I visited Cane Creek State park in the Spring of 2010 for an overnight backpacking trip with my…read moredaughter. We hiked the Cane Creek Lake Trail six miles from the trailhead to the campground. We had the campground to ourselves on a Saturday night. The trail was fairly level with small dips into creeks. The swinging suspension bridges were fun to cross. The trail is well marked and signed and bridge numbers are used to identify locations in emergencies. Our trip coincided with a controlled burn and we enjoyed several trees still on fire and the contrast of the bright trail with the darker country side. Fortunately the burn extended only a mile or so into our hike. The lake features beaver and their structures. (Beware of "beaver fever" and treat all lake water carefully. There are kayak rentals for those wanting to tour the lake. naturalists also lead scheduled tours on the water or you can follow a self-guided water trail. The camping area was very nice and you can rent one of two trailers with decks if you want to try out camping or just don't want to encumber yourself. Star City is a just few miles away and the local stores provide groceries and other items you may have forgotten. Amateur radio operators should note there is a repeater in nearby Star City which can be linked to Little Rock using the 110.9 tone. Friends in Little Rock can reply using 146.940 with a similar 110.9 tone.

Rightly so... the mill is supposedly the "last standing structure" from the movie "Gone With The Wind." The gates opened at 8 AM. Entry was free. By the time we got there, a small group was already taking professional-like photos of their model. The landscaping was nicely manicured. Some of the plants and flowers or trees were labeled with little signs. My girls liked climbing up into the replica "water-powered grist mill." We didn't stay long as dogs were not allowed on the grounds. Our dog stayed in my Jeep while the air-conditioning was on since it was in the upper 80s already. Goes to show that construction of things made back then where built to last. My kids climbed it just the way I did when I was younger. The park, named after a for parks and recreation director named Julius Breckling (not listed on this Yelp page with his name), was huge - 39 acres huge. Lol. The cons were: - trash scattered sparingly on the ground - sus characters - some areas that were worn out/ run down - parking fees (see below) - no restrooms available - none that we saw Pros: + amphitheater + dogs on leashes okay + playground area + sculptures throughout + shaded sitting areas + splash pad (there were two of them, but only one was operable that day) + terraces + walking paths + water fountains + nearby pedestrian bridge + The Little Rock monument near the bridge Parking was $3 per hour for 8 hours maximum - enforced 24/7. The kiosk accepted coins or card payment only.

We're walking in and out of the bath houses and looking around the area even took some time to ask the gentleman who works for the national parks inside of the main building. Where is some things that we could see around the area? He of course, handed me a map and he said well the best thing we got is right outside the door. There's a fountain outside. For me I was hoping there would be more to that national park than just a few bath houses and a few fountains with hot water now I understand that that is amazing but it definitely under performs as a national park. We did take time to walk around the trails. We did take time to see the other areas, but there's really not much here other than a few hot water springs and some trails to walk on. Now don't let this take away from Hot Springs the city. It is a great city a lot of vibrant shopping in restaurants along Hot Springs. If you're going just to go shopping then you won't be disappointed. There was a lot to do as far as that but from the national Park perspective it was a letdown.

In fact it didn't interest my big kids all that much. There wasn't a "can we go back to the other park?" It was, "we're going back to the other one. Bye, Mom." Lol. Just a reminder parents, please teach your kids to pick up their trash right before you leave. It's good for them and helps us all enjoy the park much more. Plus the Arkansas River is just a few yards away.

It is named after Margaret Clark in appreciation of her longtime commitment to children and her interest in Riverfront Park. Her husband William E. Clark, has a wetlands park, down the street from this one by the Clinton Library, that is dedicated to him as well. It is very nice and welcoming. You know you have found the park when you see the twin sheep sculptures, Bliss and Glee, which are the work of Giuseppe Palumb. The park also has a hippopotamus sculpture named Roundbottom, that serves double duty as a bench. It is the work of Tim Cherry. The park opened in 2018 and still looks relatively new. It was designed for children ages 2-5 and is on artificial grass and mud free rubber surface. The park appears to have a nature theme and has a bank of traditional/toddler swings, rocks to climb, percussion instruments, bridges, slides, stand and spin, and a spinning cone climber. The slides are small and there is not much there as far as equipment goes, so I do not see the park entertaining kids much older than 5. It is a nice park though and well maintained. I have no issue with them catering to pre-school kids because sometimes the littles get over run over and pushed to the side by the big kids at other parks. This is not a destination park, but it is nice spot to visit if you are in the area with little kids and some time to kill.
