I have had Dr Dabo as my pcp for about a year now. Everything seemed fine until I started getting migraines. Dr Dabo began by prescribing me what I later found out to be children's doses of migraine medication. To no surprise they didn't work. He then prescribed me Valium and dilaudid. My pharmacist and I agreed these were not appropriate. So I requested alternate meds because I didn't want to take benzodiazepines or opioids to treat my migraines. His response was 3 more Valium prescriptions... He then gave me a referral to neurology. I called 2-3 times a week to check on my referral because I was still experiencing daily migraines. I ended up picking it up in person and dropping it off myself. On the paperwork I can see that they've been sending it to the wrong fax number after I tried to give them the correct one multiple times. 1 month of migraines later and my neurologist tells me I need an adults dose of my medication and to ask Dr Dabo to update the prescription. He refused and told me to ask her for anything I need. Not to mention he is impossible to get a hold of because the poor acupuncturist answers all of his phone calls and leaves messages for him that he doesn't respond to. Skip this "Doctor" read more

Dr. Dabo has an excellent chairside manner and struck me as a knowledgeable physician. I was impressed that he not only figured out my condition immediately and provided a prescription that finally worked, he also took the time to call and let me know that my lab values were within normal limits. As a busy clinician myself, I really appreciated that phone call! Most doctors do not take the time to follow up due to lack of time, more pressing priorities, etc. I could tell he genuinely cared, even after many years on the job. Dr. Dabo is a wonderful doctor! I have been a patient of his for the past 2 years and he truly listens to you AND he will put a smile on your face even when you are feeling sick. Dr. Dabo and his receptionist, Beatrice, will always find a way to fit you into his schedule when you need an appointment. Another great thing is that he accepts TRICARE insurance which is great for our military family! Also, I started seeing Dr. Tom who shares the office with Dr. Dabo. Visit: I have not been in for a physical for a while so I figured it was time for a general check up. Dr. Dabo was prompt and didnt keep me waiting long. He listened to my story and assesed my general health and recommended a full spread of bloodwork and gave reasonable diagnosis for a few other issues. Pleasent to speak with and very reasonable in his diagnosis/prescription, felt that he paid attention well and wasnt distracted as I have experienced doctors who cant wait to get out of the room and move on to the next patient, leaving you with a feeling of unimportance, that is not the story with Dr. Dabo. Semmed knowledgeable about a variety of issues and was able to recomend a few specific medications to try for minor issues. Did not feel pressured by his prescriptions, he suggested I try them then come back after a certain period so he can evaluate if the treatments are appropriate. Office: Easily accessible from the street side, inside a small business square shared with other medical offices. Shared with an acupuncture practice that burns incense or herbs as part of the treatment, be prepared for an herbal scent, not offensive just differen.t Parking: 2 spots for Unit 1E in the rear alley. I found Dabo pretty luckily, I went through my approved aetna network and found the doc with the most experience closest to me... after 4 yrs with Doc Dabo I'm thankful for the internet He's professional, takes the time to discus everything with you, is thorough in his explanations and even walks you through potential financial scenarios. The only doctor I've had that came close to his level of service was a specialist he recommended me to after I broke my wrist. The office a little small/random and he's only open MWF but I guess you don't have to do much when people come back and you provide great service. read more

I need to change my doctor asap. Doctor Dabo hasn't been helpful at all. His office stinks and has weird music and super old smelly couches. He is super hard to understand (don't go there if you have a hard time understanding weird accents). I called an obgyn I wanted to visit, they said I needed a referral. I called Dr. Dabo's office and the receptionist said I should come over to get the referral. I went to the office, made a payment, and Dr. Dabo didn't make the referral for me! He said he wouldn't even attempt to do it (lazy?) because I should look into the doctors in his own network (he gave me a list of 5 options I could find online anyway, none of them associated with UCSD Medical Center, which is where I'd like to deliver my baby). My experience with him sucks all around. He wasn't helpful the first time I went there either. Just sent me to get blood work and end of the story. He said he would refer my husband to a specialist and didn't. Both times I visited his office, I had to wait 40 min + to see him. Furthermore, parking is not easy, you would think there is a parking lot behind his office but nothing! You have to parallel park on Grand Ave! Where traffic is heavy. Parking spots don't abound either, after all it is Pacific Beach. The entrance to the plaza is gated and sometimes you can get in because the gate is opened and sometimes you can't. I got in before my husband and 5 min later he called me saying he couldn't get in and there was no Dr. Dabo on the directory to ring the bell to his office, so I had to get out of the doctor's room (I was waiting for the doctor) and go open the door for my husband. Terrible service. I highly discourage people from choosing him. read more

Reading through the reviews below, I'm genuinely shocked and appalled that some people have given Dr Dabo bad reviews. He literally saved my life when I was going through the worst health crisis I've ever had to face. He was super reactive and diligent, ordering labs, referring us to specialists when needed, and following up - even when he didn't have to. He called me many times after surgery to check in and see how I was doing, and he was always available when my husband & I had questions or needed reassurance. The fact that some people bring up his accent is downright backwards. As for the decor of the office, well, it is somewhat dated and the place could do with a makeover, but don't let it fool you into believing that these people aren't competent. read more

I really love doctors who are straight forward and don't bs around. I have never before had a doctor i wasn't related to or who was a close family friend, so I was relieved to find a doctor i was comfortable with on my first try. Never hard to get an appt and great about keeping you informed, and i trust what he says. I was a little thrown off when I first walked in Dr. Dabo's office, because it wasn't like other offices I have been to. It smells like incense and everything seemed a little old. But after meeting Dr. Dabo, and experiencing a doctor who actually listened to me, checked me thoroughly, and diagnosed me carefully, none of that other stuff mattered. I moved out to San Diego from the midwest where I had the worlds best family doctor. I was a little nervous trying to find a doctor in San Diego for random stuff. I'm in good health but it's always nice to have a trusting doctor to rely on if ya need anything. I had an appointment with Dr Dabo this morning and couldn't be happier. What a genuinely nice man. Also ensured that I got a 7 day supply of my prescription to hold me over before my appointment with a a specialist the next week. This place is a lifesaver! I've been twice for my medical needs, once after returning from overseas and another for eating something questionable. Both times, parking was easy and there was no wait. I literally walked in, signed in and was helped a few minutes later. The offices are super nice and look new. The staff are all very nice and accommodating. I am a retired nurse practitioner and pretty picky about choosing physicians. Dr. Dabo is highly intelligent, knowledgeable, up to date and such a nice guy! His practice isn't huge, so he has time to listen to patients, explain everything and even research additional data.... plus you don't have to wait weeks or even days to get an appointment. I was a bit uncertain first because of the strange smell in the office. After some minutes the smell becomes really nice though. Also when i met doctor dabo, he did not look likt the kind of doctor you would imagine... BUT he listens to everything you say very carefully, and apparently knows a lot about what he is doing. Dr Dabo was on my Insurance list and I chose him because I live in PB were his office is located some 4 years ago.I just read some very negative yelps that Dr Dabo doesn't deserve at all! I chose this doctor due to the good ratings on yelp. When I got to the office, it was pretty outdated and smelled like cigarette smoke, with a sign on the wall that said please excuse the smell. When I was with the doctor, I told him I was having neck pain (I have degenerative disc disease) twice he asked me if I had an injury and I explained to him what happened each time. He ordered an X-ray and stated that I had no history of injuries. After the results were in, I called several times to have a follow up apt, which since he's my PCP, i needed to go back for any referrals. Each time I was told the doctor was busy and I received no calls. After several weeks of trying to contact them, I had to change PCPs. read more

I can't commiserate with my friends who constantly complain about their doctors either not being available or trying to sell them on botox or some other useless crap. If you are seeking a doctor who genuinely cares about his patients and goes ENTIRELY out of his way to give them the best service possible, Dabo is your guy. I have been a patient for about a year and after a series of flawless appointments and various positive interactions the first hiccup occurred last week - as in any business. This 'hiccup' was a miscommunication on both ends involving setting a time for me to pick up a prescription and alas, I was not able to pick it up during their office hours thanks to my work schedule. After a series of frantic after-hours phone calls to his receptionist/wife regarding a prescription I needed, Dr. Dabo offered to write the prescription himself AND deliver it to MY pharmacy on a Saturday (meaning I would not be charged for a doctor's visit as well). His wife, after patiently dealing with my garbled gibberish and hysterical questions, calmly relayed information and continued to offer EXCELLENT customer service on a Friday evening. I knew I had a great doctor, but I did not know I had such a client-focused husband/wife team that truly puts their patient's needs first and exudes professionalism in all things. Dr. Dabo has been wonderful. If it's an emergency, which most doctor visits are, he can always find a time to see you that day. He even came in on a Sunday to see my son who had a terrible earache. I just found this doctor and couldn't be happier. The doctor is really laid back and makes you feel really comfortable. He really wants to help you. The office is super laid back with weird hookah music playing, very different, but cool. I didn't have insurance and it was relatively cheap compared to other places. read more

I would not recommend this doctor. I was wrongly overdosed with thyroid medication which has led to a series of other health issues.
