I allow myself to have fish and chips about three times a year, so it's really important that it's good otherwise I feel very cheated indeed.
When I lived abroad, I used to have a ritual with my brother that whenever I came home (coincidently about three times a year) he would pick me up from Heathrow and drive me home, stopping in here for our supper. Or indeed breakfast/lunch or afternoon tea depending on the time my flight landed.
These are not the absolute best fish and chips I have ever tasted, but they do come quite close. My tip is to get a large haddock and chips - it's easily enough for two and means that they cook everything fresh to order. The fish is soft and flaky on the inside, crisp and crunchy on the outside and the chips are satisfyingly soggy. This place is my comfort food source, although strangely enough I'm never that comfortable afterwards! read more
