the sudden influx of money. For free! Who does that? This is a family run operation. Everyone is so kind and helpful. Even in the midst of tax season, the ladies in the office never appear rushed or flustered. I have complete confidence in them and their ability to handle all my tax needs. read more

These accountants or whoever they are posing as accountants, are a JOKE!!!!! Don't do it if you are thinking of doing your taxes with PAM. Save yourself a headache! Now I have THOUSANDS that I somehow owe in taxes due to LATE fees to the IRS... I asked her multiple times to fix the error IN PERSON and thought it was being HANDLED but NOTHING was done! I am here to warn people about them. They are SCAM artists and don't know what they are doing! I will be reporting them to EVERY bureau and will be filing a lawsuit. MARK MY WORDS. The only bright spot about tax time is getting to see Rae Ellen and the group over at Tate Tax Associates.

I thought I had written this a year ago but now I don't see it so I wanted to make sure I reviewed Tate & Associates immediately following our tax appointment which was this morning. Relaxed, knowledgeable and friendly, Rae Ellen Tate and her family are the absolute best. I used to be a wreck going to our tax appointment but no more. Rae Ellen takes the sting out of it. She's enthusiastic and efficient and has an eagle eye. She noticed something on one of our statements that I had not, which would have cost me money. My husband and I have been going to Tate & Associates for years and they have always done a great job for us. My folks now use them as do some of our friends. All are very satisfied. Very reasonable and capable, I can't say enough great things about Tate & Associates. read more

Julie is an amazing accountant and soooo fast! Once you have your appointment you are in and out in under 30 mins! Our days of using Turbo tax are long done. I have been using Tate and Associates for over 3 decades now. Jerry Tate was a great guy and always steered me in the right direction. His knowledge of the Film and TV industry was second to none. I have recommended many people here with positive results. read more

I came to Tate & Associates to just have them file my basic taxes. They did exactly what I wanted. I have been using Tate & Associates for 14 years and they are exceptional. Kind, considerate, professional. As an entertainment professional they have guided me through determining appropriate deductions. My 2013 return was audited as my income jumped and I started a side business. Recommend highly. read more

My wife and I used this place for about 4 years. No issues. Of course a person, or business, shows its true colors in a time of crisis. Case in point, last year they made a mistake on our taxes. Hey, it happens. When the IRS contacted us, we brought the paper work to Julie. She saw where the mistake was, apologized, then said she would submit the response right away and resolve it. I called her a week later and was told it was being "taken care of". Well, imagine our shock 2 months later when we get a threatening letter from the IRS that there was no response and legal action was the next step!!! I called Julie back and she said it was "actually going out today". 2 months later????? Would they be paying the penalty and interest? Of course not. Then when we followed up with them a couple of days later (once bitten twice shy), Julie was on vacation and her partner was EXTREMELY rude and was "insulted" that we would want to check on their work. This was the treatment we received in every subsequent call. So....use them but be warned, if there is a mistake....call them OFTEN. We will not be using them again. If they had handled our case properly, we would be back. Costing us money AND being rude on top of it??? Oh no, there are too many people out there who actually WANT our business. read more

Because I travel a lot for work, I had multiple W-2s for 2013. The first person my wife and I had do our taxes tried to tell me that I owed more in taxes than I actually made in the various states I worked in. I was referred to Pam. In less than an hour, she had it sorted out (the W2s had the wrong gross income listed on them). She also got us a CA state income tax payment several hundred dollars lower than what we had originally been told we owed.
