Wanting to spend some time outoors, I took a walk downtown and ended up at the courthouse. Since it was Sunday, the building was locked; however, I took in all the historical markers and plaques on the premises. If I think about it, I may head back sometime this week in order to check out the inside. In addition to the courthouse, there are also other landmarks of note: the TCC nursing campus, Hertiage Park, and Ripley Arnold Plaza. Walking the grounds would make for a great family affair. Don't miss out on this city landmark.

I've been to the courthouse a few times. Last time was for a probate hearing. It's a very interesting building. The pictures on the walls are the best part. If you are coming, whether on business or just to wander around, be forewarned that you will need to pass through a metal detector... And possibly take of your shoes (if you have steel toes). Lastly I would be remiss if I did not mention there is a small museum, and that this is the building you see at the start of the TV show, "Walker, Texas Ranger" Bottom line: If you like history, it's worth a peek. I just wish there were better view options (from the upper floors). The view from the steps, on the north side of the building, is quite majestic.

Used to be privately owned, but was given to the city of Fort Worth because there was "no heir atarrant." Get it. Get it. This is a beautiful old style courthouse. You can find the county clerk here and a few courts. Some of the judges are as old school as the building. The clerks are always nice. I've had personal experience at the Tarrant County Courthouse but I won't tell you exactly what that's about. I didn't do anything particularly bad. Luckily my sexy girl is a registered lawyer yes I'm serious. Ivy league-educated too. So that helped out a lot. Welcome to America. Anyway it's a really nice Courthouse.

Built in 1895, this Renaissance Revival courthouse resembles the Texas State Capitol. It is constructed from pink Texas granite and cost over $400,000 to build. It can also be seen in the Chuck Norris TV show Walker, Texas Ranger.

Yeah the courthouse is not a night club or a restaurant but your tax dollars pay for it therefore it is a business. Today after my seminar, I went downtown. I realized I needed to drop a kid off at the pool if you know what I mean and where better to do so than in the edifice sponsored by my tax dollars? I help pay the water and electric for that joint so I'm entitled. Actually I learned one random day in Waxahatchie that courthouses have really clean ladies rooms so I decided to try my luck again. After going through the security gate and having my purse scanned I looked for the ladies room. Sure enough, the Tarrant County Courthouse has a nice ladies room. Clean, spacious, empty, state of the art automatic flushing throne and a Texas pink marble vanity. Booyah. After taking care of nature, I explored the building. Not real exciting but if you like vintage photographs there is a nice montage on the first floor of early Fort Worth circa 1897 to 1940 or so including construction of the courthouse which is courthouse number 3. The photo of courthouse no. 2 showed it wasn't nearly as impressive as building 3. And wow was Fort Worth a rough lookin' town around 1890. mercy. Dirt roads and shacks but a huge fancy courthouse. Weird. Second floor the photos continue and I like the second floor ones the best. Vintage shots of Crowley, Burleson, Benbrook, Grapevine.. really cool. Third floor is photos of dead commissioners which aren't very interesting but if you go up there you can get up close and personal with the inside of the courthouse dome. No, it's not the Austin courthouse level of fancy but it's still nice to say you looked at it. I also discovered a "telephone room". You can use their phone to make any local call FREE. No 35 cents. Free. Yeah I know everyone's got a cell phone now but the idea of calling out for a pizza on the county's dime amuses me. Upon exit there's a little room called the 1895 room with a diorama of when Fort Worth was still a fort. Frankly.. it is really boring. A window of historic Masonic Lodge crap? really? zzzzzzzzzzzz So... go in the courthouse. Use the facilities and go see the free photographic art exhibit. Well not exactly free.. your tax dollars pay for the building upkeep.

Had to go to the records room at the courthouse. So I was a tad bit annoyed that I couldn't do what I needed done online, but I can't blame the building for that can I? The building is awesome and beautiful. Security at public buildings to me is both annoying and sad, but I guess understandable. The security line was actually fairly efficient for a security line. The people there were helpful because I had no idea where I was going and when I got there the people in the records room were very helpful. The building itself is old cool and definitely a throw back to previous generations when they actually built cool buildings made out of real materials and not particle board. Most reasons to go to the courthouse probably aren't good ones, jury duty, court, or something else but it is a really cool building.

Easy to get to and park and clean. There are clear instructions on where to go for what you are needing and staff seemed to be friendly.

I must confess I've been here a few times since moving to Texas nearly 20 years, which luckily has not that often. While it seems easy to give a low rating, I've actually had (and observed) some good experiences here. For me it was a traffic ticket, that resulted in two options, probation or a driving course. Either would mean the ticket drops off my record. With the 90 day probation, I would need to pay the full ticket and court costs. With the driving course, I would actually save money, but it meant 6 hours of on-line training. An added benefit of the course is that (some) insurance companies will lower your rate. Only after I chose the education option did I learn my insurance company (Allstate) does not give a discount for taking the course. So now it sucks... No real benefit to suffer through an on-line class. So I dragged my feet and the deadline approached (you have about three months to complete the course). The deadline was less than a week away for me to complete the course. The first stop for course info is to find out who's approved. The list is at http://www.TEA.STATE.TX.US/DRIVE. Both course providers (Courses / Driving Safety / Locations: Online) and stats (Courses / Driving Safety / Driving Safety Course Completions) for the providers is listed. It's quite an extensive list, so I was going to use the stats to focus on the most popular. As I started to research the course providers, I hit a stumbling block. Texas requires that the certificate to be mailed to the student. This can take 5 to 10 business days, and since it's hard to tell where the certificate is mailed from, getting it in time may be a problem. Of course it can be over-nighted, but that's going to cost extra. So I decided I'm going back to court and see if I can switch to probation... So now I'm back in the court building... Sitting in courtroom 5, waiting for my turn with the judge. As I wait, I observe something that impressed me: A teenager is here for a curfew violation. He's ready to plead guilty, pay the ticket and move on. Here's where the judge does something cool. He tells the kid if he does that, he'll have a class C misdemeanor on his record, and then the judge does something very nice. He gives the kid advice on how not to have that black spot on his record (probation or teen court, each with its own pros and cons). I though that was seriously cool. So now it's my turn and it turns out that they don't usually let you switch from the course option to probation. Maybe it because I dressed nice (it's always good to show the court respect), or maybe the judges are actually pretty cool, but I did get it changed, paid my fine, and got out of there. Bottom line: Everyone in the building, from the guards, to the bailiff, to the judges, to the people working at the cashier counter were genuinely helpful. It sucks to be here, but play it cool and I think you'll be OK.

Fort Worth has a really pretty downtown, and the color scheme seems to resemble yellow Christmas lights. I really liked it a lot. It's one of the prettiest downtowns I've seen. There is an excellent bubble tea shop here named Fruitealicious (other locations in Carrollton and North burbs of Dallas), and some other great food spots worth hitting around the area, although the suburbs north of Dallas are definitely the best destination in the DFW area for food. The best food and drinks: In DFW get Meerut Kebab - the best Chicken Boti and Karahi you'll ever have. That's the top 5 in Houston place, btw. Amazing service too. https://www.yelp.com/biz/meerut-kabob-house-dallas Burger Xtreme is good, too - a very good burger indeed. Dumplings from "Dumpling" inside H-Mart in Carrollton is excellent. And Quoc Bao's Shredded Pork Banh Mi might be the best of its kind in the whole country. Fort Worth is friendlier than Dallas, and I actually had my second best concert of all time here which was at the Montgomery Plaza - a ritzy fancy overpriced shopping mall in a reclaimed industrial area. I sold over 50 CDs for only the second time. It's by far the biggest and best concert I've ever played in a large metropolitan area. Thank you For (what it's) Worth, Fort Worth.
