Vanam is an expansive suburban restaurant serving authentic Southern Indian dishes with some surprises like Bisi Bele Bath (a Karnataka staple and uncommon stateside) which was authentic and tasty (albeit loaded with Ghee!). Masala Dosa was acceptable though the dosa batter could use some rework (Dosa texture was a bit off though the Masala was tasty). Chutneys also were tasty with fresh coconut in the main one. The Medu Vada/Sambar was another winner with flavorful, authentic Sambar with traditional veggies (Drumsticks indicated Vanam means business!). The Mirchi Bajji was a bit under seasoned but still crispy on the outside (batter and filling could have used a couple grains of salt). Service was prompt and everyone was very courteous. There seemed to be multiple birthdays being celebrated on this particular evening based on the music played out when the complementary? dessert was served! Prices were reasonable for the quality and service. Menu goes beyond traditional fare and includes Jain and Indo Chinese options. Overall, this is an excellent find and we hope to be back despite the long trek deep into Schaumburg. Highly recommended!

The food is less than desirable. It is a self service restaurant but when paying they ask if u want to tip. I don't know why tips are necessary when it is all self service and they provide zero service. If you have leftovers they will give you boxes, but no bag. You have to dispose of any trash yourself. No busboy. Water is free and you can refill it yourself. Like I said before...self service. We ordered the following: * Steamed Classic Momos - a couple were stuck to the plate and all the filling came out. The others were falling apart. The overall taste was not good. The chutney was spicy and not bad. * Punjabi Samosa - it tasted like frozen samosas reheated. Did not taste fresh. * Aloo Paratha - It was ok but tastes like it was reheated from frozen. Lots of ghee. * Paneer Tikka Masala - It was sweet and had zero spicy flavor. First time having any tikka masala taste sweet. * Palak Paneer - It tasted like grass. Lacked any in depth flavor. * Garlic Naan - It was so paper thin it could have been a crispy cracker. Do not recommend eating here. Disappointed.

They have like 20 or 30 different types of biryani, and they're all unique. They serve North Indian, South Indian, veg, nonveg, Andhra dishes, pulav (weekends only), they have it covered. Their entrees, dosas, and tandoori menu items are also delicious, and sometimes spicy af. Sometimes I feel that the superb food quality doesn't match the ambiance, which can feel like a loud cafeteria but hey, food is priority #1. After all, if its packed, that means its good. In my experience, they have never told me that they don't have an item available, even though they have a pretty large menu. What they serve is always fresh, which can lead to some delay in service, but the food is worth the wait. Some items are so unique, which gives Hyderabad House Biryani place the edge. We also had a person in our group that is allergic to dairy, so we wanted to make sure her food contained no forms of dairy. The service staff was so helpful in talking through the menu items to make sure we had dairy free food for this person. We ordered garlic naan, Tikka Masala, Saag Mutton, and Dal Gosht! They all were incredible. The mutton and goat were bone-in, which made the flavor so delightful but also made us eat a little slower as we removed the bones. Is was great! Next time we're in the area, we will dine in to experience that.

Very frustrating experience…read more I ordered food online and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, my husband went to pick it up, only to be told it wasn't ready and would take another 15 minutes. I called to cancel the order because of the delay, but they told me it couldn't be canceled and that the food would be ready in five minutes. Five minutes later, my husband went back, and the food still wasn't ready. When I called again, they told me the food was already ready and asked where my husband was parked so they could bring it out. Also the man on the phone said that no one was in the restaurants to pick up the food, when clearly my husband went it. At that point, I was extremely frustrated. We had waited over 45 minutes, and when I asked to cancel the order, they refused and said the food was already made. I don't even believe anymore that the food is ok to eat, so we just threw it out. Very poor communication and customer service. After this experience, I would not recommend this place. Mind that none of them spoke good English and it was extremely hard to understand them. Customer is never right in their eyes. Now I have to dispute the transaction with my bank

There's plenty for both meat eaters and vegetarians to find things. Coming here the first time we weren't sure about the atmosphere. It's actually a lot nicer inside to be honest. The food still isn't crazy expensive for certain things. Also has a bar if wanting cocktails. The food is why people come though. It's about $6 for an appetizer. We got the Hyderabad Onion Samosas. They have unique menu items which make them stand apart from the many Indian spots that have emerged. Competition is healthy, it makes businesses try harder. Some plates were hits, some misses. Their tandoor chicken stands out. It is juicy, smokey, very flavorful, delishhh. They need to leave it in the tandoor for about 3 to 4 more minutes so it cooks to the bone. Pani puri shots and masala soda were great. Their chicken makhanwala was lackluster. Everyone knows that you use tandoori chicken in makhani, they just had thin sliced chicken. It was rich, tomato based, and sweet. The gravy of the malai kofta was rich and silky, kofta itself was okay. Great presentation. Rogan josh was good. They have tons of interesting menu items, so we'll be coming back without our parents to try their more modern fare. Their tres leches ras malai looked the least appetizing, based on how they presented it. Their small plates are definitely worth trying. The combination of a fun atmosphere, paired with their culinary vision make IMLI worth checking out.
