Attended Awesome Con on Friday night, and while there were highlights, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had essentially paid a hefty entry fee just for the privilege of going shopping. It often felt more like a sprawling comic shop bazaar than a fully integrated convention experience. The Atmosphere & Layout The layout was a bit of a missed opportunity. Everything felt too spread out; condensing the floor plan would have created a much fuller, more energetic atmosphere. As it stood, the "spirit" of the Con was truly carried by the attendees--the cosplay was top-tier and provided the most authentic fan energy of the night. Highlights * Gaming Community: The folks running the card games, Warhammer, tabletop, and arcade sections were incredibly friendly and helpful. This felt like the most interactive part of the floor. * Indie Creators: I was most impressed by the artists and startups. Seeing people publishing their own video games and comics was the highlight of the trip. * The Find: My son picked up #2Land Comics, and they've been a huge hit with him so far.

The convention was awesome. Lots of great costumes, vendors, and panels. Convention was spacious and well-ventilated.

This is my second time at awesome con and it was really unique and amazing to experience. My girlfriend and I cosplayed as Stefani from Steven universe, and we got to watch the cosplay costume contest , see a free drag show, wander through the vendor hall, and play many of the arcade games that they had at the game hall. While there were many panels and autograph singing and celebrity meet ups, we didn't do any of those. Even Steve from Blues Clues showed up this year! It was a Perfect all ages event for your inner nerd ! Huge thank you to Yelp for inviting us :-)

This was such a cool convention! All the merchants were kind and friendly, and I even got to talk about my favorite Pokemon (Charmander) with some collectors. My favorite part was talking to the artists who did live art, and seeing them sketch and draw in person. Can't wait for next year!

Day Three is in the books!! Had a great time listening to panels, watching some short films, exploring the exhibit hall, people watching, and connecting with fellow EliteYelper!

Thanks for the Awesome Con 2024 tickets, Yelp! This was my first comic con, and the experience was good, felt more family friendly, and more low key in comparison to than the other cons that I've been to in the past (magfest, katsucon, otakon.) We enjoyed arcade room and board games on the first floor, and I especially enjoyed watching attendees sing along and play Rock Band. We also played old-timed videos games and learned about new board games. My favorite part of cons are the artist alleys and shopping. The artist alley here is very much similar to the other cons and the hall is filled with artists and merch, so not much less than the other cons, which is great for no long lines! In anticipation of the event, I downloaded the recommended Guidebook app to schedule my day and make a to-do list. The app was super helpful and included a copy of the Awesome Con map. Thanks to Yelp and Awesome Con for an awesome time!

I love AwesomeCon! This was my second year going to this convention and it is the only one I've attended locally so far! I love the exhibition hall and the panels and people go all out with their cosplays. For someone who is an avid anime lover, this convention is my jam. It's also the perfect size!

First time I ever got to attend awesome con! The experience was very interesting! Loved all the cosplays and outfits! Everyone was just having a good time and enjoying it. Had a blast walking around the Artist alley and checking out all the awesome vendors! Got to add a bunch of cute stickers to my collection too! The convention itself was a great experience to try at least once. You get to learn a lot about different fandoms and even connect with gamers! I like that everyone can bond over their favorite fandoms at a convention together. It's located at the Walter E. Convention center and very close to Chinatown. Thank god the building has air conditioning since the event is during the summer and everyone that dressed up won't overheat. The food here however is a bummer. The prices are overly high for very poor quality. I ordered chicken teriyaki with lo mien for almost $20! They didn't even fill the box fully... one Rita's custard cup was $12!! Honestly that's a huge rip off for not even great quality food. Most convention goers did walk down Chinatown to eat instead which I'm sure saved a lot more.

It was my first time at Awesome Con and I thought that it was Awesome!!! It was definitely a good experience. There was lots to see and lots of different guest speakers. There were also a lot of very unique vendors as well as lots of Awesome characters all over which certainly made it fun. I definitely plan on coming back next year.

A place for nerds to be themselves. (I mean that in a good way!) I saw such imaginative and inventive cosplay. It's like walking through an alternate universe. The venue was amazing because it was huge so you can actually breathe and enjoy the vendors. I walked through the aisles and was blown away by the talent of the artists. I walked away with a cute handmade crocheted frog and a bookmark. They have lots of cool celebs to take pictures with and get autographs from. It's expensive so I just walked by to just people watch the celebs. #lifehack

I had the opportunity to attend Awesome Con in 2019. My husband and I had a great time. Wear walking shoes you will need them. We enjoy both the sessions and the shopping. We have been Sci-Fi/Fantasy folks for, well, forever. While we did not go in costume we did wear our fandom t-shirts featuring Dr. Who, Classic Lost In Space, Star Trek, and more. Cons like this are great because you can go and have fun just being you. I love that about this community. We saw Jason Issacs and he was really funny. He answered Harry Potter questions even though he was there to discuss his show, season one of Star Trek Discovery. I'm also a Potterhead. The con is held in Washington DC at the convention center. A huge space. It's not too expensive unless you go VIP. There is also an opportunity to get autographs. Like most similar events you need to pay and wait in line. It's all about who is there signing and who you want to meet. If you have an opportunity to attend I recommend it.

Thank you Yelp for my tixs. I always look forward to this. I came here on Saturday and Sunday. I was surprised to see many vendors. Some were good. Some gave away freebies which was cool. A few activities on the ground floor for free. A few interactive activities for families that were free. Autograph alley, expensive. $90 for an Autograph or a selfie? Some celbs were: Will Wheaton, Giancarlo Esposito, Melissa Joan Hart and her two other cast members from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Salem wasn't there :( However, I cant see myself paying almost a Benjamin for an Autograph or a pic with a celebrity. The tixs aren't cheap. I ďont know how much the celebrity actually gets from that. Food options:( you had to leave the premises and come back. The options there expensive and awful. Top floors had video games consoles that had classic games I love it. Another room had board games. A lot of them! Best part was seeing everyone in costumes!! Thanks Mike B the cool MD CM for my tixs!!

I took my 10 year old with me to enjoy awesome con. This was more his speed than mine, but we had a great time. Friday night was my favorite. Why? It was calm, no lines, no big crowds. However, it did take us a while to figure out how and where to pick up badges. Obviously, not any fault to yelp, but the venue needed more signage. With that being said, all of the staff we encountered were extremely nice. My son got to meet up with some friends, and they got to enjoy the kids' fun areas, build some light sabers, and try many different items throughout the convention center. But boy, was it crowded during the weekend! It was our first time and plan to go again.

Even though it was a beautiful event, there were a couple of things that really impact our overall experience. 1. Some of the staff was SUPER RUDE and not really helpful when checking in, there were too many lines and not enough signage directing people where to go based on the ticket purchased. 2. With the book bag giveaway is there was no maps/ wayfinding to help guide people to food trucks and tents allocated to shops and specific food. 3. The pathway to seating on the hill was not accessible for everyone, and the path that was available was NOT blocked off for people to properly walk through. Even the area where we were to go to place the lanterns in the water was in some areas UNSAFE (rocks, boulders). 4. I know this doesn't fall on the event planners themselves but one specific food truck took over an hour for them to get us three items were ordered and still got our order wrong! It's pretty tiny but somehow we ended up spending about 4 hours here, mostly because of my kids. There is a small indoor portion in the church, where there are various vendors mostly selling women's jewelry. That is about 80% of the vendors at least when I visited in 2025. There was a stand selling great olive oil and olives (both of which I purchase) and a stand selling the delicious Greek desserts I basically ate every day while I lived in Astoria, Queens (one of the largest Greek communities in the US). The ladies at the bakery were so friendly, even offering my son a cookie for free (and of course he takes the entire box!). Outside, there is another bakery (with about 4 times the size of the line), and other food stalls. We got a lamb gyro with tzatziki and it was out of this world. There is a tent with music, where some people were dancing and an occasional singer or band would rotate in and out. Also in the tent was a drink vendor where my partner and I enjoyed a glass of white wine on a very hot day. The kids were drawn to the bouncy houses, which included some traditional ones and a blow up slide. It cost $10 per child for use all day. They certainly got their money's worth! There was a sign for face painting and pony rides but I did not see either and the ladies working the desk didn't know when or if they'd actually show up. Overall, a very relaxing spot. Don't expect a huge festival but a relaxed afternoon out or evening. There is also a lovely flower vendor that is a nice place to wander or buy flowers for the spring.

The DC Cherry Blossom Bus Tour with Tidal Basin Guided Walk…read more I've been a resident of the DMV for 15 years and welcome the opportunity to show the highlights of D.C. when members of my family come for a visit. My sister Mary lives in Delaware and had long wanted to experience the color and drama of the Cherry Blossom Festival. These visits can be frustrating - we never really know when the blossoms will be in full bloom, and how long they'll be pretty and photogenic. This year (2026) was no different. The DC Cherry Blossom Tour, hosted by USA Guided Tours, was our go-to provider for this outing. After I ordered our tickets for a mid-week 10 a.m. four-hour tour, I received a prompt acknowledgement from TripAdvisor that the reservations were ready. I made the reservation just a few days earlier, so it was great to see the email that acknowledged our tickets and told us where to go to join the tour. The logistics involved in getting to the correct bus were easy: my sister and I showed up at the Navy Memorial, across the street from the National Archives (which is on the Yellow line Metro). A tour representative was already there and did a great job of getting us into the proper queue for our tour (USA Tours had four different tours departing that morning). The tickets were scanned and we were on our way, right on time. Highlights of the tour included walking through the cherry trees with abundant blossoms, photographers everywhere, and really pretty expressions of an early summer day in the District. We could see across the tidal basin to the impressive carved statue of Martin Luther King, Jr., which we headed to after spending the first walking excursion in the tidal basin and then the FDR Memorial. Our guide did an outstanding job of providing backstories and context to the places we visited, including the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Vietnam War Memoria. We had ample opportunities to stretch our legs, take free bottles of water, and use restroom facilities (as the bus did not have one on board). Both driver and guide handled their responsibilities very well, and we all had an excellent opportunity to see the blossoms. And, just as our guide had predicted, a severe thunderstorm rolled through the tidal basin later that day and wiped out 100 percent of the blossoms we enjoyed earlier that day. Luck of the draw!

When I realized I'd be passing through Washington, D.C. on my way home from Ocean City during peak…read morebloom, it was a no-brainer--I was stopping to see the cherry blossoms. The National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Tokyo to Washington, D.C., and has grown into a massive, four-week spring celebration that draws more than a million visitors each year. Translation: beautiful? Yes. Peaceful? Absolutely not. Knowing that, I went in with a plan--and more importantly, managed expectations. I was not attempting a full D.C. experience. No monuments tour, no long strolls. The goal was simple: find parking, see some blossoms, take it in, and retreat before my patience expired. My GPS dropped me right into what I can only describe as ground zero for organized chaos--people everywhere, strollers everywhere, dogs everywhere, construction sprinkled in for good measure. I took a few deep breaths, smiled in the sunshine, and found a parking spot that may or may not have been intended for fishing access. Honestly, unclear. I parked anyway and accepted my fate. Worth it because once I stepped into the bloom areas, it really was as beautiful as everyone says! The trees were stunning--soft, delicate, almost glowing in the sunlight. The blossoms looked so fragile it felt like they might disappear if you touched them. And despite the crowds, there was something really special about the energy. People were fully in it--taking photos, FaceTiming friends, dressed up for full-on photo shoots, just soaking in the moment. It was chaotic, yes--but also kind of magical. I wandered for a bit, took my photos, had my "okay, I've seen it with my own eyes" moment...then promptly made my exit while I still had my sanity intact. One practical tip: if you're visiting with a group, pick a "meet back here" spot before you wander off. With the sheer number of people and distractions, it would be incredibly easy to get separated while you're all off admiring different views. Choose a landmark or meeting point while you're still together--you'll thank yourself later if anyone gets turned around. If you don't do crowds--like, really don't do crowds--this is probably not your scene. But if you can tolerate a little chaos for something truly beautiful? This absolutely deserves a spot on your once-in-a-lifetime list. And for the record...no parking ticket. A birthday miracle!

I'm not sure of the process of selecting which food trucks get to be at Truckeroo, but I wasn't personally impressed by any of the ones there. The lines for these trucks were super long! My friend was starving so we tried to look for a short line and decided to try capital chicken and waffle since their line didn't seem as long as some of the others. I've seen this truck around and figured I might as well give them a try. So after waiting almost 25 minutes (yes I was counting), we were able to place our orders. We both ordered the chicken and fries. My friend got a side of mac n cheese. Then began another lengthy waiting period! Sigh...finally we got our meal. Looked like regular ole chicken fingers and they pretty much were actually. Not impressed at all - was very bland and dry. Good thing I wasn't starving. OMG, the mac n cheese was disgusting - probably the worst I've ever tasted (not exaggerating). Forget trying to find a place to sit at this point. Nothing in sight!! We caught up with the others in our group and walked around. Some ventured off to get drinks. I ran into some folks I hadn't seen in awhile so that was good. Unless they find a different venue and a larger selection of food trucks, I'm in no hurry to go back to Truckeroo!
