Eddie has been my go to tailor for a while now. Diesel Jeans, Hugo Boss suits, (ok, i have a limited wardrobe, but I know what works for me) he's been consistently great. I've taken dozens of pieces to Eddie, and i've been clear and reasonable about my requests. And its been all good. I am about to take 4 more suits to him. I check the hours on yelp, and I saw the negative reviews. First, There are limits as to what ANY tailor can do. Fabric and thread cannot extend beyond the constraints of the laws pf physics. I would imagine that they have upwards of 20-40 clients daily. As of 2/16/15, I read all the negative reviews on yelp (1-2*) They seem to be about: 1) Taking a bridesmaids dress in 3-4 sizes, complaint: dress not snug enough ((good luck with that, groomsmen) 2) having a dress shortened, complaint: price ($20), and not short enough (Are they ever, really?) 3) needed to have dress sleeves shortened on NYE, unclear about holiday hours (what, he wasn't open till 9pm on NYE??) 4) original hem jeans, $15 cost and wrong color thread (Somewhere, I hear birds chirping) 5) skirt shortening, $25 (price) 5 one to two star reviews. These reviews are in my opinion based on unreasonable requests, and I don't know if they would EVER be satisfied. For eddy and his staff to earn five stars, they would have to bring in a dress 3-4 sizes, be open on NYE, and work at less than 10 bucks an hour. If 15-25 bucks is too much for your alterations, you're living in the wrong city. read more

I love this place! The guy who runs it is so nice and sweet. When I started my job I found out I have to wear a suit everyday (it was biz cas at my last place) so I showed up at 2:30 pm on a Saturday armed with 7 suits that all needed to be hemmed in the pants, skirts and jackets. He stayed open late to accommodate me and helped me make sure that all of the suits fit properly not just in the length. He actually pointed out to me some other seams that needed to be taken in/let out to make sure the suit fit properly. A week later I had all of my suits back and in perfect condition. Since then I have taken other items including jeans there and he makes sure every time that they look as though they were originally made that length and did not need 5 inches cut off of them to fit me. Eddie is a Master Tailor with a lot of experience hailing from the Philippines and coming from a country where tailoring is based more on skill than machines. He served 15 years being a master tailor at Nordstrom and finally manages his own shop now. Everytime i bring him a project it would only take 5 minutes for him to scope what needs to be done. Upon the time of pick up my needs are always met if not exceeded. Tapering jeans and original hemming. Darning and patching heavy selvedge denim. If you think your suit fits good make sure you bring it to him to make it look better. His prices are very competitive and he works quickly. Do yourself a favor and see Eddie. So let me get this, you can alter my clothes the same day, cheaper than at Nordstroms, but at the same quality (since you work there also) and with easier parking (on Taraval) and closer to my house (within 10 blocks)? He's quick, professional, and personable. Shop is right next to the MUNI and easy parking. Turnover in 1 day to take the waist in and taper dress pants. This is based on price quote only. I went in today and asked to have my dress altered. I got it on clearance at Nordstrom Rack for $40 that I wasn't in love with it but thought it would do for a wedding I'm going to. The man that worked here wanted to look at the dress before I tried it on to give me a quote. I actually appreciated this because I don't like to waste time either. I need the long dress shortened and the bust taken in a bit. He said it would be $50 to shorten it and $80 to take in the bust. Then he looked at me and asked if I wanted to think about it. $130 is a lot of money. So yes, I would like to think about it. Or maybe he thought I didn't have enough money since I had a backpack on and his tailor shop is right by Lincoln HS. I thought I would just return the dress and get a nice $170 dress instead. On the way home, I stopped by Brigette cleaners on ECR in San Bruno. I had my wedding dress altered there in 2006 and I think they did everything for about $80, and it looked fine, no complaints. A lady at Brigette told me to put it on and she pinned everything up and said it would about $50-60. Sold! I can't compare the quality of work between the two shops, but I had a pleasant experience with Bridgette's 9 years ago and they are obviously still in business. Maybe high SF rent causes this place to charge more than double what the other shops do? read more

Went in bc the Yelp reviews were great. Eddie - the proprietor - recognized me. Said I looked familiar. Sure dude. Turns out he worked in the tailor shop at Nordstrom for fifteen years before hanging his shingle. I worked my way through college on the sales floor at Nordstrom... FIFTEEN YEARS AGO. Then it all came back to me. They called him "fast Eddie" bc he got tailoring jobs done quick and without any hassle. I brought him three pairs of men's pants, all AG, so not cheapies, and he did original hems (i.e. with the top stitch so they still look like jeans and not dress slacks) for $10 a pair. Done in an hour. Couldn't recommend him more. read more

After my transformation from an overweight blob of a human to a physically full functioning slim individual (lost about 40 lbs), I had to get a crap load of my work clothes brought in. I brought in one suit, approximately 5 slacks and 1 pair of jeans (they were expensive jeans and economically makes more sense to pay the $40 to bring in than to buy new pair). Eddie did a great job on each piece of clothing. Two months after the tailoring and I have no problems. Also - he had a pretty quick turnaround. I think the suit I brought in two days before an important business meeting and he rushed it for me. The only way they could be any better is if they actually helped me loose the weight. read more

Although getting your clothes altered so that they fit you properly is a perfectly normal and reasonable thing to do, I 've always shyed away from it because it seemed like such a terribly grown-up thing to do. But I finally got sick of the hem of my trousers pants dragging and snagging and overall looking looking sloppy. The man who took care of me was fast and efficient, I was in and out in a flash. I thought it was rather endearing how he kept running back and forth between me and something he was working on at his sewing machine whenever I went to change into a different pair of pants, which only takes me a few seconds. Everything was all neatly pressed and ready for me when I cam back to pick them up. If I ever decide to step further into adulthood and buy a nice suit I would come here again. read more

I had some very expensive pieces of clothing that I needed hemmed, taken in & altered - he had 7 pieces of clothing done within a week. He also took a pair of old jeans (I can't get myself to get rid of them, they are my favorite) & turned them into skinny jeans for me since the bottoms were all torn up - original hems & all! The lady on the phone said they did however I needed to give them 1 hour to do it. Well.....an hour later, I picked up my pants and it was only $10! I came to see Eddie for the first time this summer and was very pleased with his work. He was able to hem three pairs of pants with only a 1-2 day turn around. I'm sure if I had been able to wait, he could have done them the same day. He was very professional and approachable - a quality I appreciate very much in those I do business with. Been coming here for years and it was always the place to go if you needed something done with tailoring. But ever since the owners son has been around trying to learn the business the customer service has been (excuse my language) SHIT. Before the prices were reasonable but now they have raised their prices and I was wondering why? Then son come out and starts swearing at me almost wanting to fight. The dad had to restrain him and to calm down. I think the son needs to understand that this is a industry of customer service and if he is going to treat customers like that then for sure they will be going out of business. Rude, expensive, and rude. There are places in Fidi that are faster, cheaper, and you're actually greeted by someone that smiles. He was going to charge me $120 for hemming two dresses. These dresses don't have lining, it's literally a cut and sew job. I'm sure it's pretty simple. He didn't even look at the material or the stitching before quoting me that price and was about to charge me more because I needed it done quickly in 3 days instead of 2 weeks (which I kinda get if he's swamped) but $120 is fcking appalling for the work I was asking him to do. I'm so lucky to live a block away from a true professional, and quick tailor. This is my fourth time here and have had everything from pants to silk blouses being altered (I mean, re-invented to fit my short torso) I'm only 5'00" so finding a tailor who knows what they are doing is important and they know what they are doing, they keep the integrity of the garment that needs to be altered. I'm also grateful that Eddie knows his pants too....I came in to have my Juicy Coutoure velour pants hemmed and he asked me if I had washed them yet. I told him "no," so he educated me on how after the first wash, Juicy pants shrink almost an inch and he gave me his suggestion to go a longer on the pants in anticipation for the shrinking after my first wash. I think that Eddie the owner/tailor is a great guy and does try to tell everyone that he is an amazing tailor. For what it is worth he is a decent tailor, but he is inconsistent and somewhat unreliable. I have had two experiences with him: once, adding buttons to shirts, and then again having a suit tailored. Both times he did not deliver by the time that he promised to finished. And in regards to the more simple job of adding buttons to my shirt, the work was done poorly. The buttons broke and were placed in the wrong place. I had to take several of the shirts back. Although Eddie may have used to work at Nordstom as a tailor, I would advise going see Victor at 123 Mission downtown - Celebrity Alterations. read more

Eddie is my go-to tailor in the city. I own way too many suits and change my taste in how they should fit often. Eddie is both a magician with stitching but also has an eye and will tell you when you shouldn't do something. I got a little carried away with the slim fit craze a while back and he told me any more trim and I'd look like a sausage in my coat. You'd walk right by the shop without a second glance, don't let it fool you. I've trusted him with everything from an very expensive bespoke suit to a fast turn-around wedding job. I took my jeans back to Taraval Tailors because I couldn't let them charge me $15 for a crappy 'original hem' job and not do anything about it. So, I took the jean back with a pair of nicely hemmed jeans for comparison. They took the jean back to re-hem without any complaint or attitude. Finally got the jean back today and although it does not look like I had bought it at that length (thread does not match - the one used was darker than the light grey thread used in the rest of the jeans), it is a hell of a lot better than what they had handed me back originally. I'm upping their rating since they re-hemmed without any issues and did a solid job. But since the thread color isn't the same, their hours are ridiculous (10AM-4PM mon-fri, 10AM-3PM sat), and for all the trouble i had to go through, I am only upping to 2 stars. read more

So after reading all these great reviews I was excited about finding a place closer to my neighbor and decided to go in and check him out for myself. I walked in and he was busy, so I said "hello" to make sure he heard me walk in... he greeted me with a nice smile and came over to me. I asked him how much it would be to take in a skirt. He said 25 bucks (which is way more than the cost of the actual skirt) because it would be "a lot of work"... so I opted to not take it there. He also brags about how cheap he gets it done for such good workmanship! I've seen the job on his jeans, and it's up to par. So one day, I told him I needed to get some dress pants hemmed and brought in at the waist. Of course, my boyfriend knew who to recommend me to. Brought him a pair of ksubi's that needed to be hemmed so I requested original hem and asked if he could have it done by the end of the day (keep in mind it's Christmas Eve) and he happily obliged and said to drop it off as soon as possible to give him a few hours. Jeans were dropped off a little after 12 and were done by 3 as promised when he quoted an ETA. The jeans look amazing and with the original hem in tact, you honestly can't even tell that the jeans were altered and they have all the original distress on the bottoms. This is my #1 place to go for alterations to my clothes, especially with repairs. Two of my Levi's jeans had crotch blowouts and I went to Eddie to repair them. Not only did he repair them, he reinforced them with strong, denim patches. "These will last forever" he chuckled as he handed them to me. Levi's aren't cheap so having Eddie repair them was perfect. Came in for a quick and easy tailor job on a suit pant and sportcoat. Just to slim the pant and to shorten the sleeves. Did a great job on the blazer sleeve as well as the pant. No complaints.
