IV sedation is the way to go. I closed my eyes and before I knew it I was finished and waking up. I'm recovering now with little discomfort. I can't thank them enough for their exceptional care.

Dr Englehardt did a good job excising a large wisdom tooth, in a delicate spot near sinuses, with no problems or side effects to report a week after the procedure. I had general, not local anesthesia. You will want to prepare for that decision and know what anesthesia and pain medicine you prefer. The one slight negative was on the day of the procedure, we had to go through that decision all that again. The combination of versed and propopil(?) worked well for me the 15 minutes I was "out"- virtually no down time recovering. I did not want fentanyl because of all the bad press about that. The staff was courteous and got the details right, except for the one encounter on day-of in the Garner office where they asked again about anesthesia, like nothing had been decided before. It took a lot of skill to get out a delicately placed wisdom tooth and Dr Engelhardt and his assistant seem to have done an *excellent* job.

Nu Image Surgical & Dental Implant Center - NU Image estimate. More work and much more expensive than second opinion periodontist.

I cannot recommend NU Image. I learned two things. One, always get a second opinion. Two,…read moreout-of-network providers sometimes cost much less. Pros: Bryan the surgical assistant at NU Image was very patient and kind and went above and beyond in multiple ways. Cons: The NU Image periodontist recommended extra treatment and wanted to sedate me unnecessarily. They cost 3-4 times as much as the highly-rated periodontist I saw for a second opinion. Details: My general dentist recommended I go to NU Image for a gum recession consultation. NU Image said I needed gum graft surgery on 4 teeth and a frenectomy (severing the connective tissue between my lip and gum). I asked if there were any alternatives and they flatly said no. They said that I would be under conscious sedation and I'd need someone to drive me home. NU Image is in-network for my insurance. My out of pocket cost for surgery would be $2663. For the consultation, it was $100. I decided to go to a highly-rated out-of-network periodontist for a second opinion. He said that I needed gum graft surgery on just 2 teeth and did not mention the need for a frenectomy. I know that dentistry is sometimes a judgement call, but I tend to trust the dentists who suggest less treatment. Here's the kicker. He asked if I wanted conscious sedation or not. I was very surprised to learn that nearly all of his adult patients opt for local anesthesia only (and NU Image had not even told me that this was an option)! The second-opinion periodontist is out-of-network for my insurance. My out of pocket cost for surgery was $810. For the consultation, it was $26. Wow, so much cheaper than NU Image! And less pain! More details: The NU Image receptionist insisted that she couldn't submit to my insurance unless I gave them my SSN. I prefer to not unnecessarily share my SSN due to identity theft concerns, but after the receptionist got frustrated with me, I caved. Interestingly, the office where I got my second opinion had no trouble submitting to my insurance without my SSN. At NU Image I was called back to be seen over 30 minutes after my appointment time.

I had been a patient of hers several years ago and this is why I came back. I called on a Tuesday morning because my tooth pain was getting worse and worse. My regular dentist (who I should but won't name) kinda shrugged if off. He sent me on my way with a tube of Sensodyne. I was in luck that there was a cancellation and I went to Dr Bills office right away. It's a super convenient Cary location. All of her staff is super warm and caring. She even has a therapy dog on staff !!! She numbed me up really well and the procedure was painless. She and her assistant chat the entire time so that really keeps your mind off of what is going on in your mouth. I would so HIGHLY recommend Dr Bills and her staff. A root canal isn't really that bad.

I have spent the past month of my life in hell. It all started with a filling 2 months ago. That…read morefilling caused me such extreme cold sensitivity that it made me tear up drinking iced tea. Ice cream? Forget about it. The dentist said it was normal, it would go away. Fine, I would wait. Then I was waking up in the middle of the night with the worst pain I have ever experienced in that side of my face. Both the top and the bottom of my mouth. Dentist said I was grinding my teeth. Gave me a night guard. Night guard didn't work, dentist said I probably had a sinus infection because looking at the x-rays, my teeth were perfectly healthy. (I'm glad they looked healthy, they felt like they were about to explode but thanks for that.) I went to the doctor. Not a sinus infection. Dentist referred me to a TMJ specialist. Instead I looked on the internet and found Dr. Bills. Dr. Bills and her staff started off on the right foot by TALKING to me. Asking what was going on, explaining things that the dentist didn't bother explaining to me. Then she tapped on my teeth and sprayed water on them. The whole problem with my mouth? One tooth. The tooth that was filled 2 months prior. It would need a root canal. They didn't have any openings for 2 weeks, but since I was in pain for over a month, they made one. I don't like dentists. I especially don't like the idea of a root canal. I had never had one, I was scared to death. I told Dr. Bills that I would prefer to be put under. She disagreed, telling me it wasn't as bad as I thought and that it would cost extra and instead she could give me Valium for free (even though she thought I didn't even need that.) So I reluctantly agreed. She's the expert, right? So my parents took me in that day since I couldn't drive myself on the Valium. I was relaxed. High as a kite, really. I am not kidding ONE BIT when I say that I have had TEETH CLEANING that were more painful than Dr. Bills' ROOT CANAL. Just the tiniest prick from the needle (and really, it was the least painful needle prick I've ever felt) was the only thing I ever felt. I think I might have ever gone to sleep during part of the procedure. And thanks to the valium, I slept for 4 hours, woke up with the numbing effect worn off. The procedure was at 6:45 am, and I have not had any pain killers since. Around lunch time I ate ice cream. I nearly cried. Not in pain, though. Quite the opposite. Dr. Bills is the real deal, y'all.
