I got a free inspection + quote from Tar Heel Basement Systems and they were super pushy and rude. Salesman would not take no for an answer, and they tried all kinds of slimy tactics to close the deal. "Sign today to get an additional x% discount" "My boss won't like this but...." "Oh oops I forgot to add this one $10,000 piece to your invoice, the price we've been discussing for 1/2 hour is now 50% higher" "Well I guess I could give you the friends and family discount..." etc etc Every time I said no to their "absolute lowest price they can do," they came back with another "lowest price" with some kind of discount or deal that they "shouldn't do, but can make an exception for..." I've read online that they do excellent work, but all they wanted to talk about was their competitors. If I had a nickel for every time I heard about "the other guys," I could possibly afford their newest "absolute best price we can do." Not a fan. Just tell me the price, tell me what you do, and cut the gimmicks. read more

Very very responsive organization. After some of the rains I went into my crawl space and noted some standing water. I asked Tar Heel to come by and make a determination to mitigate the problem. Before Colin arrived, I had a good sense of what was needed. I had an issue with a basement problem in a former house, so I was prepared for any "oversell." Wow, this outfit is sleazy. Only call them if you enjoy being contacted repeatedly over the next six months, receiving a hard sales pitch. After looking around for an hour, they started pushing me hard to sign before they'd even delivered the estimate! Sign RIGHT NOW FOR A 10% DISCOUNT. Who in the world drops $25k on the spot without getting at least one competitive bid? And they kept calling about that 10% discount, and kept calling, only now they dropped the "only good for one hour" scam. Months later, they're still calling despite my asking to never hear from them again. My floors were literally drooping from baseboards due to issues under my house. Tarheel Basement came out and gave me their Professional evaluation and Professional opinion on what was needed to fix the issues I was having. After contracting with them for all their recommendations, my floors are much worse than before they started. The commercial showing the floor being raised to meet the baseboard, in my case , was definitely not correct. I ask after the installation of their Intellijacks, when I saw no change, why there was no change. I was told " well that does not always happen ". He said do you want us to lift some more, to which I said yes of course. He said we can lift an additional 1/8". I still couldn't tell any difference. That seems like false advertising to me. We had a gentleman come by for an estimate. We had water on our foundation and our crawlspace smelled musty. There had been a case of a leaking pipe months ago. Nothing like getting a 15k estimate that included trenching out the inside, vapor barrier, dehumidifier, encapsulation and a sump pump. Said the sump pump is required. Um not by North Carolina Code its not. Found that out later. When I asked him what happens when the chipmunks come back in and chew through everything,. He said they won't. I asked how does he know. He said he just knows. Ok... Decided to put in a dehumidifier, seal off the vents ourselves and install a new improved moisture barrier ourselves. We've dug a ton of fill dirt away from the house. Where it had kept the foundation damp. The previous owners had fill dirt placed and hedges planted, too close to the foundation and sidewalks. What a mess. But here we are making a slope away from all sides of the house, saving a ton of money and getting in shape. read more

I recently had a maintenance visit for my system, during which a simple electrical problem was identified. The tech was not qualified to fully diagnose or fix the problem, but with some patience, we were able to get the problem resolved. In the end, they sent out an electrician to diagnose the problem and a supervisor to execute the repair. Because the process took longer than their standards, they compensated me by replacing some equipment that was no longer under warranty at no cost to me. read more

We bought an older home and discovered that a rim joist and multiple first floor beams had deteriorated, causing uneven flooring and structural changes to our first floor and basement. We contacted Tar Heel Basement Systems for help. Their project manager, John Dakonis met with us for a free consultation and signed us up to have the necessary work completed. Gary Hacker and Mathias Limas came to install an Intellijack Support System to lift and secure the flooring. They also repaired and replaced the rotten subflooring. These gentlemen were polite and concientious in their work, cleaning up each day so that we could access areas as needed. We needed helical piers to support our front porch. Salesman made decisions that architect said couldn't be done. The equipment brought in destroyed our manicured front lawn. They damaged our stone wall and retainer wall. Then busted our main water supply. Sand all thru our pipes. We had to replace kitchen faucet. Never offered any apology or restitution. Spoke to 3 different individuals who said they would call back and never did. Then Covid hit. A year later our front yard is still a mess. Be very careful of dealing with this company. read more

Even informing me when they were coming and going as well as sending photos of progress to me. I figured with all the positive reviews this would be the company to go with. Called and scheduled an appointment 3 weeks out as that was their earliest available. The night before the appointment, their tech called at 830PM to say that he couldn't make the time they had scheduled for the next day, but could be there slightly later in the day. Not a problem, rescheduling happens. The day of the appointment arrives and the tech is a no show. The following day I get a follow up survey about my experience, which surprisingly doesn't work either. So last chance...I call their customer service number to find out what happened. Manager will call you back in under 30 minutes. Guess who never called back. This company doesn't want you business, look elsewhere. read more

They had everything installed in less time than we anticipated and were even able to install the steel beam without having to move any duct work (a win in my book). We also appreciate all of of the help we received from Nate and Anthony to determine the best course of action and get everything scheduled. I recently had Tar Heel Basement Systems install their PolyRenewal foam under my driveway due to large gaps between the cement pad and the gravel. I wanted this product installed before any cracks developed in my cement driveway. They did an excellent job and all work was completed on the same day. I would have given them 5 stars, but I had to wait 2 1/2 months due to their backlog. The product/service is guaranteed for 5 yrs., which I really liked. I definitely would recommend them to anyone else who is having a problem with their driveway. I should also point out that the individual who came out to give me the free estimate arrived promptly and I only had to wait a few days before he came out.
