Incredible food, best tacos in town. Do yourself a favor and make sure to give them a try...if you don't, you'll be missing out.

We were in the area because of my car windshield, and I spotted this place and had to make a stop. We had already had breakfast before leaving home, so we weren't really hungry per se, but that didn't stop us from trying a few things. We ordered some quesabirria, asientos (the delicious crispy residue from the bottom of the pan when they make chicharrón), and a cabeza taco. Everything was delicious! Agua fresca Jamaica (hibiscus) y cebada (we haven't found cebada in another Mexican restaurant). It's a little restaurant with A LOT of flavor. Honestly, it felt like a little taste of home right here in San Diego. Wendy was our waitress and she was really helpful, Thank you very much. We definitely be back later with more time and a much bigger appetite!

Chilorio is slow-simmered pork, shredded, fried in lard, and simmered in a sauce of chilis and spices. I've not found this dish anywhere north of the border and couldn't wait. I wasn't dissapointed. The chilorio was savory with deep flavors of chilis and spices. It's available as an omlette, but also as a side on its own, served in pan with a warm stack of very good corn or flour tortillas (or a mix of the two). In addition, we tried their birria de chivo (goat stew), also made in the Sinaloan tradition, with different chilis than the original Jalisco version and very cumin/cinnamon forward. Totally delicious. And totally affordable, at inexpensive-moderate menu pricing. The spot is charming, welcoming on the outside, tidy and clean on the inside, and run by a friendly family--who are happy to educate guests on their very special menu. I'd consider this a destination restaurant. Worth the trip from anywhere in San Diego County.

Mexican restaurant run by non-Mexicans with tasty and generous amounts of Mexican food. We shared the nachos carne asada with half no cheese because of my dairy free son. Lotso food and tasty meat. Chips stayed crunchy all the way to the bottom. Also had the machaca burrito and taquitos. Yummy. Great service. Friendly and very accommodating! Plenty of inside table seating. Glad they have a self-serve soda fountain. Next time we're in Santee, we'll be back.

Evenly portion with the egg, cheese, potato and bacon. The main reason why I can't give this place five stars is because the lack of flavor or seasoning. It was tasteless. I thought the salsa would help with the flavor, but even the salsa was on the bland side. I had really high hopes for this Mexican Shop, but maybe it was just this day for the lack of flavor. Other than that, the service was excellent. They had a long time of cars so I would assume the other items on the menu must be tasty. We ordered through the drive through so we didn't go inside to check it out, but we did like the double menus outside. One to look over what you want to get and the other to order at.

I really like that in addition to their many Birria options they also have fish and carne asada dishes in case you are craving something else . The dining room is really cute and very clean. This was a very easy five star review to write.
