Georgetown hoooo! I had an awesome time at Taste of Georgetown this past Saturday, thanks in part to getting to participate in the flippin' sweet chef showdown challenge. My rockin' teammates, paired with our chef mentor, whipped up a fabulous surf-and-turf dish using the secret ingredient of... RHUBARB! We came in second, but it still feels like we won (or maybe that's just the heat exhaustion talking, hahaha.) Yes, it was hot, but I have to say, as a frequenter of more than my fair share of food festivals in the DMV, Taste of Georgetown really knows what it's doing. The location was perfect, with lots of parking garages on K street right by the entrance to the festival, and there was a great mix of booths. Taste tickets seem a little bit higher priced here than at some other's I've been to, but as long as you choose wisely, you're definitely getting your money's worth. I also have to give a big nod to the Georgetown BID organizers for having a straightup ARMY of trashcans available, not to mention cocktail tables for people to huddle around, as well as lots of cleanup crew on standby. I don't think I've ever attended a CLEANER "Taste of..." event in my life. Kudos! Great idea for the misting tent and banquet tables up on the lawn of the church as well. Overall, I was just really impressed with the overall execution of this event. I'll definitely be back next year!

The location under the highway underpass worked out well considering it was raining and chilly the day they held Taste of Georgetown. Without the overpass to cover us, it wouldn't have been as enjoyable to try to walk around in the rain and eat all the delicious food options! One downside is that some places ran out of food a little more than an hour into the festival. We were looking forward to trying one of the ice cream sandwiches from Baked and Wired, but we figured we'd wait to get dessert after we got another few tastes of main courses, but sadly, when we came back to Baked and Wired they were all out. Also, a few listed participants weren't there when we tried to look for their tent and the event info table thinks they decided to no longer participate after seeing the weather report. Tickets for the Taste were priced at $5 per tasting ticket. I purchased tickets online ahead of time, so we got 4 tickets for $20 and 1 free ticket. When we got to the event, we were quickly able to exchange our voucher we had printed out from pre-purchasing online to actual tickets. Besides the food tents, they also had local stores. We popped by the Athleta tent and were able to get a coupon for a free gift if we shopped same-day in the store. Given that we were going to shop at Athleta anyway later that day, the coupon was perfect and we were able to get a cute, small glass water bottle in a silicone sleeve. Some of my favorite tents were the lobster roll from Luke's Lobster, macarons from Olivia Macaron (which conveniently were packaged in a box so I could take them to eat later), cupcakes from Sprinkles (I opted for the 3 mini cupcakes to try multiple flavors), and a crepe. Overall, a very enjoyable event and a lot of great participating restaurants to try. For the future I will be sure to arrive exactly when it starts and who says you can't have dessert first?!

After many years visiting DC for work I have been to literally every monument, museum and attraction in the DMV area and beyond. At one point I was making trips up to New York City and Philadelphia just to find new things to see. Then DC started having some pretty decent events on weekends and this is definitely one of them. Now I make it a point to check the events calendar before I head over to DC to see what kind of food/wine/beer/music events I can get into. This year was my first at the Taste of Georgetown. It was held under H Street (that's right, under the street in a section of it that is raised). This was a great location because it provided a lot of shade on a pretty hot day. The variety of vendors is excellent. Buy discounted tickets online in advance to save a few $$ but you will likely buy more tasting tickets once you get there and see the staggering variety of food and drinks available. Planning is easy since just about everything costs one ticket (i.e. one ticket for a tasking plate, one ticket for a beer etc). The portions of each were generous and there were truly some great restaurants and bars from the Georgetown area represented.

The location was easily accessible by foot, and the prices were fair, but the planners of this event did not prepare well for the volume of people who attended. The food ran out far too early, the booths and tables were too squished together, and frankly, the site got very claustrophobic for attendees. Free water and bike racks needed to be more easily findable. Taste of Arlington and Taste of Crystal City ran their events much better for business exposure and quality of attendee experience.

The DC Cherry Blossom Bus Tour with Tidal Basin Guided Walk…read more I've been a resident of the DMV for 15 years and welcome the opportunity to show the highlights of D.C. when members of my family come for a visit. My sister Mary lives in Delaware and had long wanted to experience the color and drama of the Cherry Blossom Festival. These visits can be frustrating - we never really know when the blossoms will be in full bloom, and how long they'll be pretty and photogenic. This year (2026) was no different. The DC Cherry Blossom Tour, hosted by USA Guided Tours, was our go-to provider for this outing. After I ordered our tickets for a mid-week 10 a.m. four-hour tour, I received a prompt acknowledgement from TripAdvisor that the reservations were ready. I made the reservation just a few days earlier, so it was great to see the email that acknowledged our tickets and told us where to go to join the tour. The logistics involved in getting to the correct bus were easy: my sister and I showed up at the Navy Memorial, across the street from the National Archives (which is on the Yellow line Metro). A tour representative was already there and did a great job of getting us into the proper queue for our tour (USA Tours had four different tours departing that morning). The tickets were scanned and we were on our way, right on time. Highlights of the tour included walking through the cherry trees with abundant blossoms, photographers everywhere, and really pretty expressions of an early summer day in the District. We could see across the tidal basin to the impressive carved statue of Martin Luther King, Jr., which we headed to after spending the first walking excursion in the tidal basin and then the FDR Memorial. Our guide did an outstanding job of providing backstories and context to the places we visited, including the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Vietnam War Memoria. We had ample opportunities to stretch our legs, take free bottles of water, and use restroom facilities (as the bus did not have one on board). Both driver and guide handled their responsibilities very well, and we all had an excellent opportunity to see the blossoms. And, just as our guide had predicted, a severe thunderstorm rolled through the tidal basin later that day and wiped out 100 percent of the blossoms we enjoyed earlier that day. Luck of the draw!

Even though it was a beautiful event, there were a couple of things that really impact our overall experience. 1. Some of the staff was SUPER RUDE and not really helpful when checking in, there were too many lines and not enough signage directing people where to go based on the ticket purchased. 2. With the book bag giveaway is there was no maps/ wayfinding to help guide people to food trucks and tents allocated to shops and specific food. 3. The pathway to seating on the hill was not accessible for everyone, and the path that was available was NOT blocked off for people to properly walk through. Even the area where we were to go to place the lanterns in the water was in some areas UNSAFE (rocks, boulders). 4. I know this doesn't fall on the event planners themselves but one specific food truck took over an hour for them to get us three items were ordered and still got our order wrong! Overall, I just wish it was better communication on placement maps, way finding signage, and staffing

It's pretty tiny but somehow we ended up spending about 4 hours here, mostly because of my kids. There is a small indoor portion in the church, where there are various vendors mostly selling women's jewelry. That is about 80% of the vendors at least when I visited in 2025. There was a stand selling great olive oil and olives (both of which I purchase) and a stand selling the delicious Greek desserts I basically ate every day while I lived in Astoria, Queens (one of the largest Greek communities in the US). The ladies at the bakery were so friendly, even offering my son a cookie for free (and of course he takes the entire box!). Outside, there is another bakery (with about 4 times the size of the line), and other food stalls. We got a lamb gyro with tzatziki and it was out of this world. There is a tent with music, where some people were dancing and an occasional singer or band would rotate in and out. Also in the tent was a drink vendor where my partner and I enjoyed a glass of white wine on a very hot day. The kids were drawn to the bouncy houses, which included some traditional ones and a blow up slide. It cost $10 per child for use all day. They certainly got their money's worth! There was a sign for face painting and pony rides but I did not see either and the ladies working the desk didn't know when or if they'd actually show up. Overall, a very relaxing spot. Don't expect a huge festival but a relaxed afternoon out or evening. There is also a lovely flower vendor that is a nice place to wander or buy flowers for the spring.

Well, this year, we put it on our calendars well in advance, and made a point to head down for the Parade of Lights. So, first of all - if you haven't heard of it before, the Parade of Lights is on the Potomac...as in, it's a parade of *boats*. The parade starts off in Old Town Alexandria (down by the Torpedo Factory), and ends up on the DC Wharf on Water Street, where all the boats dock, and there is a big awesome after party. We opted to watch from Alexandria, as we weren't really in the mood to deal with drunken revelers (I know, so unusual for me!), and I think we were ultimately glad we did. Although the docks were crowded (seriously, get there early and stake a spot!), the view was perfect. The boats were all decked out in lights, each boat with a different theme (although there should be a drinking game...whenever a boat's theme is "Christmas", you do a shot. You'll be drunk 15 minutes into this thing). So the good: The event started right on time. The kick off was supposed to be at 5:30, and the first boat pulled into view at 5:35. Awesome. Some of the boats are decked out incredibly creatively It's not your usual parade There was a professional radio DJ (I didn't catch which one...Tommy something?) that provided the commentary and filled up the time when the boats lagged behind The not so good: The DJ that was providing the commentary ran out of material about 1/3 of the way through and he started to read off tweets...which I pretty much loathe (even though I'm a huge fan of twitter) Some of the boats really lagged, so there were periods where you would just stand there in the cold waiting for another boat to pull into view It is COLD. It's the beginning of December, on the water, at night. OMG. SO. COLD. All that being said, it's a quirky, off the wall little event, and I love the creativity that the captains put into their boats. Definitely fun and weird.

I'm not sure of the process of selecting which food trucks get to be at Truckeroo, but I wasn't personally impressed by any of the ones there. The lines for these trucks were super long! My friend was starving so we tried to look for a short line and decided to try capital chicken and waffle since their line didn't seem as long as some of the others. I've seen this truck around and figured I might as well give them a try. So after waiting almost 25 minutes (yes I was counting), we were able to place our orders. We both ordered the chicken and fries. My friend got a side of mac n cheese. Then began another lengthy waiting period! Sigh...finally we got our meal. Looked like regular ole chicken fingers and they pretty much were actually. Not impressed at all - was very bland and dry. Good thing I wasn't starving. OMG, the mac n cheese was disgusting - probably the worst I've ever tasted (not exaggerating). Forget trying to find a place to sit at this point. Nothing in sight!! We caught up with the others in our group and walked around. Some ventured off to get drinks. I ran into some folks I hadn't seen in awhile so that was good.
