First off, if you're not really looking for this place, it's a little hard to find, but once you do…read moreyou will be coming back! This is a casual place that makes you feel like you are in someone's back yard. Fold out tables and plastic ware make for easy cleanup, but don't let that put you off! Hubby and I visited for some early afternoon lunch, and it did not disappoint! Specials written on the blackboard were fast sellers mostly with people ordering take out trays. The smothered porkchops in a single meal were enough for 2; heavy, smothered in brown gravy and flat out delicious! Paired with sweet potato casserole and fried okra (my choices) I only wish I wore stretchy pants. That food is for certain some kind of stick to your ribs (and your butt too) that you just can't say no to. If you leave hungry, that's on you.

Came in after seeing the restaurant on a Google search. After looking at the pictures, the price of…read morea meal looked to be around $10 for a meat and 2 sides. If that was wrong I couldn't have imagined it being more than $15. We got the chicken that came with rice and gravy which was decent. The Mac and cheese was okay but didn't seem homemade. The sweet potato casserole had the look and consistency of baby food. While the lady helping us was real nice in the beginning, for some reason it felt like there was a shift. It was supposed to come with a complimentary dessert which was not offered. We chose to pay the bill with cash even though it seemed like we were being taken advantage of. One meal and 2 waters was $28. I left there very disappointed and wouldn't encourage anyone to eat there.

Southern food includes Meat-and-Three restaurants, barbeque, fried ANYthing, fresh caught fish, and…read morehunted game. Hominy, hush puppies, cornbread, grits, Alabama white sauce on any meat, especially smoked chicken, are all popular in Alabama. BBQ is practically a religion in the South! As former certified Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) certified judges, my husband and I completed the training and paid the fees to be certified. The "KCBS way" is different from a lot of people's preferences in that, for example, a BBQ rib should actually have some "pull" to it, meaning, when you bite into it, your mouth should leave a mark in the rib. This means "fall off the bones" ribs are not KDBS quality, despite how many love that rib consistency. The KCBS judges slots fill up so quickly and required us to travel at our own cost and we did not judge any KCBS events. Back to Southern food. Deep fried double Oreos are one of the many fried foods here in Huntsville, and Melt restaurant features them on their menu. Meat-and-Three restaurants feature a meat (usually fried pork chop, meatloaf, BBQ, fried catfish, country fried steak/chicken) and three sides (fried okra, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked potato, potato salad, cole slaw, French fries) and bread options such as cornbread, rolls, hush puppies. While Southern Cooking is absolutely delicious, I have to limit it because lets face it, it is high in calories and cholesterol. When I do indulge, it's shrimp and grits, pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, and fried whole okra.

I like to get my fruit here because it is often locally sourced and very fresh. The staff is always helpful and cooperative. Sometimes it's pretty busy because of tourists, but everyone is always kind.

This casual buffet is off the beaten path. Not off the main highway. So it may be a bit of challenge to get there. It is not purely soul food. That is why I said it is more southern style food. But you will find notable examples of soul food on the buffet choices. I was amazed to find turkey necks and rutabaga as one of many delicious dishes. You never see that unless you search for it. If you never had it. I encourage you to try it out and form your opinion on them. It is a great atmosphere and decent size restaurant. They have plenty of parking spaces in the front and back of the restaurant. I ask you proceed with caution. You have to time it right on Sundays. The place is very busy and hard to find a parking spot and a table due to the church crowd. Once they leave, they have plenty of space. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It may not seem like they do not have enough staff. However, they do very well and great customer service. Both at the front desk and at your table. The outside tables are mainly booths with an interesting view of the outside. They also have a unique little hook to hang your purse or jacket on the outside of the table. The inside of restaurant has regular tables and chairs. They can easily accommodate your large party. However, may take some time to arrange the right conditions for you and your guests. They definitely handicap accessible dining and especially for the little ones. The tables regular with chairs with some padding. If you want better seats. I encourage you to sit in the booth. They accept cash and cards. First responders and military discount with valid ID. I believe they do discount for others. Please refer to the website for details and more information. Great choice of your in the area and cannot decide on what to eat and do not want to cook. Great food and great staff!

The chef that took over cooking duties has given several cooking demonstrations on local channels, (in fact, I think the restaurant got an update to its name - "Nelson's Barnyard Buffet") so we decided it was time to give them another try. The food quality is SO IMPROVED since the last time we went. We frequent many AYCE buffets in the Mobile and Baldwin county areas. So, we know the good ones, the bad ones - the consistent ones and the inconsistent ones. In the three times we've recently been to Nelson's Barnyard Buffet, the food has been consistently excellent. Service and cleanliness are spot on. I'm GLAD this place is a bit of a drive, for us, as overeating is practically unavoidable, there. For AYCE Country cooking, (mostly country cooking) this place is at the top of our list. (It even beats Saraceno's (our favorite AYCE Buffet, in Baldwin County) Try it. You won't leave hungry.
